GMs: Jeff Franz 5pm-Midnight Devastated by Victory: Warfare in the time of Pyrrhus, BC Event Type: Campaign Theme Rounds: 5 or 6 Players : up to 30 Pyrrhus was a second cousin of Alexander the Great, served under Demetrius, married Ptolemy I's stepdaughter, fought against Demetrius, invaded Thessaly, conquered Macedonia with Lysimachus, was betrayed and driven out of Macedonia by Lysimachus, did his anti-roman thing, was invited back to Macedonia (which had just been invaded by the Galatians) and to Sicily to drive out Carthage both at the same time, chose Sicily, became King of Sicily, conquered the Carthaginians there, created a dictatorship in Sicily, pissed off the Sicilian Greeks enough they made common cause with Carthage against him, went back to Italy, fought Rome some more, went back to Greece, beat Antigonos Gonatus to conquer Macedonia (again), attacked Sparta, failed to take it, went back to Argos to attack Antigonos Gonatus and was killed in the streets of Argos after getting beaned with a ceramic roof tile pitched by a disgruntled old Argive woman. At the same time we have Lysimachus joining with Pyrrhus to oust Demetrios from Macedon, betraying Pyrrhus, assassinating his own son, getting defeated and killed by Seleucus and Ptolemy Keraunos. Ptolemy Keraunos was the first son of Ptolemy I, dispossessed by his father, allied with Seleucus, then as soon as Seleucus stepped off the boat onto Macedonian soil, Ptolemy Keraunos put a knife in his back. Literally! And about a year or so later the Galatians invaded Greece and Ptolemy Keraunos was pulled off his Elephant and slaughtered. Kings and Generals were being assassinated, murdering their progeny, sipping poison, betraying their fathers, wives, brothers, sons, cousins. What a glorious time to be alive!
