RAY MATTER The Rays have won six consecutive games to return to.500 for the first time since they were 1-1 through March 30 they have passed the Blue Jays for sole possession of 3rd place in the AL East, their highest standing since they were tied for 1st at 1-0 the Rays 6-game winning streak is their 2nd-longest of the season behind an 8-game winning streak from April there have been 14 winning streaks in the majors this season of 6 games or more and the only teams to do it multiple times all play in the AL East: the Yankees, Red Sox and Rays. The Rays are 7-1 in their last 8 games following a 5-game losing streak they are 18-9 in their last 27 games and in their last 29 games after a 3-12 start, which gave them the worst winning pct. in the AL and 2nd-worst in the majors at the time. The Rays have been tied or ahead at the conclusion of all 54 innings during this 6-game winning streak they have led at the conclusion of 42 innings and been tied at the end of 12 innings they haven t trailed since the end of a 17-1 loss on May 13 at BAL. The Rays are 3.5 GB of the Mariners for the second Wild Card. This is the third straight season the Rays have been exactly.500 through games of May 19 (22-22 in 2017, in 2016). SEEKING SWEEP With last night s win, the Rays improved to 7-3 in their last 10 series, compared to 1-4 in their first five today the Rays are attempting to finish their fourth sweep of the season (April vs. MIN, April at BAL, May at KC) their three sweeps already match their total from all of last year if the Rays complete the sweep: It would be their first 4-game sweep since Sep 20-23, 2013 vs. BAL and first 4-game sweep on the road since Aug 16-19, 2012 at LAA. It would be the first time they sweep back-to-back series on the road, regardless of series length, since July 18-23, 2014 at MIN (3-0) and at STL (2-0) it would be the first time they sweep back-to-back series of 3+ games on the road since April 27-28, 2011 at MIN (3-0) and May 6-8, 2011 at BAL (3-0) it would be the first time they sweep back-to-back series of 3+ games on the road and within the same trip since April 12-19, 2010 at BAL (3-0) and at BOS (4-0). It would be the fifth time in club history they record four sweeps before the end of May (five in 2013, four in 2012, six in 2010, four in 2008) and the third time in club history they record three sweeps on the road before the end of May (three in 2011, four in 2010). Three other times previously the Rays have had a chance to sweep and failed to do so, losing each game by 1 run: April 11 at CWS (2-1 loss), April 29 at BOS (4-3 loss) and May 6 vs. TOR (2-1 loss). ROAD RAYGE The Rays are on the road but 14-7 (.667) following an 0-5 start this season the Rays have won six consecutive road games, their longest road winning streak since July 4-23, 2014 at DET/MIN/ STL (8) and their longest within the same road trip since April 12-19, 2010 at BAL/BOS (7) this is the third of four consecutive 3-city road trips to start the season the first time in franchise history the Rays have ever had four consecutive three-city trips the Rays are 7-3 on this road trip to BAL/KC/LAA after going 5-3 on their April 25 May 2 trip to BAL/BOS/ DET, the first time they ve gone better than.500 on back-to-back road trips since May 29 June 7, 2015 (7-3) and June 17-21, 2015 (4-1). With a win today, the Rays would go 8-3 and wrap up their best 3-city road trip since June 27 July 6, 2014 at BAL/NYY/DET (9-2) it would be the 7th-best winning pct. for a 3-city trip in franchise history see page 260 in the Rays Media Guide for the list they have a chance to achieve this despite starting 0-2 on the trip.
