3 BASIC SAFETY RULES 1. NEVER POINT A FIREARM AT SOMETHING THAT IS NOT SAFE TO SHOOT. 1. Never et the muzze of a firearm point at any part of your body or at another person. This is especiay important when oading or unoading the firearm. When you are shooting at a target, know what is behind it. Some buets can trave over a mie. If you miss your target or if the buet penetrates the target, it is your responsibiity to ensure that the shot does not cause unintended injury or damage. 3. STORE YOUR FIREARM SO THAT CHILDREN CANNOT GAIN ACCESS TO IT. 3. It is your responsibiity to insure that chidren under the age of 18 or other unauthorized persons do not gain access to your firearm. To reduce the risk of accidents invoving chidren, unoad your firearm, ock it and store the ammunition in a separate ocked ocation. Pease note that devices intended to prevent accidents - for exampe, cabe ocks, chamber pugs, etc, - may not prevent use or misuse of your firearm by a determined person. Stee gun safes may be more appropriate to reduce the ikeihood of intentiona misuse of a firearm by an unauthorized chid or person. 2. ALWAYS TREAT A FIREARM AS IF IT WERE LOADED. 2. Never assume that a firearm is unoaded. The ony certain way to ensure that a firearm is empty is to open the chamber and visuay examine the inside to see if a round is present. Removing the magazine wi not guarantee that a pisto is unoaded or cannot fire. Shotguns and rifes can be checked by cycing or removing a rounds and by then opening the chamber so that a visua inspection of the chamber for any remaining rounds can be made. 4. NEVER SHOOT AT WATER OR AT A HARD SURFACE. 4. Shooting at the surface of water or at a rock or other hard surface increases the chance of ricochets or fragmentation of the buet or shot, which can resut in the projectie striking an unintended or periphera target. 5. KNOW THE SAFETY FEATURES OF THE FIREARM YOU ARE USING, BUT REMEMBER: SAFETY DEVICES ARE NOT A SUBSTITUTE FOR SAFE HAN- DLING PROCEDURES. 5. Never rey soey on a safety device to prevent an accident. It is imperative that you know and use the safety features of the particuar firearm you are handing, but accidents can best be prevented by foowing the safe handing procedures described in these safety rues and esewhere in the product manua. To further famiiarize yoursef with the proper use of this or other firearms, take a Firearms Safety Course taught by an expert in firearms use and safety procedures. 4 5

4 6. PROPERLY MAINTAIN YOUR FIREARM. 6. Store and carry your firearm so that dirt or int does not accumuate in the working parts. Cean and oi your firearm, foowing the instructions provided in this manua, after each use to prevent corrosion, damage to the barre or accumuation of impurities which can prevent use of the gun in an emergency. Aways check the barre prior to oading to ensure that it is cean and free from obstructions. Firing against an obstruction can rupture the barre and injure yoursef or others nearby. In case you hear an unusua noise when shooting, stop firing immediatey, ingage the manua safety and unoad the firearm. Make sure the chamber is free from any obstruction or possibe buet bocked inside the barre due to defective or improper ammunition. 7. USE PROPER AMMUNITION. 7. Ony use factory-oaded, new ammunition manufactured to industry specifications: CIP (Europe and esewhere), SAAMI (U.S.A.). Be certain that each round you use is in the proper caiber or gauge and type for the particuar firearm. The caiber or gauge of the firearm is ceary marked on the barres of shotguns and on the side or barre of pistos. The use of reoaded or remanufactured ammunition can increase the ikeihood of excessive cartridge pressures, casehead ruptures or other defects in the ammunition which can cause damage to your firearm and injury to yoursef or others nearby. 8. ALWAYS WEAR PROTECTIVE GLASSES AND EARPLUGS WHEN SHOOT- ING. 8. The chance that gas, gunpowder or meta fragments wi bow back and injure a shooter who is firing a gun is rare, but the injury that can be sustained in such circumstances is severe, incuding the possibe oss of eyesight. A shooter must aways wear impact resistant shooting gasses when firing any firearm. Earpugs hep reduce the chance of hearing damage from shooting. 10. AVOID ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES OR JUDG- MENT OR REFLEX IMPAIRING MEDICATION WHEN SHOOTING. 10. Do not drink and shoot. If you take medication that can impair motor reactions or judgment, do not hande a firearm whie you are under the infuence of the medication. 11. NEVER TRANSPORT A LOADED FIREARM. 11. Unoad a firearm before putting it in a vehice. Hunters and target shooters shoud oad their firearm ony at their destination. If you carry a firearm for sef-protection, eaving the chamber unoaded can reduce the chance of accidenta discharge. 12. LEAD WARNING. 11. Discharging firearms in poory ventiated areas, ceaning firearms, or handing ammunition may resut in exposure to ead and other substances known to cause birth defects, reproductive harm, and other serious physica injury. Have adequate ventiation at a times. Wash hands thoroughy after exposure. 9. NEVER CLIMB A TREE, FENCE OR OBSTRUC- TION WITH A LOADED FIREARM. 9. Open and empty the chamber of your firearm before cimbing or descending a tree or before cimbing a fence or jumping over a ditch or obstruction. Never pu or push a oaded firearm toward yoursef or another person. 6 7

6 DESCRIPTION The AL391 Urika semi-automatic shotgun, 12 and 20 gauge, comes with the foowing features: STREAMLINED RECEIVER DESIGN The skifuy rounded shape of the receiver promotes instinctive and quick target acquisition. The matted anti-gare back-finish of the upper and ower parts of the receiver highight the bright finish of the sides to confer to the Beretta AL391 Urika a new appearance and distinctive character. GAS OPERATION SYSTEM WITH EXHAUST VALVE The unique gas operation system, with gas cyinder and sef ceaning piston, is provided with a sef-ceaning exhaust vave which automaticay expes the excess gas of the most powerfu cartridges: The resut is that the shotgun, without any adjustment, fires everything from the ight 24 gr. (7/8 oz.) oads to the powerfu 57 gr. (2 oz.) 3 Magnum 12 ga. shotshes. The exhaust vave assemby remains attached to the gas cyinder, thus aowing easy and quick disassemby and reassemby of the shotgun. STOCK The stock is designed to accept either a pastic butt-pate or a rubber recoi pad without any adjustment. By assembing rubber recoi pads of different thicknesses, one can modify the ength of pu. STOCK DROP AND CAST SPACERS The design of the fiber-gass reinforced technopoymer receiver - stock spacer and of the stock meta pate aows one to adjust the stock drop and cast by simpy modifying their assemby position. Different stock drop and cast dimensions can be obtained using the extra set of spacers suppied. ACCESSORIES The AL391 Urika is suppied with a modern design case and a compement of accessories: 1-round magazine capacity reducer pug, spare recoi pad, stock drop and cast spacers, grip cap (wood stock fied modes ony), stock swives (fied modes ony), 25 m. Beretta Gun Oi, vave hook wrenches and, for Mobichoke versions, a set of 5 choke tubes with specia spanner. RECOIL DAMPER The eastic recoi damper reduces stress from the impact of the breech bot on the receiver and absorbs part of the vibrations normay transmitted to the shooter. NOTICE: The AL391 Urika barres are not interchangeabe with those of former modes (AL 390, A 390 ST, A 304 etc.) TRIGGER PLATE The high strength fiber-gass reinforced technopoymer trigger pate offers many advantages: Sef-ceaning property, high absorption of vibrations and more comfort to the touch in cod weather conditions. The arge opening of the trigger guard aows the use of goves. CUT-OFF DEVICE The cut-off contro is positioned on the eft side of the receiver: It can be engaged when the breech bot is positioned in the cosed position with the use of one hand. If the cut-off is accidentay eft engaged, automatic reoading after the first shot wi disengage it. (Fig. 35) MAGAZINE CAPACITY The magazine tube capacity of the AL391 Urika (which has a three-round capacity) has been imited to two rounds by the appication of a pug in order to compy with the sporting gun aws in force in many countries. This pug, which is factory mounted, reduces the capacity of the AL391 Urika to no more than three rounds (two in the magazine, one in the chamber). In some areas, shooting is aowed ony with shotguns having a capacity of no more than two rounds. To use the AL391 Urika in these areas, it wi be necessary to imit the magazine capacity to ony one round. It is possibe to increase the magazine capacity from two to three rounds in the countries where it is aowed. NOTICE: These operations must be carried out by a competent gunsmith. NOTICE: Whoesaers, deaers or gunsmiths (uness they are a Repair Station authorized by the Manufacturer and/or by its Loca Officia Distributors) are not authorized to make any Warranty repair or adjustment on behaf of the Manufacturer. MOBILCHOKE TUBES NOTICE: Beretta Mobichoke SP (Stee-Proof) screw-in chokes tubes have been speciay designed to take the punishment of non-toxic stee shot. For best resuts with stee shot, Beretta recommends a modified choke. Fu choke constriction when using stee shot does not increase pattern density and often distorts norma pattern density associated with ead. Remember that standard od type Beretta Mobichoke tubes were not designed for stee shot. Before shooting stee shot cartridges check that the Beretta Mobichoke tubes are marked SP. CHANGING AND CLEANING THE CHOKES WARNING: Check that the firearm is unoaded (cartridge chamber empty, receiver empty, magazine tube empty). Check that the firearm is unoaded by ooking through the ejection port, the oading gate and the chamber. If the shotgun is not unoaded, unoad it as described in the chapter Unoading the firearm. Lower the hammer on the unoaded gun by puing the trigger. WARNING: Never ook into the muzze or change tubes on a oaded gun even with safety engaged. WARNING: Never point a firearm at someone or at hard and fat surfaces. Treat the firearm as if it were oaded. (See points 1, 2 and 4 of the BASIC SAFETY RULES). Unscrew (countercockwise) the choke using the suppied spanner. (Fig. 39) Carefuy cean the choke housing. If necessary, use a patch sprayed with Beretta gun oi. Carefuy dry the choke housing using a soft patch. Insert the desired choke into the choke housing, checking that it is perfecty cean inside and outside. (Fig. 40) Manuay screw on (cockwise) the choke. Tighten it with the mutipe spanner. WARNING: During the hunting or shooting day, under safe conditions (firearms unoaded with cartridge chamber empty, receiver empty, magazine empty and breech bot in OPEN position) check whether the choke has worked oose. Shoud this happen, the choke must be tightened again using the suppied spanner. 22 WARNING: Remember that you shoud never use a Mobichoke barre without a Mobichoke tube inserted. Shooting without the choke tube is dangerous and can damage the barre s interna screw thread irreparaby. 23

13 STOCK DROP AND CAST MODIFICATION The Beretta AL391 Urika semi-automatic shotgun is factory set with a hee drop of 55 or 60 mm. (2.16 or 2.36 ) (fied, sporting, skeet modes), of 40 mm. (1.57 ) (trap modes) and cast-off (right-handed shooters). The components which determine the drop and the cast are: Receiver-stock spacer made of technopoymer, fiber-gass reinforced. Stock meta pate. Both the spacer and the pate are designed to secure two different drops with cast-off or with cast-on (for eft handed shooters) depending on how they are assembed. Other measures of stock drop can be obtained using the suppied extra set of spacers. CHANGING THE STOCK DROP AND CAST SPACERS NOTICE: The DX mark on the spacer and on the pate means cast-off, the SX mark means cast-on. The stock drop measures are in miimetres. The stock drop and cast of the spacer must aways correspond to those of the meta pate. NOTICE: Stock drop and cast modification must be carried out by a competent gunsmith. NECESSARY TOOLS Screwdriver. Hexagona tube spanner (13 mm). Torque wrench (suggested). WARNING: Check that the firearm is unoaded (cartridge chamber empty, receiver empty, magazine tube empty).
