2 Welcome from USTA Texas Dan Barta USTA Texas President Welcome! It is my pleasure as President of USTA Texas to welcome you to the 2013 Community Development Workshop. Annually, the Section hosts this workshop to provide an opportunity for those involved in promoting tennis to come together to learn and share ideas and experiences related to making tennis available to people of all ages. Whether you are a CTA employee, tennis volunteer, or tennis professional, you are here because of your love of the game and the desire to provide others with the opportunity to learn and enjoy tennis. The Section staff has developed a fun filled and packed agenda for the weekend. Included in the weekend will be useful educational sessions, play opportunities, awards, and even some time to enjoy and explore the beautiful resort setting. Our special guest will be Roy Emerson someone who has been involved in tennis in multiple ways for nearly his entire life. I am sure he will enlighten us about his many tennis experiences. We will also honor those individuals who have been successful developing and executing great tennis programs. I hope to talk with you over the weekend. Sincerely, Dan Barta USTA Texas President Ken McAllister USTA Texas Executive Director Community Tennis Leaders, Welcome to the 2013 Texas Community Development Workshop. With its theme to Circle the Wagons, we add a dimension to the already premiere workshop in the country. That is the emphasis on utilizing the partnerships that exist in every Texas community. Hopefully you will leave this event with the techniques and tools to help grow the game of tennis in each of your communities. Staff and volunteers from all departments of USTA Texas have worked exceptionally hard to create the conference in which each of you will take part this weekend. It has been, without a doubt, a team effort from the beginning. So, we invite you not only to soak up the knowledge from the presenters but to also take the time to share your successes and challenges with the other attendees this weekend. We expect an atmosphere of fun and games and camaraderie because that is why we love this game that is healthy, instructive, and lasts a lifetime. You will delight in the ambiance of the Hyatt Lost Pines Resort and Spa as the perfect place to share what we love. Sincerely, Ken McAllister USTA Texas Executive Director
