LHP Carlos Rodón, who is looking for his fi rst win since 8/27 at Yankee Stadium, will take the mound for the White Sox. Chicago opened the series by being swept in Friday's split DH. The Sox are currently in fourth place in the American League Central, 2.0 games behind third-place Detroit (64-96). The White Sox went 2-4 on their fi nal homestand of the season, losing two of three to both the Cubs and Cleveland they fi nished with a record at Guaranteed Rate Field. The White Sox went 4-5 on their last trip at the Indians (1-2), Baltimore (2-1) and Kansas City (1-2). TONIGHT'S STORYLINES The White Sox need to win one of their fi nal two games to avoid the fourth 100-loss season in franchise history. The Sox are (.652) on the road since 8/3, the seventhbest mark in MLB pitchers own a 3.88 ERA (96 ER/222.2 IP) and.237 opp. average with 17 quality starts during that span. Chicago has won six of the last 11 games vs. Minnesota after losing fi ve of the fi rst six to start the season series. The Sox are hitting.218/.279/.344 with 22 homers and 69 runs scored (3.1 R/G) in the last 22 games have left 150 runners on base and own a.228 RISP mark (34-149) during that span. Carlos Rodón is 0-4 with a 6.84 ERA (20 ER/26.1 IP),.311 opp. average, 1.82 WHIP, fi ve home runs allowed and 15 walks over his last fi ve starts (one quality start). YESTERDAY'S DOUBLEHEADER RECAP Minnesota swept yesterday's doubleheader at Target Field, defeating Chicago 2-1 in the opener and 12-4 in the nightcap. In Game 1, José Berríos and two relievers limited the Sox to four singles with 12 strikeouts. Willians Astudillo snapped a 1-1 tie with a game-winning sacrifi ce fl y in the sixth Leury García drove in the White Sox only run with a RBI single in the third. Reynaldo López suffered the loss in his fi nal start despite allowing two runs on four hits with fi ve walks over 6.0 IP. In Game 2, the Twins scored three times in the fi rst, four times in the second and three times in the third en route to a 10-1 lead. Lucas Giolito was charged with the loss in his 2018 fi nale after surrendering seven runs on fi ve hits with four walks in 1.1 IP. Kevan Smith and José Rondón each hit solo home runs. The White Sox combined for 12 hits (eight singles), 19 strikeouts and went 2-14 with RISP in the twinbill. DOUBLEHEADER DYNAMICS The White Sox yesterday were swept in a doubleheader for the first time time since 7/1/14 vs. the Angels the last time they were swept in a road DH was 5/7/12 at Cleveland. The last time Minnesota swept Chicago in a DH was 8/9/13 at Guaranteed Rate Field yesterday also marked the fi rst time the Twins swept the Sox in a DH in Minneapolis since 9/21/80. TWEAK THE STREAK Reynaldo López suffered the loss last night despite surrendering two runs on four hits in 6.0 IP he allowed one run or less and fi ve hits or less in 6.0-plus IP in each of his previous fi ve GS. He is just the thrid Sox pitcher to allow two runs or less and fi ve hits or less over 6.0-plus IP in six consecutive starts, joining Carlos Rodón (six; 7/5-8/10/18) and Joe Horlen (six; 5/7-29/68). López and Rodón are tied for the third-longest such streak in MLB in 2018, trailing Justin Verlander (11) and Max Scherzer (8). RODÓN'S ROLLERCOASTER Carlos Rodón is 0-4 with a 6.84 ERA (20 ER/26.1 IP),.311 opponents average, 1.82 WHIP, 17 strikeouts, fi ve home runs allowed and 15 walks over his last fi ve starts since 9/1. By comparison, he made nine straight quality starts while allowing fi ve hits or less from 7/5-8/27, the longest such streak by a White Sox pitcher since at least 1908 (Baseball Reference). MINNESOTA The Twins lead the season series, 10-7 the Sox are 3-5 at Target Field and went 4-5 at Guaranteed Rate Field. Game 1 yesterday marked the fi nal makeup game from three snow postponements at Target Field from 4/ The White Sox are batting.241/.300/.395 with 19 home runs, own a 4.09 ERA (69 ER/152.0 IP) with nine quality starts and have been outscored, 78-69, this season. The Sox are 8-13 in the last 21 games at Target Field. Chicago is in the last 18 season matchups ( ). The White Sox trail in the all-time series, they are at home ( at Guaranteed Rate Field) and on the road (39-45 at Target Field). He missed four games from 8/20-23 due to lightheadedness. LACK OF CENTRAL COMMAND Chicago is against the American League Central in 2018, going at Guaranteed Rate Field and on the road. The White Sox will record a losing record vs. the AL Central for the sixth consecutive season. The Sox have lost 10 of the last 13 overall but won 13 of 26. Chicago is 8-7 over the last 15road games vs. the division. The White Sox are vs. the AL Central since 2009, posting a losing record every season except 2012 (37-36). (DIS)COMFORT OF HOME The White Sox lost nine of their last 11 games at Guaranteed Rate Field and fi nished (.370) at home this season, the second-worst mark in MLB ahead of Baltimore (27-50,.351). This season marks the Sox fourth-worst home record in club history, ahead of 1948 (27-48), 1932 (28-49) and 1970 (31-53). Chicago will fi nish with a sub-.500 record at home for the fi fth time in the last six seasons (45-36 in 2016). POWER AND SPEED Tim Anderson (20 HR/26 SB) is the first White Sox shortstop to record a 20-HR/20-SB season he is four steals shy of joining Alex Ríos (2010) and Tommie Agee (1966) as the only Sox to post 20 homers and 30 steals in one season. Anderson, Boston's Mookie Betts, Cleveland's José Ramírez and Colorado's Trevor Story are the only players in MLB with at least 20 home runs and 25 stolen bases this season. PALKA POWER Daniel Palka is tied with Zeke Bonura (1934) for third place in White Sox single-season history among rookies with 27 home runs in 2018 he is eight shy of Ron Kittle (35 in 1983) for second the 27 homers are the most by a Sox left-handed rookie. He ranks among MLB rookie leaders in homers (T1st, 27), RBI (3rd, 67), total bases (7th, 198) and extra-base hits (8th, 44). Palka is trying to become the fi rst White Sox rookie to lead all MLB rookies in home runs since José Abreu (36) in His four pinch-hit HRs are the most in a season in Sox history. YOUNG AND PRODUCTIVE Yoán Moncada needs one double to become the fi fth player in White Sox history, age 23 or younger, to record 30-plus doubles, 15-plus home runs and 60-plus RBI in a single season. He would join Chet Lemon (1977), Frank Thomas (1991), Paul Konerko (1999) and Carlos Lee (1999) also would be the fi rst Sox, 23 or younger, with a 30+ 2B/15+ HR/60+ RBI/10+ SB season. GRAB SOME BENCH Chicago has struck out 1,570 times in 2018, the most in MLB this season, the most in a single season in franchise history and the second-most in a season in MLB history. Milwaukee owns the single-season mark with 1,571 in Yoán Moncada leads MLB with 215 strikeouts, fi ve more than the Yankees' Giancarlo Stanton (210) he is seven shy of tying Adam Dunn (222 in 2012) for the club record. QUALITY AND QUANTITY Chicago has made 1,389 QS since 2003, the second-most in MLB behind the Mets (1,390) during that span, and 58 more than Oakland (1,331), the next-closest American League team. The Sox rank third in the AL with 74 quality starts in 2018 RHPs Reynaldo López and James Shields are tied for seventh in the AL with 19 quality starts this season.
