Introduction CONGRATULATIONS ON PURCHASING YOUR NEW DURASPA S380. RotoSpa LTD is a family run, UK owned hot tub manufacturers. We have taken every care in designing, building and testing your RotoSpa here, in the UK to ensure that it operates effectively and offers many satisfying years of service. This guide will explain everything you need to know about the set up and continual use of your RotoSpa. In order to obtain maximum benefit from your RotoSpa we recommend that you read and follow the information contained in this guide. We aim to answer any questions you may have within this information booklet but appreciate there may be some things you can t find an answer to, in that case please call or us and we will help as soon as we can. Telephone Number; ; office@rotospa.co.uk 1
Electrical Supply All of the hot tubs in the RotoSpa range are 13amp plug and play compatible meaning they can be connected to the electrical supply via a UK 3 pin plug. As a minimum requirement your RotoSpa will need to be connected via a 3 pin plug to an IP rated, waterproof switched socket outlet (see fig 1) positioned 2-3 meters away. You should ensure the electrical supply is safe and up to current IET regulations. The circuit must be RCD protected having characteristics specified in regulation of the IET wiring regulations. The RotoSpa will be supplied with a 3 meter 3 core flex cable with a male commando plug attached. Please note if your socket is positioned too far away from the RotoSpa the cable may not reach. To connect your RotoSpa to an IP Rated, waterproof UK 3 pin socket you will require a conversion cable (see fig 2 below). You can purchase these directly from Sutton Pools and Spas. For ultimate safety Sutton Pools and Spas recommends the RotoSpa is permanently connected (hard wired) to a single phase 240v RCD protected consumer unit directly to an IP rated waterproof rotary isolator. We have our own NICEIC registered electricians and can provide you with a quotation to carry out any electrical works required. Fig 1. Fig 2. Fig 3. 2
Getting Started Initial set up. When you first get your RotoSpa, your supplier may commission it for you and talk you through everything, such as the touchpad features, chemical usage and general maintenance tips. However if you have opted for kerbside delivery please follow the subsequent steps on initial set up or when filling your RotoSpa up, after a water change or taking out of winterization. STEP 1; when you get your RotoSpa you will need to begin by filling it with water to the specified level as shown to the right, minimum fill level is no lower than the second slot down from the top. To fill your DuraSpa you will need a water supply and a hosepipe. Before inserting your hosepipe into your RotoSpa please allow water to flow through freely removing all contaminants from within the hosepipe, once done you can then insert the end of the hosepipe into the filter housing and allow to fill, this will prevent any air locks forming in the pipework. Depending on your water pressure this can take 2+ hours. STEP 2; once filled, you can then plug your DuraSpa in so it can heat up. The default temperature is set at 37 deg, to adjust the temperature press and hold the up button, this will raise the temperature. To reduce the temperature press and hold the down button. STEP 3; once powered up the RotoSpa will enter auto mode and heat to the set temperature. It takes approximately 8-12 hours to heat from cold depending on ambient temperature. The heat, pump and auto lights should all be on. STEP 4; before you can use your DuraSpa you will need to add some chemicals to get the water balanced. Once filled and you have set your desired temperature you will need to check the ph level of the water. The level of Ph. will need to be at 7.2 so your sanitiser can work to its optimum ability. Test Strip Users- Using the test strips supplied. Dip one into the water and compare to the diagram on the back of the pack. Scuba Digital Tester- switch on using the ON/OFF key. Swirl the instrument several times under the water allowing the chamber to completely fill with water. Tightly close the lid and press the ZERO/TEST key, allow to show on the display. Press the mode key until Ph is displayed along the bottom of the display screen. Remove the lid and add a phenol red tablet to the chamber of water, using the crushing rod break the tablet up until it is fully dissolved, close the lid and swirl instrument for approx. 15 seconds, keep the instrument still for 15 seconds then press the ZERO/TEST key and await the final result. It may state high or low depending on the levels. To increase the Ph., add 10.5 grams of Ph. + to some water in a plastic container and mix, slowly add the solution to your RotoSpa. Ensure the jets are on so the ph.+ solution is evenly distributed through the entire volume of water. After 5 minutes turn the jets off and use the test strips to check the ph. level, continue until 7.2 is achieved. To lower your ph. follow the same instructions using ph. -. It is vitally important that the ph. is kept at the correct level to ensure the sanitizer can work efficiently. Always follow each brands individual instructions. Step 5; while the water is still cold and your ph. level is correct you will then need to introduce some chlorine shock or nonchlorine shock to the water, this is only to be done when you are refilling your DuraSpa and once a week if needed. For Chlorine users add 2 grams of Chlorine Shock to a plastic container with a sample of your spa water, mix and add to the RotoSpa slowly, again leave jets on and allow solution to distribute throughout the water. It is advised that you let your chlorine shock run at 5ppm to completely eliminate any contaminants within your water (allow levels to drop between 2-3ppm before using your RotoSpa). 3
For Bromine users add 3 grams of non-chlorine shock to a plastic container with a sample of your spa water, mix well and add to your RotoSpa, allow jets to run for a few minutes so solution can distribute evenly. It is advised that you run your Bromine level at 8ppm to completely eliminate and contaminants within your water (allow to drop to 4-6ppm before using your RotoSpa). We also advise this is done once a week to keep the water well sanitized. Always follow each brands individual instructions. Step 6; once the spa has reached its set temperature you will now need to ensure there is a sufficient level of free Chlorine or Bromine. Test Strip Users- Dip one into the water and compare to the back of the bottle. Scuba Digital Tester- Take a new sample of water and replace the lid, press the ZERO/TEST Key until shows on the display. Using the same method as with the Ph test, use the DPD 1 tablets, crush 1 and allow to fully dissolve in the water, replace the cap tightly and press the MODE key until Chl appears along the bottom of the display. Swirl the instrument for 15 seconds and allow to stand for 15 seconds. Press the TEST key and await your reading. For Bromine users multiply the chl result by 2.2 and this will give you the reading for free Bromine If the reading is lower than the advised add 2 gram of Chlorine and allow jets to run, continue until 2-3ppm has been achieved. For Bromine add 3 grams and let the jets run for a few minutes, check and repeat until 4-6ppm has been achieved. See table below which indicates the required level of each sanitiser, if you have chosen to use tablets it is advised to reach the required level using granules and then maintain with tablets. As with the shock it is advised you dissolve the granules in a plastic container first. Always use a sample of your spa water. Always follow each brands individual instructions. Sanitiser Chlorine Bromine PPM 2-3 ppm 4-6 ppm To keep your RotoSpa thermal cover in the best condition, leave off your DuraSpa for 2 hours after adding chemicals to your water. Each day and before using your RotoSpa, you will need to check the water balance is at the correct levels, so please revert back to steps 4 and 6 to get the water back to the safe levels. If you find your ph levels keep bouncing contact your supplier as you will need to carry out an Alkalinity test. If you are unable/find it difficult to use the test strips and feel the readings aren t accurate please contact RotoSpa about purchasing a Scuba Digital Tester. The results are more accurate due to people s variation in seeing colour. 4
USING YOUR HOT TUB S CONTROL PANEL AND FEATURES. Please see below for information on how to use your control panel and any extra features fitted on your DuraSpa. Your DuraSpa is fitted with a 2 speed pump as standard which means you will be able to alter the strength of the jets, to put the pump into manual mode low speed, press the pump button once, push a second time to put the pump into manual mode high speed. To ensure your RotoSpa retains its temperature please return to auto mode when not in use. Your DuraSpa comes with a Mulitcolour LED Light. To operate the LED light push the up button once, this will turn it on, pressing the up button 3 times will put the light into a slow cycle throughout the colours, push it a fourth time will put it into a fast cycle, 5 pushes turns the light off. Pushing the down button will allowing you to choose one set colour (light must be on for this to work). Fitted to the topside of your DuraSpa are 2 grey dials. These are called Venturi air controls and will introduce a small amount of air into the water when flowing through the jets, increasing the pressure and massage effect. To operate simply twist the dial into the on position. Ensure these are turned off when not in use as it the air will increase ph. levels and will add cold air into the water increasing running costs. Variable speed air blower- The air blower introduces an alternative feel of massage. The small pepper pot like jets allow millions of bubbles to gently massage you and fellow bathers, you can alter the speed of the blower too. To turn the blower on push the button as shown to the left once, this will show a red light and be on full. Press twice and the light should change to orange, at this point if you use the up and down keys you will be able to adjust the speed of the air. Push the blower button a third time and this will put it in to oscillating mode- Green Light To turn the blower off you will need to push the air button a fourth time. 5
Maintenance Hot Tubs are renowned for their health benefits and if kept well maintained they will last for years. Please see below for RotoSpa s recommended maintenance tips in order to keep you safe and to keep your tub of top condition. We advise an annual service of your RotoSpa by one of our engineers to keep your DuraSpa in as new condition and to check for any wear and tear of components and/or pipework. A deep clean of the pipework to remove any build-up of biofilm within is also strongly recommended. Please call us for further information. Filters Filters are used to catch contaminants and debris in the water and keep it clear of any microscopic particles that can cloud your water. Filters should be cleaned once a week by using your hose pipe to clean between the pleats, the most effective way of doing this is by using a high pressure flow and separating each pleat as you clean. You will need to wait for the filter to dry before inserting back into the RotoSpa. For this reason, we advise purchasing a spare filter for when the other is being cleaned. It is also recommended that filters are soaked in a filter cleaning solution (ensure they are rinsed afterwards) once a month for a deep clean. If kept clean your filters should last between months. Please refer to page 8 for information on how to change your filter. All filters and Chemicals are available at Sutton Pools and Spas, please call to order. Your re order number is FILT0021. Water balance and Chemical Dosing Keeping your water well balanced is crucial to ensuring all of the components in your RotoSpa do not become victim to corrosion, or otherwise. It is also the best way to ensure the water is clean and pleasant for bathers. Please revert to pages 3 and 4 for water balancing guide. PH Keeping the ph. balance correct will not only make sure your sanitiser can work effectively but will reduce irritation to the skin. A high or Low ph. level can also cause corrosion or scale build-up of your RotoSpas electrical components which in turn is costly to replace. As soon as you enter the water any deodorant/make-up/lotions etc. will change the waters ph. levels so it is important to shower prior to getting in your hot tub and to not wash your swimwear in any detergent as traces will always remain within the fabric. Any detergent introduced into the water will cause foaming. Sanitiser Chlorine and Bromine are the most common forms of sanitiser used to kill any bacteria within the water. To keep the water clean and safe you will need to ensure a constant level of this sanitiser (see table on page 4). Levels that are kept too high will again cause corrosion over time and can discolour the hot tubs shell, a constant low level of sanitiser will render the water unsanitary and will be unpleasant to the bather. Once a week we advise you shock your water using a chlorine or non-chlorine shock (dependant on your chosen sanitiser) to kill any bacteria that is within the pipework. See page 3 Step 5 for dosing. Always follow individual brands instructions. Additional Chemicals Water balance can seem like a mine field especially when you are in an area with very hard/soft water and need to consider alkalinity/calcium reducer/increaser etc. There are a lot of chemicals on the market for hot tubs which again can become confusing, algaecide, flocculants, shimmer, oxidiser, anti-foam etc. Whilst you may never need these at any point it is important you know which chemical is to be used for which problem. 6
Murky and cloudy water can just mean you need a filter change; it can also be because the particles in the water are too small for the filter to catch so using a flocculent will combine these particles together thus ensuring they are caught up in the filter (multifunction sanitiser tablets will have this built in). It could be as a result of there being too much combined chlorine in the water, this is when the chlorine/bromine particles have combined with bacteria particles. It is recommended a drain down and refill of your spa water. If you have a Scuba digital tester you can test the combined chlorine using the DPD 3 tablets. It may also be because your ph. is too high which means your sanitiser is not working efficiently. Too much of your chosen sanitiser can again cause this issue. If you find your test strips are reading there is no or very low levels of sanitiser but you know there is plenty in the water it is likely the sanitiser is bleaching out the test strips giving you a negative result. It is worth bringing a fresh sample of your water into us so we can test it for you. Green water indicates an algae build up, before it gets too serious using an algaecide will rid you of this issue or an algae inhibitor will prevent it from happening at all, it is advised to use and algae inhibitor only if you find you are having these problems in the first place. Don t use chemicals unnecessarily. If your water begins to smell at any point it is advised to shock it immediately unless you have had the water in the RotoSpa for a prolonged amount of time, at which point it is advised you drain down the spa and refill with fresh. An unpleasant smell can come from water that has been sat without circulation for a long period of time or water that has not been sanitised in a while, it is important to always have your RotoSpa in auto mode so the water can flow and filtrate. Settlement of sediment at the bottom of your RotoSpa can indicate a high calcium level in your water, mainly found in hard water areas. For this you can use a pre-filter attachment for your hosepipe which will filter the water before it enters your RotoSpa. This will reduce the amount of calcium deposited within the hot tub. Very much like washing machines and kettles your RotoSpa s components (pump/heater/pipes etc.) can be at risk of calcium build up and can seriously reduce its performance. It is important to enquire about the right chemicals for your water supply. If you appear to have any problems with your water not listed above, please call us and we will help you get the right advice to sort the problem. Water Change/drain down If kept clean and well balanced your water can last up to 4 months before needing to be changed. To drain the water, you will need to attach a hose to the drain valve, this is located on the bottom edge of the RotoSpa (see page 8), you will then need to place the end of the hose in the area you wish the water to drain to. Please note your water from your RotoSpa is dangerous to the environment and wildlife, do not allow water to drain anywhere but into a manmade drain. To release the flow of water, twist the body of the drain valve anti clockwise as much as it will allow and pull towards you. Once drained you can then refill with fresh water by inserting the hosepipe into the filter housing. It is important it is done this way to prevent any air locks forming within the pipework. If you wish to leave your RotoSpa drained for a prolonged amount of time i.e. winter or of you are going on holiday, it is important you make sure there is as little water left in the pipework, pump and heater as possible, if too much water is left inside and it freezes it can cause damage to said components and void warranty. Alternatively, you can purchase a submersible pump which will reduce the time it takes to empty your hot tub, these are available at Sutton Pools and Spas. Any water left within the RotoSpa will become stagnant when left for a prolonged period of time so it is important when you choose to refill your hot tub you add some shock to the water allow to work for 24 hours, drain the water and then fill as you normally would. To ensure all water is removed from the pipework and components we recommend one of our fully qualified RotoSpa engineers decommissions your spa through our winterisation service package. Please call for further information. General cleaning of your hot tub Every now and again you may find the surface of your RotoSpa needs a clean, you can purchase a specially formulated solution from Sutton Pools and Spas which will work effectively without jeopardising the quality of the shell. 7
Servicing your hot tub As previously mentioned annual servicing of your RotoSpa will reduce the risk of breakdowns and unnecessary costs for emergency call outs. We have a few differing service packages available depending on your needs. They range from winter shutdown to a full inspection of pipework, glue joints, performance ratings on your pump, heater and control box. Please call for pricing. 8

Health and Safety Hot Tubs can be a very enjoyable way to spend time and make memories with friends and family when used in a responsible manner. Please read through these health and safety notes to ensure you and your guests are kept safe. NEVER use a hot tub when under the influence of alcohol or drugs ALWAYS use the hot tub with the cover fully removed. ALWAYS follow the instructions on the back of your chemicals. ALWAYS be cautious when getting in, or out of, a hot tub, do so with care and do not run, to avoid slips, trips and falls. DO NOT put your head underwater in a hot tub, or allow another bather to do so. The high water temperature can potentially lead to loss of consciousness. DO NOT use a hot tub with a water temperature higher than 40ºC. NEVER allow children below the age of 4 years old to use a hot tub. DO NOT use glass in or around the spa as broken glass cannot be seen in a body of water. In the event of broken glass entering the hot tub, evacuate the tub and drain down, call your supplier in order to ascertain what to do next. ALWAYS Keep all chemicals supplied in the container, out of reach of children and kept dry. DO NOT put chemicals into the water when other people are in the spa. DO NOT MIX THE CHEMICALS It is recommended to bathe with at least one other person in a hot tub, in the event that if one person gets into any difficulty, the other can assist or raise the alarm. The elderly or infirm should not be left alone in a hot tub, and children should never be allowed to use a hot tub without constant adult supervision. 10
Troubleshooting Please see below for possible problems that may occur during your ownership of a RotoSpa Hot Tub. For anything not listed please revert to your touchpad user guide supplied with your Hot Tub or call our office for further assistance. Please note- if an error code appears on your touchpad the first thing you should try is a reset, to reset your spa push the up, down and pump button simultaneously, if the error code persists please contact your supplier. Symptom Cause Solution Error 6 showing on your control pad display. Possible air lock, blockage, too many jets are closed, filter is dirty Initially you will need to allow the temperature of your water to cool below 38 deg c then you will need to reset the hot tub by pushing the up, down and pump buttons simultaneously. If the error code reappears please try one of the following; Are all the jets in the open position? Open them by twisting the jet faces. Are your filters clean or need changing? Have you recently refilled your hot tub? If so did you fill through the filter housing? If not, please call your supplier. Is the water level correct? Please see page 8 and top up if needed. After each check please reset your RotoSpa. If the error code persists, please contact your supplier. H2O error message is displaying on the control panel display. H2O refers to no water being detected in the heater. Causes of this include; Air lock Fault with optical sensor Water is too pure so the optical sensor cannot see the water Optical sensor may be obstructed due to hard water issue If you have just refilled your hot tub chances are the water is too pure contact your supplier for further information. Again if you have just refilled your hot tub it may be that an air lock has developed- call your supplier 11
Pump has become Laboured/Noisier than normal Hot Tub is making a sucking sound or Surging You re going to be away from your hot tub for an extended amount of time Leak Reduced flow through jets There may be a fault with the pump or there is not enough water in the hot tub. Water level is too low. Go to page 3. n/a Loose unions, burst pipes, seal/glue joint failure Blockage, Reduced power through pump, Jets slightly closed, Air control is off. Check that the water levels are correct (see page8) Have you recently moved the location of the hot tub? The pump on our Hot Tubs can appear noisier if the tub itself is enclosed (in a cabin/log house) or when put on decking as the sound reverberates in the hollow spaces under decking. If neither of these apply to you, please call your supplier in order to ascertain possible causes and solution. In this instance it is ideal for someone else to attend to the hot tub, keeping the chemical levels correct or you can choose to drain the hot tub down completely and refill upon your return. Please see page 7 for full instruction. Please call you supplier. Put all jets into Open position. If problem persists please call your supplier. 12
