2 ELECTRIC PYLON RACING Paul Below Slow Sticks March 202 The second race day of the season was much like the first, with gusts of up to 5 mph. There was some light mist falling as we were ge>ng set up for the Slow S cks, but it soon stopped and the morning was free of rain. Only the wind remained, under mostly cloudy skies. A8endance was down no doubt to the windy condi ons. We started with SlowS cks. The first heat ended Kregg, Mark, Paul, with John a DNS due to a disconnected ba8ery. John came storming back to win the second heat, with Rick W ge>ng second as Ma8 was dropped to third a er being called for a pylon cut. Dave had a disconnected aileron servo, crashed, and was out for the day. The third heat was the first one with all 4 planes finishing, and it ended Kregg, Rick, Mark, and Paul. John won the fourth heat with Mark coming in second. Ma8 and Paul DNF, as they had a high speed head-on collision just inside the north pylon. It might seem odd to see the phrase high speed used regarding Slow S cks, but Paul was going downwind pushed by a big gust of wind, and Ma8 had just go8en back up to full speed a er rounding the pylon. It was the loudest crash of the day, and both planes ended up with the motor buried in the damp ground of the runway. Paul s wing was in pieces. The fi h heat ended Kregg, John, Rick, Paul (4th with a backup S ck, he flew it very high to stay out of the way as it was not trimmed properly). The final heat was probably the most compe ve of the day, with all planes on the same lap, and a photo finish for second. April 202 Our April pylon race day was glorious. Light winds, mostly sunny, and moderate temperature. We had entries in the Slow S ck races, including 4 racing for the first me in 202 (Peter, Rick M, Bill, and Bud). We had heats, with our usual 4 planes per race and 4 heats per pilot. The first heat ended Rick W, Kregg, and Mark, with John C crashing. The second heat ended Peter, Dave, Bill, and Paul. Bill was having engine problems and Paul had a control horn come loose on an aileron. The rd heat was won by Ma8 with Rick M second, Bud had a mechanical problem and crashed, and John C couldn t get off the start line. The fourth heat ended Rick W, Kregg, Peter, and Dave. The fi h was Mark, John C, Paul, Bill. The sixth saw Ma8 win over Peter, Kregg, and Rick M. The seventh was also won by Ma8, over Rick W, John C, and Mark. The eighth heat was won by Dave, followed by Rick M, Bill, and Bud who had effected repairs in me to enter. Peter took the ninth heat followed by Paul and Bill, with Mark crashing. Ma8 took the tenth, followed by Kregg and Dave with Rick W crashing into the north pylon. The final race had only starters, won by Paul with Rick M second and Bud running out of ba8ery power before he got to the finish line. For the day, Ma8 had a perfect score of 6, Peter had second highest with, and Kregg and Rick W ed for third with SlowS ck Standings a#er Races: TOTAL Races Average Kregg Rick W John C Paul Mark L Dave Matt Peter.0 Rick M Bill Bud Bob
3 E-Snipes (Sneeps) The second ESnipe race had planes entered. Again, the wind caused excitement. During the strongest gusts, some pilots flew very high to avoid crashing. The wind was stronger up high (above the tree tops) meaning that the planes flew very slow upwind, but some mes discre on is the be8er part of valor. Heat A ended Ma8, Paul, with John crashing. He was able to make repairs. B was won by Rick, with Kregg finishing second, while Mark crashed in a spectacular way and was out for the day. 2A had all planes finish, ending Dave, Kregg, and Paul. 2B had Rick and Ma8 finishing, with John a DNS due to a balky motor. A was won by Rick, John was second, while Kregg got pushed into the runway by a gust of wind, and had the firewall pop off the fuselage. B ended Ma8, Paul, Dave, a er Dave had trouble at the start. 4A was won by Rick with Ma8 second, and John a DNF due to a wind aided crash at the north pylon. The final heat of the day featured Paul and Dave (Kregg a DNS as his motor had been damaged) in a rematch of their famous collision in February. This me, they both finished safely with Paul taking the honors. For the day, Rick had the high score, with 2 points. As with the Slow S cks, we will be using the 6 highest scores for each pilot for the final standings. April 202 ESnipe standings a#er races: TOTAL Races Average Rick W 4. Matt Dave 2. Kregg 22. Paul Mark 6 5. John C 4 4. Bud Peter.0 John E.0 Rick M Lee We had 2 Esnipes racing in April, including 5 racing for the first me in 202: Bud, Peter, John E, Rick M, and Lee. Due to the number of entries, we went to 4 planes per heat a er having per heat in February and March. Heat A was Ma8, Kregg, and Mark, with Peter DQ for cu>ng the north pylon twice. B ended Dave, Rick M, with the two Johns DQ for cu>ng the north pylon twice. C was Rick W, Bud, Paul (penalized for cu>ng one pylon), with Lee crashing into the blackberries. Heat 2A John E, Kregg, Peter, and Paul. 2B John C, Rick W, Mark, and Rick M. 2C Ma8, Dave, Bud, with Lee a DNS due to effec ng repairs. Heat A Rick W, Kregg, Mark, Lee. B Ma8, John E, Bud, with Rick M crashing. C was a very close race with John C, Paul, Dave, Peter all on the same lap with only a few feet separa ng them. Heat 4A Ma8, Dave, Rick M, Bud. 4B John C, Mark, Paul, with John E not finishing due to an overpropped and overhea ng motor. 4C Peter, Lee, Rick W (a er a penalty for cu>ng a pylon), and Kregg who had trouble ge>ng off the start line with a balky motor. For the day, Ma8 had a perfect score of 6, followed by Rick W with, and Dave and John C ed with 2 each.
4 March 0 Guttersnipe Carnage The winds were rather wild today, causing as much havoc for the guttersnipes as it did earlier for the electrics. Rick Walshes guttersnipe wasn t flying well enough to enter the races. That left John, Dave, Kregg, and Dale. But Dave s didn t fly well either in the first race with no ailerons, and he was out for the rest of the day. Kregg finished first, followed by Dale and John. The second race finished in the same order. In the third race, Dale was unable to start his engine. Kregg s snipe ground-looped on the downwind take off, but took off when it hit the upwind after turning 80 degrees crashing near the pilot station. The distraction caused John to loose his snipe at the first pylon, ending the race in multiple pieces. There was no 4ourth or fifth races, as there weren t enough snipes in flying condition. Kregg ended the day with points, Dale 5, and John. Guttersnipe Pylon Standings after races Kregg John Dale Dave Lee Rick M Rick W April 4 Guttersnipe Race A beautiful day and calm winds made for much easier guttersnipe racing. We had six pilots for the first time this season, which made for two -Snipe heats for the five races. Dale was back in form as he sed the whole way in heat A, finishing ahead of Rick M and Lee, who cut one pylon. Kregg cut a pylon in heat B, but still won as Rick M cut twice and John crashed on take-off. Rick W cut twice again in 2A, where the order was Kregg and then Rick M. Dale won 2B after John went into the trees with a lack of radio contact, and Lee came down early with a lack of rubber bands. Lee had heat A to himself after Rick W. crashed on take-off and Rick M s engine quit. Heat B was a close three-plane heat, with Kregg finishing ahead of Dale and John. With Rick W. now out for the day and time running short, we decided to have five-snipe heats for the last two races. Heat 4 quickly became a three way race as Rick M. and Lee dropped out. The finish was Kregg, Dale, and John. The fifth and final heat had all five Snipes flying, and there was some confusion with cut pylons. Kregg picked up the win, followed by Dale. However, Dale cut twice, so John finished second, followed by Rick M. and Lee. The final points for the day were Kregg with 5, Dale with, John, Lee, and Rick M. each had 6. Thanks to all the help watching pylons from Paul, Mark, Bud, and more. Obitsand Pieces Rick Walsh re-kitted his Slow Stick in a collision with the north pylon. John added detailing to his Guttersnipe wing in a collision with the trees.

6 Olympic Radio Control Association March 4, 202 Meeting Minutes President John Castleman called the meeting to order at 6:5 p.m. with 8 ORCA members. John asked Rick Magnuson for an update on signs that was discussed at February's meeting. Rick reported that several quotes were obtained for both the port-a-potty door and an entryway sign. The port-a-potty sign cost is reasonable, however, the entryway sign is prohibited. A straw man entryway sign was shown. Several good comments about the sign and content were given. A sign committee will finalize the signage. Committee members are Bob Kampmann, Peter Havens and Rick Magnuson. After finalization of the entryway sign, the club will ask member Jack Mathiesen to paint the sign. Flying hours were reviewed. For glow and gas powered aircraft, flying times are 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., Monday through Saturday and a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Sundays. Electric powered aircraft hours are 8:00 a.m. until dusk each day. The club has received the 202 AMA charter and certificate of insurance. Next month's meeting will be our annual meeting/swap meet. It will be held at the Hostmark Community Center on April th. Kregg Hoover gave a report on the February pylon races. Seems the wind played havoc with each type of race. There were 8 slow sticks racing and mid-airing. Seven E snipes started, but the only out of the regular 5 heats were completed. The gutter snipes had problems with down wind takeoffs. It was reported by Kregg that John Castleman made an "entertaining move." Bob Kampmann made the good safety suggestion that hard hats be wore during the pylon races. He said that hard hats are around $ at The Home Depot. The old green lawn motor has been retired. A new 42 inch Troy-Bilt riding mower has been purchased. Any useable parts will be removed from the green mower. The green mower battery while in excellent condition does not fix in the red mower. John said that a person has expressed interest in the old green mower. We hope to get $50 for it because of the good battery in it. John Castleman paid honor to several members for their service to the club. Mark Linenbroker, for updating the club's web site, Dale Olson, for serving for terms as president, Kregg Hoover, for editing the club newsletter, Rick Magnuson, for being the secretary/treasurer, and Rick Walsh (who could not attend the meeting), for maintaining the field. Each person received a Certification of Appreciation and a small trophy containing $0 in "john dollars." Peter Havens also received a trophy with 'john dollars" for his work with the North Kitsap Trails Association. Dale Olson made a motion to have Mark Linenbroker official ORCA web master. In typical fashion, the motion was seconded and in no time voted for approval. Skip Anderson addressed the members with information he obtained from AMA on flying sites. A large document has much information on how to locate a suitable site, how to obtain a site, how to develop a site, how to retain a site and not lose the site. Skip passed along to the club some volunteer applications for the AMA Flying Assistance Program. Peter Havens showed off his newly built electric Telemaster. Peter did a great job in constructing the Telemaster and posted the build on RCGroups.com. Peter said that the maiden flight went great. Mark Linenbroker showed his new charging system where he can charge five batteries ( different sizes) independently off of one 50 watt power supply. Mark also gave several valuable tips on lipo battery care. The Quarter Draw didn't get a winner, as the chosen member was not present. So the quarter pot carries over to the next meeting. The meeting was adjourned. :55p.m. Richard Pearsall was the winner of the Quarter Draw at the last club meeting. He donated the $8.00 back to the club. This meeting also featured the annual Swap Meet.
