1 Spring Catalogue 2018 SPRING 2018 Catalogue 1
2 EXCITING NEW PROOFS FOR SPRING! Welcome to our shortened catalogue for spring Our full catalogue is of course is available online or hard copy by request from the autumn. This catalogue is presented in a new format to highlight the traits that truly matter. It is now more important than ever before to be breeding the most profitable cow possible as profit margins are ever decreasing in our dairy industry. Vikings NTM system gives you the most comprehensive list of profit drivers of any breeding system worldwide, be sure to read in the Viking news the articles on the Langs and Phelans here in Australia, which back up the value of breeding cows with the focus on our health traits. Markus Lang, from Lang Dairies Tatura (1800 cow operation) said I get many more health traits from using Viking sires and it doesn t cost me any extra, its simply more value for my money. Also Bev Phelan, from Deloraine, Tasmania (1100 cow operation) said I have used many bulls from many companies and Viking has been part of that now for 11 years. When I compare statistics on paper my Viking cows are always a level above across the board for all traits including production, fertility, longevity etc. I have not found any area where they drop below the others. NEW TOP PROVEN SIRES This spring catalogue highlights some new movements within the three breeds, be sure to read the sire updates in the Viking news. VH Cosmo was a genomic young sire used here previously and has now graduated to no 1 proven Holstein. Also check out the new proven sire VH Sparky who is such a nice bull in so many areas and his udders are just super. With the reds, VR Tokyo in also a genomic graduate that is impressing, with milking daughters here and also in Scandinavia. Watch this sire as I think he will go on to be a very influential sire here as he adds excellent production and strength. With worldwide demand now for butterfat, look closely at our jersey sires like VJ Huzar whose daughters produce almost 7000 litres at 6.0% fat and 4.3% protein. I hope you like our new format and appreciate our drive to highlight the traits that drive your profits higher into the future. 16 The Real Cost Cutting Cows We have been using VikingHolsteins since 2012 and have achieved improvement in all areas of our 1800 cow herd. Cow health and fertility have improved substantially, with less mastitis, feet and leg problems, and metabolic disorders. The higher cow fertility has now given us a great bank of surplus heifers each year, which has provided another income stream. Our production has increased with substantial gains in fat and protein percentages and cell count is constantly at a premium.
