3 The Program The Jr. Excellence Program is designed for the total development of the Junior tennis player. Private lessons provide individual attention. Clinics reinforce the skills learned in the private lesson. Play strategies are emphasized in structured games and during playday matches. Tournament trips are scheduled throughout the year to provide coaching and match analysis. The Jr. Excellence Program provides a total learning environment. Excellence students participate in a weekly program consisting of: One Hour Private Lesson Individual strokes and styles of play are emphasized specific to the students needs. Drill Clinic Instructor controlled drills are used to polish existing strokes, develop movement, and create play situations. An outstanding 4 to 1 instructor ratio assures plenty of individual attention. Team Practice Team practice will emphasize different skills than the drill clinic. Live ball drills, structured games and play situations will be used to develop play strategies and court sense. Two Playdays Students apply what they learned in lessons and clinics to real match situations. Playday is organized and closely monitored by Gary and other staff members. Getting a Lesson Time Please contact your pro as soon as possible to confirm your lesson time. Times will be given out on the following priorities: 1) you have first choice on keeping last year s time 2) returning students who wish to change times 3) new students. Makeup Policy Clinics canceled because of weather will be rescheduled if needed (we have 3 days set aside for rain and tournament misses factored into the cost of the program). If you miss clinic for your own reasons there is no makeup (ie. sickness or minor injury). A full staff is always maintained at clinics. Private lessons must be made up. 4 E X C E L L E N C E J R. D E V E L O P M E N T Rules & Expectations Expectations You are here because you want to want to be here! You are making a commitment to be the best you can be. You have resolved to make a commitment of time and effort to meet your goals. If these are not your goals, you are in the wrong clinic. The Three R s Respect for self, Respect for others, take Team Concept On Time Responsibility for your own actions! All for one --- one for all. We practice as a team we travel as a team, eat as a team and support each other as a team. Your performance and attitude affects others if you work hard, others around you work hard. If you do not give your best effort it is not fair to the others on your court. Support your teammates by hitting with everyone older, younger, better, lower. Generally court assignments are based on ability and ladder position. Periodically consideration is given to age, gender, and social groupings. Placement is also based on effort, attitude, and work ethic. Do not complain about pairings- the law of averages will prevail it s the law. If you have a recurring problem speak to Gary in private at an appropriate time. * Never late. Not 1 second. Penalty = 1 MILE! NO EXCUSSES. Court assignments are made at the beginning of clinic. If you come late it may lead to awkward court assignments for you. If you are permanently late for a recurring reason let Ball Pickup Gary know and we will save a spot for you. Pick first, drink later! Pickup quickly. Remember you are part of a team. In live ball drills, if one picks up, all pickup. Drink Breaks Get quick drinks between drills. Drink when switching courts. Clinic Conduct: First Violation (no warning) 100 step ups. Second Violation 200 step ups. Third Violation suspended from the club for a week and the dreaded parent consultation. A flagrant violation of our rules and expectations could result in an accelerated penalty assessment. Three Strikes And You Are Out any violations going to a third warning will result in suspension from the Club for a week no refund or makeup. Hitting a ball in the direction of another player whether unintentional, in anger, or in fun is a violation. Language violations include the obvious words and the following: sucks, freakin, and sound-a-likes (i.e. ship). Words not found in the Macmillan s Children s Dictionary are illegal. A really bad word will lead to expulsion for the day and a Whining Rule consult with parents before returning. Whining, verbal commentary of how bad you are playing, or negative physical expression is to be considered a violation of our conduct rules. Negative behavior drags all players down and takes all the Leaving Early Other fun out of clinic. Let us know if you need to leave early so we can plan accordingly. Leaving early will require a written excuse from a parent. Report injuries to whoever is in charge and to your individual instructors as you rotate. Do what you can with no whining listen to your body. Bathroom, go before clinic. Borrowing tennis balls from tennis pros is prohibited. The pro shop sells them. A serve bucket is permitted with our blessings. TURN YOUR CELL PHONE OFF, DO NOT BRING IT ON TO THE COURT. PHONES THAT ARE SEEN OR HEARD ON THE COURTS WILL BE CONFISCATED WITH A $10 FINE. Court Behavior Ladder Match Conduct: All USTA Rules apply. Match play will be governed by the USTA Point Penalty System. There is no warning-point, GAME, and MATCH. The finest qualities of sportsmanship and integrity are expected. Cross Court Talking is violation. Talk at appropriate times ball pickup, changing sides, break time. I HAVE READ AND UNDERSTAND THE ABOVE AND WILL WORK FAITHFULLY TO FULLFILL THE EXPECTATIONS ASSOCITED WITH JR. EXCELLENCE. PLEASE RETURN TO GARY NEXT DAY. PARENT SIGNATURE STUDENT SIGNATURE
