7 INFORMATION ABOUT THE REPUBLIC OF KOREA Time Zone KST (Korean Standard Time) UTC/ GMT + 9 hours Weather The Republic of Korea is classed as having a temperate climate with four distinct seasons, but temperature differences between the hottest part of summer and the depths of winter are extreme. In PyeongChang, the average temperature in February is -5 C and in Gangneung 2 C. Currency South Korean Won (KRW) Power and Plugs Each bedroom and office includes a minimum of two double-plug electrical outlets that operate on 220-volt alternating current (220V/ AC) the standard power for all equipment supplied by POCOG. 12 Village Info and Services For more detailed information, please visit the Athlete365 website Resident Centres Each Resident Centre has a front desk that provides information about accommodation and services available in the Village. A self-service laundry is available, free of charge. Athlete365 Space The International Olympic Committee is pleased to present in each Olympic Village the Athlete365 Space located at the entrance to the dining hall. You can relax and watch your fellow athletes compete on a big screen. Fun activities will also take place there, so come and check it out. You can interact with the IOC Athletes Commission members and elect your athlete representatives. Olympic Village Entertainment Centre Located in both Villages, the Olympic Village Entertainment Centre includes a lounge with Wi-Fi, a music area, a games room and a video games room. Village Gym There is a gym in each Village with a wide selection of cardiovascular equipment, resistance machines and free weights, as well as space for stretching. 12
13 Village Info and Services Polyclinic There is a polyclinic available in both Villages. The polyclinic is the main treatment provider for urgent and necessary medical services during the Games. IOC Safeguarding Office The polyclinic in each Olympic Village has an IOC Safeguarding Office staffed by an IOC Safeguarding Officer. Contact the IOC Safeguarding Officer in the event of any concerns about harassment and/or abuse during Games time. WADA Booth The World Anti-Doping Agency s (WADA) mission is to lead the worldwide movement for doping-free sport. Find out more at the WADA booth, located at the entrance to the Main Dining Hall of both Villages. 13
14 Village Info and Services Truce Mural A Truce Mural is located in each Village. Athletes and officials at each edition of the Games are invited to show their support for peace and solidarity by signing this Mural. Signing it is a symbolic gesture through which you commit to acting as Peace ambassadors. Multi-Faith Centres Multi-Faith Centres are available in both Villages and are open to people of all faiths. These centres are dedicated to worship and meditation. Place of Mourning A place of mourning is available within the PyeongChang Olympic Village to allow athletes and all those in the Village to mourn those who have passed away in a special and dignified way. There is an inter-village shuttle bus available for those staying at Gangneung Village. 14
15 Village Info and Services Housekeeping Available daily. Apartments are cleaned regularly by staff, who make beds, provide fresh towels and clean the rooms. If you require extra cleaning, contact the Resident Centre reception. Dry Cleaning Dry cleaning, tailoring and other professional laundry services are available for a fee at the Village Plaza in both Villages. Wi-Fi Complimentary internet access is available throughout the Villages. 15
16 Village Policies Display of National Flags Displays of national flags and other messaging or materials on the exterior of the buildings in the Olympic Village must comply with Rule 50. No-smoking and Alcohol Smoking is strictly forbidden in all buildings in the Olympic Village. A limited number of clearly marked outdoor smoking areas are available. Consumption of personal alcohol is restricted to private spaces. Food and Beverages Residents are permitted to bring food and drinks into the Olympic Village. For food safety reasons, users of the Main Dining Hall may remove only one drink, one piece of fruit and hand-held food (food that is being consumed at the time). Exceptions will be made on presentation of a certificate: check with your team doctor for details. Quiet Hours Policy Please respect the Olympic Village quiet time from 22:00 to 6:00. 16

18 Food and Beverages For more detailed information, please visit the Athlete365 website Dining Each Village has a dining hall. It is open 24 hours and free of charge with quality food suitable for elite athletes. A menu card in English, French and Korean, featuring pictograms, accompanies all dishes available in the Olympic Villages and provides dietary information for specific menu items. Cold Beverages Cold beverage vending machines serving a range of Coca-Cola products including soft drinks, water, Powerade and orange juice, are located throughout the Olympic Village. McDonald s McDonald s is available in Gangneung Olympic Village. 18
19 Village Plaza For more detailed information, please visit the Athlete365 website The following retail services are provided in each Village Plaza for the convenience of athletes and team officials, as well as guests visiting the Village. Payments will be accepted in cash (Korean Won) or by Visa credit card. Retail services are provided daily from 09:00 to 21:00. Hours will be reduced during the pre-opening on 26 January and the opening on 1 February. Village Café Beverages and light meals are available in the Village Plaza Café for residents. Cafés will be open from 06:00 to 21:00 every day during Village opening. Olympic Store Olympic Stores offer a full range of PyeongChang 2018 licensed merchandise for purchase. Hair and Beauty Salon Salons provide basic hair services such as haircuts and styling for athletes free of charge. Other additional services are provided for a fee. Ticket Sales Offices Tickets may be purchased for sports competitions or ceremonies. Other Services Floral arrangements, courier services, dry cleaning (including tailoring services) and photo services will be available in each Village for a fee. Samsung Galaxy Studio Visit the Samsung Galaxy Studio located in each Olympic Village for any support needed with your new Samsung smartphone. 19
20 Village Plaza Banks and ATMs Banks are located in both Olympic Villages and provide general banking services, including currency exchange, national and international transaction services. A 24-hour ATM is located in each Village Plaza. Cash withdrawals from these machines can be made using Visa cards only. Call Centres Call centres are equipped with telephones for international calls at a cost to the user. Call centre staff are available to provide assistance if required. Internet Centre An Internet Centre is available in the Village Plaza in each of the two Villages. Each Internet Centre will provide computers, a printer, internet access including Wi-Fi and user assistance to athletes and team officials. A shared computer with internet access is located in the Resident Centres. General Store The General Store located in each Village offers a variety of items including hygiene and household products, snacks, beverages, first aid supplies and office supplies. Information Desks The Information Desks in both Villages can provide tourist information about the host region and general information related to the Villages and the Games. Post Office Post offices are located in both Villages and provide sales and services for outgoing domestic and international mail and packages. 20
21 Ceremonies and Events For more detailed information, please visit the Athlete365 website Opening & Closing Ceremonies The Opening Ceremony will be held on 9 February The Closing Ceremony will be held on 25 February Both Ceremonies will take place at the PyeongChang Olympic Stadium in the PyeongChang Olympic Plaza. Victory Ceremonies The Medals Plaza will be located at the PyeongChang Olympic Plaza, a park entirely dedicated to entertainment for the Games. Victory Ceremonies every day from Saturday 10 February to Saturday 24 February at 19:00. In addition, every evening will include great music, delicious food and live entertainment. Team Welcome Ceremonies Team Welcome Ceremonies (TWC) will take place in the Village Plaza of each Olympic Village from 4 to 8 February Each NOC may choose one Olympic Village at which to hold their TWC. 21
22 Entertainment For more detailed information, please visit the Athlete365 website Live Sites The main Live Sites are at the PyeongChang Olympic Plaza and Gangneung Olympic Park. There will be live screenings of Olympic action, cultural events, performances and exhibitions as well as Olympic event try-outs. Throughout February, there will be fixed Live Sites in major cities such as Gwangju, PyeongChang and Gangneung, linked to local festivals. There will also be mobile Live Sites on a nationwide tour of cities like Busan, Daegu and Incheon. Transport: The Olympic Plaza is connected with the Jinbu train station by public shuttle bus services that stop at the PyeongChang Olympic Plaza load/unload zone. The Plaza is also connected to the Gangneung coastal cluster by both railway and road. Access and Tickets: Access to the Olympic Plaza will be permitted with a purchased ticket or a valid accreditation. Accredited athletes and team officials will have free access to the Olympic Plaza during opening hours. WOA Events The World Olympians Association (WOA) is hosting special events for Olympians during PyeongChang Register with the World Olympians Association for information 22

29 Therapeutic Use Exemptions (TUEs) Do you take medication to treat a medical condition? TUEs ensure that you are able to obtain treatment for a legitimate medical condition. As an athlete required to undergo doping control (testing), you must ensure that you do not use anything that is on the List of Prohibited Substances and Methods (the List). If you have an illness or condition that requires the use of a substance that is on the List, you may apply for a TUE authorising you to take the necessary medicine. You will need to obtain the TUE by the deadline of 10 January Your NOC will be able to assist you in applying for a TUE. 30 World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) The World Anti-Doping Agency s (WADA) mission is to lead the worldwide movement for doping-free sport. 38 USE OF PARTICIPANT'S IMAGE Rule 40 Use of a participant s image for advertising purposes during the Olympic Winter Games PyeongChang 2018 Please be aware that there are a number of rules and conditions in place governing your personal sponsorship during the Olympic Games. For example, only Olympic sponsors may use participant images for Olympic-related marketing and communication campaigns. All other entities which are third-party companies and brands may not use participant images in order to create a connection to the Olympic Winter Games PyeongChang 2018 or with a view to benefitting from their appeal. These rules have been put in place so that the Olympic Games are not over-commercialised and the focus can remain on the athletes performance. 40 Authorised Identifications Rule 50 What you need to know as a participant of the Olympic Games A number of rules are in place for athletes regarding the use of identifications (such as trademarks) on clothing, accessories and equipment during the Olympic Games. Rule 50 exists in particular to keep the focus on sport and the athletes, and to ensure that all competition venues and other Olympic venues and sites remain free from advertising, publicity, demonstrations and political, religious and racial propaganda.
