3 Requirements A Brief Overview of Academic Achievement Requirements Under the No Child Left Behind Act () of 2001, states and school districts are required to make annual Adequate Yearly Progress () determinations for districts and schools, respectively. The ultimate goal of is to have all students proficient in reading and math by the year Annual Assessments Each year, students in grades 3-10 take annual assessments as required by the state. Adequate Yearly Progress () Adequate Yearly Progress is the minimum level of proficiency that school districts and schools must achieve each year as determined under the No Child Left Behind Act. To make, a school and district must meet the required participate rate, the annual measurable objectives in language arts and math, and the other academic indicator. The terms are defined below. Annual Measurable (AMO) AMO is the percent of students who must be proficient on the above exams as required by the state. Not only must the school as a whole meet the AMO, but each specified subgroup of students must also meet the AMO. The goal of is to have all students be proficient in language arts and math by Participation 95% of all students, grades 3-10, must participate in state exams. This is determined both by school and by state-identified subgroup. Subgroups of 20 or fewer are not considered for determinations. Average Daily Elementary and middle schools must meet an average daily attendance rate. s with 12th grade must meet the graduation rate. Other Academic Indicator s must meet the other academic indicator in order to meet. In this section, we provide a brief overview of each state s letter grade system. The grading system gives parents and others an understandable measure of how a school is performing. Arizona and New Mexico implemented the letter grade system to demonstrate a schools progress and how different schools measure-up. The Arizona grading system was implemented in 2010 by the Arizona state legislature and New Mexico was implemented in 2011 by the New Mexico lawmakers.
