I hope you are also excited about the coming change of seasons when the woods turn into brilliant colors for our eyes to see. Enjoy your days afield and bag a day of memories! Welcome to all the new members the past three months and we hope to see you at the club. By the time you read this, our 53 nd annual Field Day will be history. I want to thank everyone who bought tickets, came to our Field Day and to those that helped make it a great day by volunteering to help run the show. It takes everyone pulling in the same direction to make that day a success and I appreciate it from the bottom of my heart! I want to thank all of you for being members of Palmyra Sportsmen. We strive to do our best and continue to be one of the best sportsmen s clubs in the country. This is all made possible by the members of Palmyra Sportsmen and the volunteers who so generously give their time to make our club the best it can be! Please remember that the winter months are very busy on the indoor ranges, so I suggest that you look at our Google calendars or call me before you venture to the club, particularly if you are traveling from a distance. We strive to minimize the closure of the indoor ranges during the winter months. However, due to the large amount of Junior programs and regular programs a certain amount of closure is necessary. In closing, I hope that 2016 was a very good year and wish for all that 2017 will be an even greater year. I want to also extend our condolences to the member s families that we lost this year. Remember that club meeting is always the 3 rd Tuesday at 7PM and all members are welcome to attend. We would like to wish everyone a happy Thanksgiving and a Merry Christmas. I hope Santa brings you everything you want especially good health! Skip NOTICE: Would the member who talked to us about our door security system, please contact Rod or Skip at the clubhouse at Thank you. 1

This committee is in the process of creating new rules for hunting on the club property. These changes will include the type of weapons allowed, specific areas to hunt, tree stand usage, posting of club property, and safety. Any changes will take effect for the 2017/2018 hunting season. If you would like to be part of the committee, please contact Scott Garrison at You can also keep up to date by coming to the club meetings and listening to the monthly report. All rules and regulations will go through the board of directors and then to the club meeting before becoming final. 2

This includes the potential use of the new land as well as current uses of the existing ranges and facilities. Members of the committee include many, if not all, of the disciplines within the club. We had first decided to ask you, our membership, what you wanted from our club in a survey that was first distributed on ranges in late November of last year, and then went to an online format that was ed to our members with active addresses. We had over 100 written responses and nearly 400 online responses totaling 501 responses. This was a tremendous response and gave us information that the committee took to heart. Some of the information came out as expected. For example, the ranges in most demand include the outdoor pistol pits and the outdoor rifle range, followed closely by the indoor pistol range. Also, while our ranges were seen overall in good shape, there were some areas that were seen to need improvement. In the comments section is where we learned the most and is where the committee is looking to fulfill our members concerns. The comments were grouped according to their discipline, Archery, Trap, Pistol, Sporting Clays, or Fishing, and then given to the appropriate committee to determine their priority. Some of the items have already 3 been completed. For example, archery has implemented several items to help with crossbow shooting. On the outdoor archery range near the club house, there is now a table to use for crossbows and on the indoor range new backstop material is being used instead of cardboard again to help with crossbow usage. There were several comments on the pistol range, some of which included the cleanliness of the range. The pistol committee now has a floor cleaner designated for the pistol range and has set up a cleaning schedule, which will help in the range s maintenance. There were also comments that will take more time; and if approved, would be in the more distant future. These include, installing target carriers on the pistol range so that firing can occur at multiple distances at the same time and new ranges, possibly a long distance range up to 600 yards. These type of projects, of course, need to be well thought out; and our growth as an organization has to include these ideas, which is the purpose of the planning committee. Also a short term project that we are undergoing is that we are contacting Ex-club members with the hope of trying to learn why they did not renew their membership. This again will give us information that the committee can put to use to try to retain these individuals. All of this information and your comments is being put together in an overall plan which will be presented to the board in the near future. Thank you for your help.

Club members please be advised that the archery range will be closed at these times-please check calendar. Trap-Clay Target Shooting By Bruce Meyerhoffer Tuesday evenings from 4pm to 7:30pm is our practice night. These shoots are being well attended. Shooting under the lights is usually a bit more fun. Join us some Tuesday evening for a little shotgun shooting fun. Our Labor Day ATA Shoot was well attended with about 50 entries each shooting 100 targets. Our final ATA Shoot for the season was held on October 2. This was a dreary, misty, rainy Sunday that greatly affected our turnout. The bright spot was a 13 year old youth shooter from southern Lancaster County who broke a 25, 25, 25 and 24 for a total of 99 out of 100 targets. Sheldon Hostetter who came in a close second broke 23, 25, 25, and 25 for a total of 98 out of 100. The rest of us were having a good time getting a little damp; of course our volunteer score keepers were able to keep dry since they had umbrellas. Please watch our Website for next year s ATA dates. Club Policies No exploding targets No self-sealing cube or square targets No bump firing or slide fire/ bump fire stocks These policies were passed by the membership at a club meeting due to safety concerns. The most important factor is to keep ALL shots on the back stop. No rounds can leave the range; keep this in mind when you are using any of the ranges. Please remember that gun safety and range safety is your responsibility. Target Ranges Do NOT move or readjust targets or frames that are on the shooting ranges. Please leave them where they are set. We have recently experienced considerable damage to targets, frames and stands that were not PSA's property and they will have to be replaced at the clubs expense. Use only targets and backers that are provided by Palmyra Sportsmen's Association on any range. Membership Renewals and Changes REMINDER - You will receive a post card in the mail approximately 60 days before your membership is due for renewal. 6 Junior Pistol 2016 PPP Nationals Veni vidi vici Our Jr. Pistol team ended July by attending the 2016 PPP (Progressive Position Pistol) Nationals in Ft. Benning, GA. Ft. Benning is the home of the AMU (Army Marksmanship Unit) who hosted the eastern venue of this event. The western venue was at the OTC (Olympic Training Center) in Colorado Springs, CO. This competition is a 10 meter air pistol event consisting of 2 days of 40 shot qualifying sessions. After 2 days of qualifying, scores are combined and the top 8 scores for men and for women shoot a finals session. The team pictured below, trained from October to the week they left for GA. Andrew Sturrup, Pinky (Kyler) Swisher, Amber Sturrup Devin DePamphilis, Jennifer Hardison, Emily Nothnagle, Maggie Shifflett Maggie returned from nearly a month in Argentina where she was part of a group sent to overthrow the government or experience the culture (I was never clear on the purpose). She was home for less than a week before getting in the van for Benning. Jenni (with an i) was making her first trip to nationals nationals will never be the same! Day 1 went well, we had a little nationals jitters but nothing fatal. Devin impressed everyone with his major improvement over last year nationals. When the dust settled: - 5 members of the team shot their best nationals - 3 Personal bests - Jenni, Maggie and Amber made the women s finals - Pinky made the men s finals - Andrew finished 9 th missing finals by 1 spot **This would be the first match finals for all four shooters Day 2 brought higher scores across the board. Finals Results Women: Maggie 5 th Amber 4 th Jenni 2 nd and it was close! Men: Pinky 1 st Took an early lead and never looked back It was a great effort by all in their first finals! 6

7 The PA State Team (Jenni, Maggie and Pinky) brought home the silver medal just 2 points below the winning team. After qualifying 3 rd with a 694, Jenni s efforts in the finals earned her the women s silver Pinky was in 2 nd after a day 1 score of 362 his blistering day 2 score of 379 put him in front by 5 points. Winning the finals sealed the deal. Pinky is the 2016 PPP National men s champion. By winning he also earned a spot on the Junior Olympic Pistol Squad and a USA jacket. 7
