Definition: Doing what needs to be done even if you don't want to do it, because you see the greater goal. Example: Matt really wants to make the club soccer team in his town. Tryouts are coming up in 3 weeks and the coaches look for players with quick foot work and good ball control. Matt is determined to gain more speed and coordination in time for the tryout because he so badly wants to be on the team. He decides that every day until tryouts he is going to make time to go outside and practice his dribbling & foot work skills. Some mornings Matt wakes up and would rather sleep in, but when he thinks about the sense of accomplishment he will feel when he gets selected for the club team, he chooses to be disciplined and practices even when he doesn t feel like it Whoever loves discipline loves knowledge, but whoever hates correction is stupid. - Proverbs 12:1
How will you practice being disciplined this week? Soccer Skills Challenge: (3 times this week) 1. 1v1 Moves (30 each): Matthews, The Lunge, Chop, Scissors 1. Turns (30 each): Cruyff, Step-over-turn, Inside of Foot, Outside of Foot Fitness Drills Challenge: (2 times each, 3 times this week) 1-Minute Drills 1. Squats 2. Squat Jumps 3. Forward Lunges 4. Backward Lunges Healthy Eating Challenge: Replace a sugary dessert for some fruit with yogurt or peanut butter, at least once this week.
Definition: Being fair and truthful with your words and actions. Example: Katie s coach gives her team an opportunity to get better outside of practice by doing drills at home. He gives the girls a sheet of drills to complete each afternoon after school, and have their parents sign saying they completed the drills. Katie completely forgets to do the drills and overhears her teammates talking about the drills the day that the paper is due. Frantic, she considers faking her parents signature to say that she has done the drills. She knows in her heart that would be wrong, so she decides to be HONEST. When it comes time to turn in the papers, she tells her coach the truth, that she forgot about the drills. Her coach honored Katie s HONESTY by giving her another week to complete the drills, and this time Katie didn't forget to do them!! The Lord detests lying lips, but He delights in people who are trustworthy and honest. - Proverbs 12:22
How will you practice Honesty this week? Soccer Skills Challenge: (3 times this week) 1. Side to Side Step-On (30) 2. Side to Side Front Roll (30) 3. Pull Instep Push (30) Fitness Drills Challenge: (2 times each, 3 times this week) 1-Minute Drills 1. Ball Hops (jump over ball) 2. Toe Taps 3. Jump Side to Side both feet 4. Jump Side to Side Right Only 5. Jump Side to Side Left Only Healthy Eating Challenge: Drink water or milk instead of soda or sugary drinks at every meal this week.
Definition: Having control over your emotions, feelings, desires, and actions Example: Michael s team was in the middle of playing against their biggest rival and the game was tied 0 to 0 as the second half started. As the game continued it grew more intense, from shoving, name calling, to sliding tackles. The referee had already given 3 yellow cards for players misconduct. Michael could see all the bad attitudes both teams had and as he was passed the ball in the opponents goal box he was shoved from behind and fell to the ground. At this point Michael had 2 decisions, get up and shove the player back for knocking him to the ground or choose to have SELF-CONTROL by getting up and ready for his penalty kick. As he decided he got up, brushed himself off and calmly took the ball from the referee and prepared for his penalty kick. He took a deep breath, kicked, and SCORED! Michaels team won that game 1 to 0. Because he chose SELF-CONTROL he set an example for the rest of his team, the other team, and everyone watching that the best players keep their cool and display SELF-CONTROL. Like a city whose walls are broken through is a person who lacks self-control. - Proverbs 25:28
How will you practice Self-Control this week? Soccer Skills Challenge: (3 times this week) 1. 1-Touch Speed Passing (30) 2. 2-Touch Speed Passing inside/inside (30) 3. 2-Touch Speed Passing outside/inside (30) Fitness Drills Challenge: (2 times each, 3 times this week) 1-Minute Drills 1. Mountain Climbers 2. Line Hops (forward, side to side, 1-foot) 3. Lunge Hops Healthy Eating Challenge: Eat a fruit or vegetable at every meal this week.
Definition: The ability to remain calm without complaining for long periods of time or during difficult trials. Example: Soccer was Tuckers favorite sport. She practiced any free second she could. She has been practicing for months before tryouts for the nationally ranked club team in her town. She made the team last year but, didn't get to play much. While she was upset about the play time her mom gave her some very good advice, the best thing you can do for you and your team is be PATIENT and work hard during the off season. Taking her moms advice, once off season started she began training for tryouts, she ran, played pick up games, and worked with a private coach. While there were days that she didn't want to practice or felt like she wasn't improving, she just reminded her self to be PATIENT and keep going. Her determination and PATIENCE paid off when she made the starting spot on the nationally ranked club team. Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.. - Galatians 6:9
How will you practice patience this week? Soccer Skills Challenge: (3 times this week) 1. 1-Touch Volley (30) 2. Thigh Volley (30) 3. Foot-Foot Volley (30) 4. 2 Headers, 3 Headers, 4 Headers...10 Headers Fitness Drills Challenge: (2 times each, 3 times this week) 1-Minute Drills 1. Dots (slalom, right foot, left foot) 2. Star Agility (with & without ball) 3. Shuttle Run (with & without ball) Healthy Eating Challenge: Eat something for breakfast every day this week.
Definition: Keeping your promises and doing what you are supposed to do. Example: Laurie s team has been having trouble remembering to bring all of their gear on game day, therefore players are having to sit out during the game. Laurie s coach asks her to be in charge of reminding all of her teammates to bring their uniform and shoes on game days. This is a big responsibility, and Laurie promises the coach she will do it. The night before their next game, Laurie calls each one of her teammates and reminds them to bring their uniform and shoes to school the next day. At game time, the coach is so impressed that all of the girls have all of their equipment. She pulls Laurie aside and thanks her for her FAITHFULNESS; that she kept her promise when she promised to do something. As a result of Laurie s FAITHFULNESS, every girl got to play in the game and they won! Let love and faithfulness never leave you; bind them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart. Then you will win favor and a good name in the sight of God and man. - Proverbs 3:3-4
How will you practice faithfulness this week? Soccer Skills Challenge: (3 times this week) 1. Figure 8 Speed Dribble (30) 2. PK (30) 3. Juggling (30) Fitness Drills Challenge: (2 times each, 3 times this week) 1-Minute Drills 1. Sit-Up Headers 2. Leg-tosses 3. Superman Healthy Eating Challenge: Eat a green vegetable at least 3 times this week.
Definition: Not thinking you are better than other people. Example: Landon was known throughout the town as being the best player on his team, he scored the most points and had the highest assists. At a local tournament Landon hears some players from another team talking, if that team didn't have Landon they wouldn't be that good, He is the only reason they are winning. Instead of agreeing with the boys, Landon says actually it is a team effort, everyone works really hard, that is why we are doing so well. The boys are shocked at his HUMILITY, because he chose not to take all of the credit for his team s success. The coach hears Landon s response to the boys and is pleased with his example. He is thankful to have players who can be HUMBLE. Pride comes before the fall, but with humility comes wisdom. - Proverbs 11:2
How will you practice humility this week? Message from AYSA & Your Academy Coaches: ALWAYS REMEMBER - There are no shortcuts to becoming a better player, a better teammate, or a better person! Learn the right fundamentals and put in the work to keep getting better in every area of your life! NEVER FORGET - Your value as a person is SO MUCH MORE than what you can do on the field or the court! Never get tired of doing the right things! -2 Thess. 3:13
