1 LANARKSHIRE FEDERATION NEWS Thirsk May 16 th 2015, Hexham Update By Tom Corrie Last week s 1st & 2nd Federation winners, McCormick & Hughes, Uddingston & Dist are again back at the top, winning the federation by 23yds with a Busshaert/Gerald Delaney yearling Check cock, bred by Martin from his highly successful stock pigeons. Well done again lads! Mick McCormick (L) & Martin Hughes (R) again winning the 1st Lanarkshire federation The birds arrived at Thirsk, a traditional North Yorkshire Market town superbly positioned midway between the stunning North York Moors and the beautiful Yorkshire Dales. With a fresh north west wind to manage this week again and heavy showers on route throughout the day, the race team made the decision to cut the strings early and the 4,600 birds were on their way at 06 30am for the flight back into Central Scotland. Lightning does strike twice - well it has for one of the top lofts presently competing in the Lanarkshire, The only disappointment to the partnership was the loss of last week s 2nd Federation hen that they named Hurricane Aria named after Martin s Daughter. Mick is quick to praise Martin for his knowledge of how to race pigeons in the 21st Century. The race turned out to be a cracking race for the Lanarkshire with most reporting good returns for the 150 miles fly, with wind on their nose like last week s race, can only put the birds in race condition for the weeks ahead.
