The skin should be smooth and healthy in appearance, and without cellulite. The face, hair and makeup should complete the total package presented by the athletes. The judge s assessment of the athlete s physique should include the athlete s entire presentation, from the moment she walks onstage until the moment she walks offstage. At all times, the Bikini-fitness competitor must be viewed with the emphasis on a healthy and fit physique, in an attractively presented Total package. Judges are reminded that this is not a bodybuilding contest. The competitors should have shape to their muscle but not the separation, definition, very low body fat level or hardness that is seen in the body fitness competitors. 29 Scoring (quarter turns and mandatory poses): The scoring is carried out as follows: - Each judge awards each competitor an individual placing, ensuring that no two or more competitors receive the same placing. - With nine judges, two high and two low scores are discarded. The remaining scores are summed to produce a round sub-score and placing. - Statisticians will collect the judges scoring papers for this round before the next round begins. - Ties are broken using the relative placement method. Assessment: Round one and two (quarter turns and mandatory poses): - The judge should first assess the overall female athletic appearance of the physique. This assessment should begin at the head and extend downwards, taking the whole physique into account. The assessment, beginning with the general impression of the physique, should take into consideration the hair and facial features; the overall athletic development of the muscle maturity; the presentation of a balanced, symmetrically developed physique; the condition of the skin and the skin tone; and the athlete s ability to present onstage with confidence. - During the comparisons of the Mandatory Poses, the judge should first look at the primary muscle group being displayed. The judge should then survey the whole physique, starting from the head, and looking at every part of the physique in a downward sequence, beginning with general impressions, and looking for a symmetrical balanced development of all the muscle groups and definition. The downward survey should take in the head, neck, shoulders, chest, all of the arm muscles, front of the trunk for pectorals, pec-delt tie-in, abdominals, waist, thighs, legs, calves and feet. The same procedure for back poses will also take in the upper and lower trapezius, teres and infraspinatus, erector spinae, the gluteus group, the leg biceps group at the back of the thighs, calves, and feet. A detailed assessment of the various muscle groups should be made during the comparisons, at which time the judge must compare muscle shape, density, and definition while still bearing in mind the competitor s overall balanced development and femininity. - The physique should be assessed as to the level of overall muscle tone, achieved through athletic endeavours. The muscle groups should have a round and firm appearance with a small amount of body fat. - The assessment should also take into consideration the tightness and tone of the skin. The skin tone should be smooth and healthy in appearance. - The judge s assessment of the athlete s physique should include the athlete s entire presentation, from the moment she walks onstage until the moment she walks offstage. At all times the competitor must be viewed with the emphasis on a healthy, fit, athletic-looking muscular physique, in an attractively presented total package. The scores are used only to place the competitors from 1st to 15th and to determine the top 6 finalists who then advance to the Finals in Round 2 and Round 3. The top 6 finalists start the finals with zero points. Round two: 30 second individual posing routine - Each individual athlete will be called onstage to perform her 30 second individual posing routine. - After all the athletes completed their individual posing routines, all athletes will be brought onstage for prize giving. Page 29 of 102

The use of props is prohibited. The judges are reminded that, during this round, they are judging the routine and the physique. 35 6. FIGURE FITNESS Kindly take special note of this division General This division is not held at any international championship. This is not a new division the IFBB SA has had this division on their list and within the Athletes Rules for some time now. This division has been implemented in South Africa as part of our development programme. It was officially recognized by IFBB SA, that there was a gap between the ladies starting out as a novice fitness, and the lady who is more advanced in the ladies fitness division. Therefore, it was essential for us to create a bridge to close that gap. Girls have an opportunity to start out with the FIGURE FITNESS DIVISION and will then eventually move on into the ladies fitness. This figure fitness division is used as a stepping stone for the ladies to gain experience, improve on their gymnastics skills, and gain stage confidence. Whilst the athlete is working towards her goal she can use the figure fitness division to gain experience in preparation / diet / attire / presentation / confidence / poise / grace / gymnastics / structured dance / or whatever is required for the more advanced division. Generally, the time span to participate in the figure fitness division depends on how long it takes the girl to master the necessary requirements for the ladies fitness division. In saying this however, we would also like to see each girl progress after a full two seasons of participation. Ladies that participate in this division should realize that it is not a requirement that all ladies must start out in this division before moving on to the ladies fitness division. It is designed for the ladies that wish to start off slowly, and progress with what is required for the ladies fitness division. There will be two rounds routine round and costume round. The girls may dress as they deem appropriate to perform their routine. The routine will be 90 seconds. No G- strings/no props. The girls will deliver a good routine of a high standard showing off personality, creativity, dance and/or aerobics. The tempo of the routine can vary from slow to fast. The girls will include only the basic leg extension hold and one arm push up for the element of strength, she will include only 3 high kicks and front slit for elements of flexibility and finally she will not perform her entire routine at a constant extreme high speed. In the costume round she will wear a bikini of own choice and high heels of own choice. Hair may be styled and jewellery worn. The judges will judge each girl on her routine, music, presentation, her confidence, her hair and makeup, her choice of bikini and shoes, the tone of her body, her beauty, and the way that she carries herself. Round one routine - The girls may dress as they deem appropriate to perform their routine. - The routine will be 90 seconds. - No G-strings. - No props. - ** The following is extremely important for all of the girls participating in this division to take note of for round one: Page 35 of 102

36 - The girls will deliver a good routine of a high standard showing off personality, creativity, dance and/or little aerobics. - The tempo of the routine can vary from slow to fast. - The girls will not include any element of strength, elements of flexibility, nor will they perform at a constant extreme speed all of which is included and acceptable only in the fitness routines. - The figure athletes will be penalized if this does occur. It is not acceptable in this division. Round two costume - The girls will wear a bikini of own choice and high heels of own choice. - Hair may be styled and jewellery worn. - The entire line up of girls will be brought onto the stage in numerical order they will perform the quarter turns (quarter turns same as Bikini Fitness, Body Fitness, Physique, Fitness). - The judges will judge each girl on her presentation, her confidence, her hair and makeup, her choice of bikini and shoes, the tone of her body, her beauty, and the way that she carries herself. - The judges may call for comparisons. - Once the judges are happy the girls will leave the stage. 7. WOMEN S FITNESS General This division has two rounds the first is the routine round and the second is the quarter turn round. The girls should be athletic and fit. They will not perform compulsory poses, but will perform the quarter turns. The length of the free routine will be 90 seconds. There is only one line up in this division for Senior women. Requirements for this round - Girls may wear attire and tennis or athletic shoes to perform their routine as well as barefoot if they so choose. - No G-strings at all. Not to be worn over garments or under garments. - No props may be used. - Bikini bottoms must cover ½ of bottom area and all of the frontal area. - At all times, the bikini bottom must be worn in a manner that prevents it from slipping between the buttocks to appear like a G-string. - Each competitor will be called onto the stage in numerical order to perform their individual free routine to the choice of their own music. (Routine is max 90 seconds). Movements that should be included in the routine are: Elements of strength - the straddle hold, leg extension hold and one arm push-ups. Gymnastics movements such as front and back flips, handsprings and cartwheels are not considered strength moves however, to incorporate them into the routine will show overall creativity and difficulty. Speed - the tempo of the routine demonstrates a degree of cardiovascular fitness, stamina and endurance. Fitness compulsory moves (see below): Page 37 of 102

38 General assessment of this round - Judges are reminded that you are judging the routine and not the physique in this round. - Look for flow in the routine. - Look for showmanship. - Ensure that the athlete has included all of the movement requirements - and has executed them well as well as has there been flow in the routine from one movement to the next without the routine looking out of place. - Assess choreography and use of interpretation. - Does the attire match the music and routine theme? - Is she confident? - Is she graceful? - Look at the athlete s lines and balance in performance. - Were you entertained? - Do not consider an aerobic routine as a fitness routine. - The routine count 40% of the overall placing of the athlete. If time permits, each semifinalist will be introduced by number, name, and country. Decision will be made by the Chief Judge, who will inform the Master of Ceremony or the Announcer. 2. The line-up will be divided into two equal-size groups and will be positioned onstage so that one group is to the left of the stage; the other group is to the right of the stage. The center portion of the stage will be left open for comparison purposes. 3. In numerical order, and in groups of no more than eight competitors at a time, each group will be directed to center-stage area to perform the following initial four Mandatory Poses: a. Front double biceps b. Side chest c. Back double biceps d. Abdominals and thighs. 4. All individual comparisons are to be carried out center-stage. 5. In Round 1 individual comparisons, formulated by the IFBB Chief Judge, competitors are directed to perform the following four Quarter Turns and seven Mandatory Poses: a) Quarter Turn Right b) Quarter Turn Back c) Quarter Turn Right d) Quarter Turn Front 1) Front double biceps 2) Side chest 3) Back double biceps 4) Side triceps 5) Vacuum pose 6)Abdominals and thighs in two times at the same mandatory pose 7) Classic pose: athlete s own choice APPENDIX 1: DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE SIX MANDATORY POSES 1. 1 MEN S MANDATORY POSES: 1. Front Double Biceps: Standing face front to the judges, with one leg slightly moved forward and to the side, the competitor will raise both arms to shoulder level and bend them at the elbows. The hands should be clenched and turned down so as to cause a contraction of the biceps and forearm muscles, which are the main muscle groups that are to be assessed in this pose. In addition, the competitor should attempt to contract as 15 many other muscles as possible as the judges will be surveying the whole physique, from head to toe. The judge will first survey the biceps muscles looking for a full, peaked development of the muscle, noting whether or not there is a defined split between the anterior and posterior sections of the biceps, and will continue the head-to-toe survey by observing the development of the forearms, deltoids, pectorals, pec-delt tie-ins, abdominals, thighs, and calves. The judge will also look for muscle density, definition, and overall balance. 2. Side Chest: The competitor may choose either side for this pose, in order to display the better arm. He will stand with his left or right side towards the judges and will bend the arm nearest the judges to a rightangle position, with the fist clenched and, with the other hand, will grasp the wrist. The leg nearest the judges will be bent at the knee and will rest on the toes. The competitor will then expand the chest and by upward pressure of the front bent arm and contract the biceps as much as possible. He will also contract the thigh muscles, in particular, the biceps femoris group, and by downward pressure on his toes, will display the contracted calf muscles. The judge will pay particular attention to the pectoral muscles and the arch of the rib cage, the biceps, the leg biceps and the calves, and will conclude with Page 63 of 102

64 the head-to foot examination. In this pose the judge will be able to survey the thigh and calf muscles in profile, which will help in grading their comparative development more accurately. 4. Back Double Biceps (see Figure) 3. Back Double Biceps: Standing with his back to the judges, the competitor will bend the arms and wrists as in the Front Double Biceps pose, and will place one foot back, resting on the toes. He will then contract the arm muscles as well as the muscles of the shoulders, upper and lower back, thigh and calf muscles. The judge will first survey the arm muscles and then do the head-to-foot survey, during which there are more muscle groups to look at than in all of the other poses. This includes the neck, deltoids, biceps, triceps, forearm, trapezius, teres, infraspinatus, erector spinae, external obliques, latissimus dorsi, gluteus, thigh biceps, and calves. This pose, probably more than the others, will help the judge to determine the quality of the competitor s muscle density, definition, and overall balance. 4. Side Triceps: The competitor may choose either side for this pose so as to show the better arm. He will stand with his left or right side towards the judges and will place both arms behind his back, either linking his fingers or grasping the front arm by the wrist with his rear hand. The leg nearest the judges will be bent at the knee and the foot will rest flat on the floor. The leg farthest the judges moved back and the foot resting on the toes. The competitor will exert pressure against his front arm, thereby causing the triceps muscle to contract. He will also raise the chest and contract the abdominal muscles as well as the thigh and calf muscles. The judge will first survey the triceps muscles, and conclude with the head-to-foot examination. In this pose, the judge will be able to survey the thigh and calf muscles in profile, which will help in grading their comparative development more accurately. 5. Vacuum Pose Abdominals and Thighs: This is a mandatory pose in two times. Standing face front to the judges, the competitor will place both arms behind the head and will place the feet together. Then he will pose at the first voice ("Front position, Vacuum Pose") this way: in the abdominal area the athlete must to do the vacuum pose at the same time flexing the transverse inner muscle, flexing legs, torso and arms also. Then for the second voice ("Abdominal and Thighs"); He will then contract the abdominal muscles by crunching the trunk slightly forward and showing a leg forward. At the same time, he will contract the thigh muscles of the leg(s). The judge will survey the abdominal and thigh muscles, and then conclude with the head-to-foot examination. 6. Classic pose at athlete choice. 13. 69 14. MUSCULAR MEN S PHYSIQUE The Muscular Men s Physique category is aimed at men who prefer to develop a less muscular, yet athletic and aesthetically pleasing physique. The main difference between Muscular Men s Physique and Athletic Physique is that the muscular physique athletes carry slightly more muscle, but not as much muscle as a bodybuilder. The Muscular Men s Physique is intended for athletes who want to develop a fuller physique but not along the lines of the Men s Bodybuilding division. There is one open category in World-level Muscular Men s Physique competitions. NOTE: Muscular men s physique category is intended for competitors with slightly bigger muscularity than accepted in regular men s physique. This category winner doesn t take part in the Men s Physique Overall category. Assessing the physique: When assessing the muscle men s physique, be aware of the development within the shoulders area (deltoid heads) and the arms (biceps) there must be a balance between these muscle groups with no one muscle group overpowering the other, in other words balance between muscle groups. The physique will have separation between muscle groups but no striation of any of the muscle groups, you are looking for clean sharp separation between these various muscle groups. The back will have development of the various muscle groups but no thickness in these muscles as would be the case with the bodybuilders so a flatter more separated appearance of these muscles. Page 69 of 102

70 The lat will have a wide fleer and strong tapper into a small waist, the intercostal and serratus muscles will stand proud with the abdominal muscles being thick in development. Look for balance between the muscle groups and the proportions of these muscle groups, they all need to look in proportion with no one muscle group overpowering the next. Take into account the hair and facial features and the overall package being displayed on stage with clean cut lines, this will complete the total package. This category is aimed at athletic physique athletes that would normally not place well in the men s athletic physique division, yet they don t carry as much muscle mass as a bodybuilder. The muscular men s physique athlete must still have a narrow waist, with no distinct thick muscles. Attire The attire for all rounds is board shorts, which must conform to the following criteria: - Material and colour can be of the athlete s personal choice. - No tight, Lycra style shorts are allowed. - Personal Sponsors logos are not permitted on the board shorts. However, a manufacturer s such as Nike, Adidas or Billabong are accepted. - No footwear. - No jewellery or other accessories, except for a wedding ring. - Bermuda pants will not be deemed as board shorts as Bermuda pants have belt loops. Rounds Muscular Men s Physique will consist of 2 Rounds as follows: Round One: Quarter Turns Presentation of Round one - Competitors will enter the stage without a shirt and barefoot. No lewd acts allowed for example the moon pose. - Under the direction of the Chief Judge, round 1 is carried out as follows: - Competitors will enter the stage one by one and walk to the front and centre of the stage. Judges are reminded that they are judging the physique package. Round Two The athlete will present a routine with a view towards style, personality, athletic co-ordination, including strength and flexibility moves as well as gymnastic moves. The routine may also include aerobic and dance as well as any other demonstration moves showing athletic talent. The routine attire will be inspected during weigh-in before the athlete is allowed on stage. This will be done to music of his own choice for the duration of 90 seconds. Page 77 of 102

78 Movements that should be included in the routine are: Elements of strength - the straddle hold, leg extension hold and one arm push-ups. Gymnastics movements such as front and back flips, handsprings and cartwheels are not considered strength moves however, to incorporate them into the routine will show overall creativity and difficulty. Elements of flexibility - high kicks, side splits and/or front splits must be included. The number of flexible moves and degree of difficulty will be taken into consideration. Speed - the tempo of the routine demonstrates a degree of cardiovascular fitness, stamina and endurance. General assessment of this round - Judges are reminded that you are judging the routine and not the physique in this round. - Look at the athletes lines and balance in performance. - Were you entertained? - Do not consider an aerobic routine as a fitness routine. - The routine count 40% of the overall placing of the athlete. - Statisticians will collect all judges scores after the completion of this round. Fitness compulsory moves (same as for women s fitness division): Page 78 of 102

The muscle groups should have a round and firm appearance with a small amount of body fat. Round two the compulsory poses The line-up of athletes will then complete the compulsory poses after the quarter turns. The Chief Judge will call out the poses and athletes will be given time to get into the pose and hold this for the judges to assess. Compulsory poses as follows - Front double bicep - Front lat spread - Side chest - Side triceps - Rear double bicep - Rear lat spread - A modified seated most muscular (where the athlete will press the palms of his hands together with fingers overlapping the opposite wrist elbows brought up to shoulder level and by pushing his palms together will tense all chest, abdominal, shoulder and arm muscles) Round two: Judge s assessment - Proportion - Definition - Symmetry Page 85 of 102

86 - Conditioning - Balance - Striations - Effectiveness of tan - Presentation - Confidence - Wide shoulders and narrow hip taper - Good shoulder development arms not overpowering the - Shoulder caps and vice versa resulting in symmetry - Lat connection should be low into the waist - Overall depth of muscle Round three the free posing routine The athletes will be asked to return to the stage individually to perform their free posing routine. The maximum time limit is 60 seconds to music of their choice but the athlete does not need to perform for the full time, for example: If he wishes to present a routine of 40 seconds long this will be acceptable. The routine must include all the mandatory poses as allocated within their category (much like the classic bodybuilding). 17. ROUTINE WITH PROPS - MEN A new category to be included into the IFBB shows in South Africa. This division will be introduced during the 2010 and 2011 seasons, and will be held on a Provincial level. This is a men s open line up - consisting of a routine round with the use of props. There are no quarter turns or mandatory poses or comparisons included in this division. Criteria - There is one division and one round only. - There are no height / weight / age limitations. - Any male athlete may enter this division (bodybuilders/male fitness athletes/classic bodybuilders/novices). - Any male athlete in any age group/section may enter this division (juniors, seniors, masters). - Even though the athletes has competed in one of the standard divisions of a show, he may also compete in this line up as his second entry in the same show if he so chooses. Or, an athlete also has the choice to enter this division as the sole division he participates in at the show. - The athletes are not judged on the standard criteria for a line up in round one for a weight/height division they are judged purely on their routine performance. And this is why there are no height /weight /age limitations for this division. Page 86 of 102

87 Presentation All athletes in the division will be brought onto stage in numerical sequence and will stand in front of the judges for a short while whilst being introduced by the compere. Athletes will then all leave the stage and return individually for their routines. MIXED PAIRS General Mixed pairs was officially recognised as a sport discipline by the 1983 IFBB International Congress in Singapore as a bodbuilding mixed pairs; however the 2013 IFBB International Congress in Marrakesh, Morocco, finally cancelled women s bodybuilding as an IFBB sport discipline. Therefore nowadays the IFBB Mixed Pairs category is open for athletes representing different IFBB sport divisions. Categories There is one open category in the Mixed Pairs division. A mixed pair may be composed of a male bodybuilder or male classic bodybuilder together with a female physique or female fitness or female body fitness athlete. Round One During round one all pairs will be brought onstage and if necessary, elimination will take place during this round. - Pairs will be brought onstage in numerical order and in two single lines, if necessary. - The line-up is divided into two equal-size groups and is positioned onstage so that one group is to the left and the other group to the right of the stage, leaving the centre stage for comparison purposes. - In numerical order, and in groups of not more than three couples at a time, each group is directed to the centre-stage area to perform the following mandatory poses; o o o o o Front double biceps Side chest Back double biceps Side triceps Abdominals and thighs NOTE: The men will perform the above compulsory poses in the same manner as described in the men s bodybuilding section, while the women will perform these compulsory poses in the same manner as described in the women s physique section. The abdominals and thighs pose will be performed by both partners in the men s bodybuilding style. - Competitors will not chew gum or any other products while onstage, nor drink any liquid while onstage. - After the completion of the first round, all couples will leave the stage. Round Two - Round two will commence directly after round one. - In the second round, each couple will perform a posing routine to music of their chouce, up to a maximum of 90 seconds. Page 88 of 102

89 Attire & Rules - Men competitors will wear the same attire like in the Men s bodybuilding division; one-coloured, opaque posing trunks which are clean and decent. The colour, fabric, texture and style of the trunks will be left to the competitor s discretion. The trunks will cover a minimum of ¾ of the gluteur maximus. The front area must be covered and the side of the trunks should be 1cm in width at a minimum. The use of padding anywere in the trunks is prohibited. - Women competitors will wear the same attire like in Women s Physique: The bikini will be plain opaque two-piece in style. The colour, fabric, texture and style of the trunks will be left to the competitor s discretion. The bikini bottom will cover a minimum of ½ of the gluteus maximus and all of the frontal area. The bikini must be in good taste. Strings are strictly prohibited. The attire will be inspected during weighin. - Except for a wedding ring, men will not wear any footgear, glasses, watches, bangles, pendants, necklaces, bracelets, earrings, wigs, distracting ornamentation or artificial aids to the figure. Women may wear bracelets and earrings. - No competitor may wear any clothing/attachment that will alter the natural shape of any body part. - The use of props is strictly prohibited during any of the rounds. - The attire for both round one and two stays the same. - No wipe off tan/bronzers will be allowed. Artificial body colouring and self-tanning products may be used provided that it is applied at least twenty-four hours prior to the pre-judging. Professional companies may be used to apply tan/bronzers. Sparkles, glitter, shiny metallic pearls or gold colouring are porhibited whether applied as part of a tanning lotion or applied separately, regarless of who applied them on the competitor s body. - Excessive application of oil on the body is strictly prohibited however body oils and moisturizers may be used in moderation. - The IFBB Chief Judge or delegated judge/s will have the right to make the decision if a competitor s attire meets the criteria. - Music must be handed in prior to the start of the pre-judging. The posing routine will be included in the pre-judging as the routine should include the compulsory poses, line in the classic bodybuilding division. Judge s Assessment - Attire must be matching and complimentary which enhances the mixed-pair s physiques and their appearance as a combined unit. Both members of each mixed pair shall wear the same number pinned to the trunks or binikin. - Judges will be assessing the overall physique of both partners for the degree of proportion, symmetry, muscle size and quality (dencity, separation) as well as skin tone. - The couple will also be assessed as a unit with particular attention being given to how well their individual physiques complement each other and how well they move in unison. - The judge will assess each mixed pair as an entity. Physiques should match, harmonize and complement each other. Physiques should also be balanced on both partners. - When similar poses and limb movements are used by the two partners, as in the compulsoryposes, higher placings will be awarded for greater accuracy in achieving identical lines. - Stage presentation is of utmost importance, with mached posing costumes and tanning. A good pair presentation can impress the judges on their ability to move, blend and work together as one unit. - During the routine round, judges should take note of the following: o o How well each pair display their physiques to the music. Look for smooth, artistic and well-choreographed routines which may include a number of poses. Page 89 of 102

90 o o o o The mandatory poses for mixed pairs must be included in the posing routine. Couples must also include itermittent pauses so as to display the muscular development of their physiques. Moon poses and pulling the posing attire so as to display the top iside of the quadriceps or the gluets shall be strictly forbidden. During the routine round, judges will be judging 50% physique and 50% routine. - Competitors will be assessed both individually and as a unit with particular attention being gien on how well their individual physiques complement each other and how well they move in unison. - Look out for physiques that are markedly dissimilar and unbalanced. - Pairs must be able to move, blend and work together as one unit. - Routines must presented as polished and entertaining to the choice of music, where each athlete moves together as one with smooth transitions between poses. Routines must be creative at an equal, steady tempo/speed. - Muscle Mass: Competitors must exhibit a similar degree of muscular development, taking into account natural differences in muscle size between man and woman. But heavyweight bodybuilder in pair with body fitness woman is not a well-matched couple. - Separation: This factor must be considered in conjunction with muscle mass. Separation is the delineation between the muscle groups of the physique. Excess subcutaneous fatty tissue and/or water under the skin blurs this muscular division resulting in a smooth appearance. A good physique must have muscular mass which is complemented by deep muscular separation. - Definition: Definition is the display of the individual muscles and their details, often calls striations or as ripped muscles. A physique that has good muscle mass, separation and definition must be scored highly. However, definition that is taken to the point of emaciation, will only reduce mass and fullness and can t be scored highly. Definition will allow competitors to show pure muscle mass, otherwise the muscles appear stringy and flat. - Proportions: A proportional physique includes the genetic component of the competitor: wide shoulders, narrow hips, trim waist and a deep rib-cage. Also the length of legs, trunk, midsection, arms and neck, which should be in balance and harmony. The upper body should not be developed to the extent that it overpowers the lower body and vice-versa. All body parts should flow in harmony with no body part being over developed to the detriment of the others. Faults such as knock- knees, bowed legs, rounded shoulders or any curvature of the spine and other defects of the posture are to be scored down. - Symmetry: Right and left sides of the body should be equally developed, so as to not exhibit visible differences in size, e.g. left and right biceps or shoulders. 1.1 MIXED-PAIRS MANDATORY POSES: 1. Front Double Biceps Man: Standing face front to the judges, with one leg cm forward and to the side, the competitor will raise both arms to shoulder level and bend them at the elbows. The hands should be clenched and turned down so as to cause a contraction of the biceps and forearm muscles, which are the main muscle groups that are to be assessed in this pose. In addition, the competitor should attempt to contract as many other muscles as possible as the judges will be surveying the whole physique, from head to toe. The judge will first survey the biceps muscles looking for a full, peaked development of the muscle, noting if there is a defined split between the anterior and posterior sections of the biceps, and will continue the headto-toe survey by observing the development of the forearms, deltoids, pectorals, pec-delt tie-ins, abdominals, thighs, and calves. The judge will also look for muscle density, definition, and overall balance. Woman: Standing front to the judges, with the legs and feet in-line and the right/left leg placed out to the side, the competitor will raise both arms to shoulder level and bend them at the elbows. The hands should be Page 90 of 102

91 opened, with fingers directed up. In addition, the competitor should attempt to contract as many other muscles as possible as the judges will be surveying the whole physique, from head to toe. The judge will survey the whole physique, from head to toe, by observing the overall body lines and balance, the contours of each body part, achieved by the development of proper muscles, as well as the overall body proportions and symmetry. The judge will also look for muscle density, low body fat level and overall balance. 2. Side Chest Man: The competitor may choose either side for this pose, to display the better arm. He will stand with his left or right side towards the judges and will bend the arm nearest the judges to a right-angle position, with the fist clenched and, with the other hand, will grasp the wrist. The leg nearest the judges will be bent at the knee and will rest on the toes. The competitor will then expand the chest and by upward pressure of the front bent arm and contract the biceps as much as possible. He will also contract the thigh muscles the biceps femoris group, and by downward pressure on his toes, will display the contracted calf muscles. The judge will pay attention to the pectoral muscles and the arch of the rib cage, the biceps, the leg biceps and the calves, and will conclude with the head-to foot examination. In this pose the judge will be able to survey the thigh and calf muscles in profile, which will help in grading their comparative development more accurately. Woman: The competitor may choose either side for this pose, in order to display the better arm. She will stand left or right side to the judges, with the upper body slightly twisted to the judges, face looking to the judges, stomach in, leg nearest to the judges straight, locked at the knee, moved forward and resting on the toes, leg farthest to the judges slightly bent at the knee, with foot resting flat of the floor, both arms kept slightly front of the body, straight and locked at the elbow, thumb and fingers together, palm facing down and kept together or one over the other. The competitor will then contract the pectoral muscles, the triceps muscle and the thigh muscles the biceps femoris group, and by downward pressure on her toes, will display the contracted calf muscles. The judge will pay attention to the pectoral muscles, the triceps, the leg quadriceps and the calf, and will conclude with the head-to-foot examination. In this pose, the judge will be able to survey the thigh and calf muscles in profile, which will help in grading their comparative development more accurately. 3. Back Double Biceps Man: Standing with his back to the judges, the competitor will bend the arms and wrists as in the Front Double Biceps pose, and will place one foot back, resting on the toes. Woman: Standing with her back to the judges, the competitor will bend the arms as in the Front Pose, keep the hands opened, place one foot back and resting on the toes. She will then contract the arm muscles as well as the muscles of the shoulders, upper and lower back, thigh and calf muscles. The judge will survey the whole physique, from head to toe, by observing the overall body lines and balance, the contours of each body part, achieved by the development of proper muscles, as well as the overall body proportions and symmetry. The judge will also look for muscle density, low body fat level and overall balance. 4. Side Triceps Man: The competitor may choose either side for this pose so as to show the better arm. He will stand with his left or right side towards the judges and will place both arms behind his back, either linking his fingers or grasping the front arm by the wrist with his rear hand. The leg nearest the judges will be bent at the knee and the foot will rest flat on the floor. The leg farthest to the judges will be bent at the knee and the foot resting on the toes. The competitor will exert pressure against his front arm, thereby causing the triceps muscle to contract. He will also raise the chest and contract the abdominal muscles as well as the thigh and calf muscles. Page 91 of 102

92 The judge will first survey the triceps muscles, and conclude with the head-to-foot examination. In this pose, the judge will be able to survey the thigh and calf muscles in profile, which will help in grading their comparative development more accurately. Woman: The competitor may choose either side for this pose so as to show the better arm. She will stand with her left or right side towards the judges, face looking to the judges, chest out, stomach in, and will place both arms behind her back, grasping the front arm by the wrist with her rear hand. The arm nearest to the judges will be straight and locked at the elbow, with open hand, thumb and fingers together, palm facing down and in a horizontal position. The competitor will exert pressure against her front arm, thereby causing the triceps muscle to contract. The rear leg will be bent at the knee and the foot will rest flat on the floor. Leg nearest to the judges will be straight, locked at the knee, moved forward and resting on the toes. The judge will first survey the triceps muscles, and conclude with the head-to-foot examination. In this pose, the judge will be able to survey the whole physique in profile, the chest and abdominal contours, the thigh and calf muscles, which will help in grading their comparative development more accurately. will be able to survey the thigh and calf muscles. 5. Abdominals and Thighs Man and woman: Standing face front to the judges, the competitor will place both arms behind the head and will place one leg forward or will keep the legs and feet in-line and up to 15 cm apart (optionally). He/she will then contract the abdominal muscles by crunching the trunk slightly forward. At the same time, he/she will contract the thigh muscles of the leg(s). The judge will survey the abdominal and thigh muscles, and then conclude with the head- to-foot examination. Page 92 of 102
