3 GENERAL SAFETY RULES READ ALL INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY! WARNING: This symbol indicates important safety instructions. If these instructions are not followed, it could endanger the personal safety and/or property of the operator and others. Read and understand all instructions in this manual before attempting to operate the mower. Failure to comply with these instructions may result in personal injury. DANGER: This mower was built to be operated according to the rules for safe operation that are contained in this manual. As with any type of power equipment, carelessness or error on the part of the operator can result in serious injury. This mower is capable of amputating body parts and throwing objects. Failure to observe the following safety rules could result in serious injury or death. Basic safety precautions should always be followed when using electric lawn mowers, in order to reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, and personal injury. DANGER In order to reduce the risk of electric shock, do not expose the mower to water or operate it on wet ground. Replace any damaged power cord immediately. In order to avoid serious injury or death, disconnect the mower from the electrical outlet before servicing or removing the blade. WARNING: Use of this mower should be restricted to individuals who have read and understoood and will follow the warnings and instructions that are printed in this manual and on the mower.. Carefully read all instructions on the mower and in the manual before attempting to assemble and operate the mower. Keep this manual in a safe place for future reference, and consult it regularly.. Become familiar with all controls and their proper operation. Know how to stop the mower and how to disengage the power in an emergency. 3. Do not allow children under the age of 4 to operate this mower. Children who are 4 years of age and older must read and understand the operating instructions and safety rules in this manual, and must be trained and supervised by a parent. 4. in order to avoid contact with the blade or injury caused by a thrown object, stay in the operator zone behind the handles, and keep children and bystanders at least 75' (0 m) away from the mower while it is in operation. Stop the motor immediately if someone enters the mowing area. 5. Thoroughly inspect the area where the equipment is to be used. Remove all stones, sticks, wire, bones, toys, and other foreign objects that could be tripped over or thrown by the blade. Thrown objects can cause serious personal injury

4 6. Plan your mowing pattern in such a way as to avoid discharging material toward roads, sidewalks, bystanders, etc. Don not discharge material against a wall or obstruction. Doing so may cause the discharged material to ricochet back toward the operator. 7. Always wear proper eye protection in order to protect your eyes while operating or performing any adjustment or repair. Thrown objects that ricochet can cause serious eye injury. 8. Always wear a face mask or a dust mask when operating the mower in a dusty environment. 9. Dress properly. Do not wear loose clothing or jewelery that can get caught in moving parts. The wearing of protective gloves and safety footwear is recommended. 0. Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI) protection should be provided on the circuit(s) or outlet(s) that will be used to charge the lawn mower battery. Outlets with built-in GFCI protection are available, and may be used as an added measure of safety.. Many injuries occur as a result of the mower being pulled over the operator's foot during a fall caused by slipping or tripping. Do not operate this mower in bare feet, or while wearing sandals or lightweight (e.g.: canvas) shoes. Do not hold on to the mower if you are falling. Release the handle immediately.. Never pull the mower back toward you while you are walking. If you must back the mower away from a wall or an obstruction, first look down and behind in order to avoid tripping, and then follow these steps: Step back from the mower in order to fully extend your arms. Be sure that you are well balanced. Pull the mower back slowly. 4. Do not use mower for any job except that for which it is intended. Do not force the mower. 5. Do not operate the mower while under the influence of alcohol or drugs. 6. Stay Alert: Do not operate the mower when you are tired. Pay attention to what you are doing. Use common sense. 7. Do not put hands or feet near rotating parts or under the cutting deck. Contact with the blade can amputate hands and feet. 8. Do not attempt to adjust the wheels or the cutting height while the motor is running. 9. Avoid dangerous environments. Do not operate the mower in the rain or in wet or damp grass. 0. Mow only in daylight or in good artificial light. Do not rush a mowing job.. Stop the blade when crossing gravel driveways, walkways, or roads.. If the mover starts to vibrate abnormally, stop the motor and check for the cause immediately. Vibration is generally a warning of trouble. 3. Stop the motor and wait until the blade comes to a complete stop before removing the grass catcher or unclogging the chute. The cutting blade will continue to rotate for a few seconds after the motor is shut off. Do not place any part of your body in the blade area until you are sure that the blade has stopped rotating. 4. Never operate mower without a proper trail shield, discharge cover, grass catcher, blade/motor control, or other safety protective devices in place and in working order. Do not operate the mower with damaged safety devices. Doing so can result in injury

5 CHILD SAFETY Tragic accidents can occur if the operator is not aware of the presence of children. Keep children out of the mowing area and under the watchful care of a responsible adult. Stay alert, and turn the mower off if a child or any other person enters the mowing area. Look behind and down for small children before and while moving backwards. Use extreme care when approaching blind corners, doorways, shrubs, trees, or other objects that may obscure your vision of a child who may run into the path of the mower. Do not allow children under the age of 4 to operate this mower. Children who are 4 years of age and older must read and understand the operating instructions and safety rules in this manual, and must be trained and supervised by a parent. SERVICE. When servicing the mower, use only replacement parts that are available from the manufacturer. In order to obtain replacement parts, call customer service, at The use of parts that do not meet the original equipment specifications may lead to improper performance, and may compromise safety.. Before cleaning, repairing, or inspecting, verify that the blade and all moving parts have come to a complete stop, and remove the safety key. In order to prevent accidental start-ups, remove the safety key when the mower is not in use. 3. Follow the instructions for lubricating and changing accessories. 4. Keep the handles dry, clean, and free of oil and grease. 5. In order to reduce the risk of fire, keep the motor free of grass, leaves, and debris build-up. 6. Check the blade and motor mounting bolts for proper tightness frequently. Visually inspect blade for damage (e.g.: bent, cracked, or worn). 7. For best and safest performance, maintain the mower with care. Keep the mower blade sharp and clean. Mower blades are sharp, and can cut. Wrap the blades or wear gloves, and use extra caution when servicing. 8. Keep all nuts, bolts, and screws tight in order to be sure tjat the equipment is in safe working condition. 9. Never tamper with safety devices. Check them regularly for proper operation. 0. After striking a foreign object, stop the motor and remove the safety key. Thoroughly inspect the mower for any damage. Repair any damage before operating the mower.. The grass catcher components, discharge cover, and trail shield are subject to wear and damage, which could expose moving parts or allow objects to be thrown. As a safety precaution, check the components frequently, and immediately replace any parts that show signs of wear, or that are cracked or broken. Use original equipment manufacturer's (OEM) parts only, as listed in this manual.. When it is not in use, store the mower indoors in a dry area, with the safety key removed, and out of the reach of children

6 BATTERY & CHARGER CAUTION: USE ONLY YARDWORKS APPROVED REPLACEMENT BATTERIES, OTHER BATTERIES MAY CAUSE INJURY OR DAMAGE TO THE MOWER. The battery that is supplied with this mower is a maintenance-free, sealed, 4 V storage battery. It can be tipped without danger of acid spillage. The charger will require approximately 0 hours to recharge a fully discharged battery. BATTERY SAFETY RULES Allow at least 0 hours of battery charging before using the mower for the first time. For optimal performance, charge the battery every two weeks, even when it is not in use. Charge the battery in a cool, dry place. The battery does not have to be fully discharged before recharging. This battery will not develop a memory. to 3 initial charging/discharging cycles may be required in order to reach the maximum run time/capacity. When it is fully charged, the battery can be stored in temperatures as low as 3 F ( 5 C) for a period of up to two weeks before it requires recharging. PROPER BATTERY CARE OFF-Season storage It is recommended that the battery be charged every two weeks when it is not in use, in order to maintain cell life expectancy. If possible, store the battery indoors, in a location where the temperature is between 50 and 85 F (between 0 and 30 C). If all of the following conditions are met, the mower can be stored with the charger disconnected.. The mower is fully charged before storing.. The average temperature of the storage location is below 50 F (0 C). 3. The battery will not be stored for more than 6 months. CHARGER SAFETY RULES Charge the mower battery in a dry area that is protected from the weather. Do not expose the mower or the charger to rain. Do not charge the battery in a wet location. Operate the battery charger in temperatures between 3 and 04 F ( 5 and 40 C). In order to reduce the risk of electric shock, use only the charger provided by the manufacturer to charge the battery. DO NOT ABUSE THE CHARGE CORD. Never carry the charger by the cord. Do not disconnect the charger from the outlet or from the mower by pulling the charger cord. Do not service the mower with the charger connected or with the safety key installed. Do not use a damaged charger. Replace the charger cords or the charger immediately. Keep the mower and the charger away from water, heat sources (radiators, heaters, stoves, etc.), flames, and chemicals

Inspect the parts carefully in order to verify that no breakage or damage occurred during shipping Do not discard the packing material until all parts have been examined. If any parts are damaged or missing, call for assistance.. Remove any packing material that may have been inserted between the upper and lower handles for shipping purposes.. Align the holes (4) on the upper handle () with the holes on the middle handle (). Insert the bolts (5), and use the wing nuts (6) to tighten them. 3. Align the holes (7) on the middle handle () and the lower handle (3). Insert the bolts (5), and tighten them using the wing nuts (6) provided. 8 INSTALLING THE GRASS CATCHER ASSEMBLY. Stop the mower, wait until the blade comes to a complete stop, and then remove the safety key.. Insert the handle of the grass catcher () into the grooves () at the back of the mower. 9 OPERATION CHARGING PROCEDURE. Remove the safety key from the switch on the mower.. Disconnect the battery from the motor clip attachment. 3. The battery can be charged in or out of the mower. 4. Plug the charger connector into the jack on the mower battery. 5. Plug the charger into a polarized household outlet. The charging light and the power light will light up. When the battery is fully charged, the charging light will change from red to green. Note: When the charger is unplugged from the outlet, the charger connector must also be unplugged from the battery, or else the battery will discharge itself through the charger. Note: For optimum performance, it is recommended that the mower be charged every two weeks when it is not in use. Cold weather can shorten the battery life if the battery is not charged every weeks during the winter season. It is recommended that the battery be removed from the mower and stored in a dry location, at temperatures between 5 and 5 C (40 and 75 F). The right side is the Charging (RED), and Fully Charged (GREEN) indicator. Push the Battery Capacity Indicator (BCI) switch, which is located on the top of the battery. The lights will indicate the battery's capacity, according the following chart. Charger Green Green Green Amber Red BCI switch LIGHTS 3 green lights green lights green lights Amber light Red light INDICATS The battery is at full capacity The battery is at 80% capacity The battery is at 60% capacity The battery is at 40% capacity, and requires charging soon The battery is at 0% capacity, and requires charging immediately THE FOLLOWING SUGGESTIONS WILL HELP TO OBTAIN OPTIMUM RUNTIME FROM THE BATTERY-POWERED MOWER.. Slow down in areas where the grass is very long or thick.. When mulching, avoid cutting more than / (4 cm) at a time. 3. Avoid mowing the grass when it is wet from rain or dew. 4. Mow the lawn frequently, especially during high-growth periods. NOTE: Under normal conditions, this mower will run for approximately 50 to 60 minutes on a single charge, and will cut up to 8,000 sq. ft. USE ONLY A YARDWORKS REPLACEMENT BATTERY (60-5-)

10 STARTING THE MOWER OPERATION SAFETY KEY: In order to prevent accidental start-up or unauthorized use of the Storage Operating battery-operated mower, a removable safety key has been incorporated into the design of the mower. The mower is completely disabled when the safety key is removed from the mower NOTE: THE SAFETY KEY HAS A HOLE THROUGH THE Safety key Safety key CENTRE THAT ALLOWS FOR STORAGE ON A HOOK, OUT OF THE REACH OF CHILDREN. CAUTION: ALWAYS REMOVE THE SAFETY KEY FROM THE MOWER WHEN THE MOWER IS LEFT UNATTENDED. TO START THE MOWER: Carefully follow the illustration below, in order, when starting the mower.. Insert the safety key.. Push the safety tab out in order to expose the lever. 3. Pull the lever up in order to start the mower. 4. To stop the mower, release the lever, and then remove the safety key. CAUTION: Do not attempt to override the operation of the safety key or lever. WARNING: The operation of any mower can result in foreign objects being thrown into the eyes, which can cause severe eye damage. Always wear safety glasses while operating the mower and while performing any adjustments or repairs. WARNING: Ensure that other people and pets remain at least 00' (30 m) away when the mower is in use. INSPECT THE CUTTING AREA Remove all stones, sticks, wire, bones, and other debris that might be thrown by the rotating blades. CIRCUIT BREAKER: If the motor of the battery-powered mower is overloaded for an extended period of time, it may become hot. If this happens, the circuit breaker will switch the motor off in order to protect it from overheating. The mower can be restarted after waiting approximately 5-0 minutes

11 ADJUSTING THE CUTTING HEIGHT OPERATION DANGER: This cutting tool can cause injuries. Remove the safety key before adjusting the cutting height.. The cutting height can be set between 3/4 and 3/4 (4.5 and 7 cm).. Pull the the adjustment levers () on both sides toward the back LOW wheels (), one at the time, in order to set the mower to the highest cutting position. HIGH 3. Push the the adjustment levers () on both sides toward the front wheels (3) in order to set the mower to the lowest cutting position Other cutting heights can be achieved by moving the adjustors to one of the stop positions between the highest and lowest positions. NOTE: The two height adjustors MUST be set to the same position. SLOPE GAUGE & OPERATION WARNING: Slopes are a major factor related to accidents involving slips and falls, which can result in severe injury. Operating the mower on a slope requires extra caution. If you feel uneasy on a slope, do not mow it. For your safety, use the slope gauge that is included as part of this manual to measure slopes before operating this unit on a sloped or hilly area.. Mow across the face of a slope, and never up and down. Exercise extreme caution when changing direction on a slope.. Watch for holes, ruts, rocks, hidden objects, or bumps that may cause a slip or a trip. Tall grass can hide obstacles. 3. Always be sure of your footing. If you feel like you are losing your balance, release the blade/motor control handle immediately. The blade will stop rotating within 3 seconds. 4. Do not mow near drop-offs, ditches, or embankments, because you could lose your footing or balance. 5. Do not mow a slope that has an angle of greater than 5, as determined using the slope gauge. 6. Do not mow wet or damp grass. Unstable footing can cause slipping. SLOPE GAUGE Use this page as a guide in order to identify slopes that cannot be mowed safely. SIGHT AND HOLD THIS EDGE LEVEL WITH A VERTICAL TREE FOLD ON THE DOTTED LINE. THIS REPRESENTS A SLOPE OF 5 - -

12 MAINTENANCE WARNING: Stop the motor, remove the safety key, and disconnect the negative terminal of the battery before cleaning, lubricating, or performing any repairs or maintenance on the mower. WARNING: Always protect your hands by wearing heavy gloves and/or wrapping cutting edges with rags or other materials when performing any blade maintenance. Be sure to disconnect the NEGATIVE SIDE OF THE BATTERY. Readjusting the Cutting Mechanism The cutting gear of the mower was adjusted to the optimal setting before leaving the factory. If a clean cut of the grass is no longer possible after many uses, or if the blade roller contacts the lower blade, then the lower blade should be adjusted as follows: 4 3. Move the switch key and disconnect the battery and remove it from the mower.. Turn the mower upside down to have both wheels free. 3. Clean the reel assembly before making adjustments. 4. Check the cylinder () and the lower blade () for notches, and remove them with a grindstone if necessary. 5. Use an internal hexagon wrench (3/6" - 5 mm) to turn the internal hexagon screws (3) counter-clockwise until the cylinder () turns freely. 6. Continue to turn the cylinder until the blade () is just above the lower blade () on the right side. 7. Continue to turn the cylinder until the blade () is just above the lower blade () on the left side. 8. Use an internal hexagon wrench (3/6" - 5 mm) to tighten the internal hexagon screw (3) 9. Rotate the cylinder (). If a banging noise is produced during this step, loosen the internal hexagon screw (3) slightly on the side that is affected. When the cylinder and the l ower blade can barely be heard touching each other, the cutting mechanism has been adjusted correctly. 0. Cutting test: Place a strip of paper (4) against the lower blade () in such a way that it points toward the spindle of the cylinder ().. Turn the cylinder () carefully. If the lower blade () is set correctly, the paper will be cut as if with a scissors.. Repeat the cutting test for the other blades (). - -

13 CLEANING THE MOWER Follow these steps in order to prepare the tool for storage. Verify that the safety key is removed and stored in a safe place. Clean the tool and connect it to the charger. Store the tool in a clean, dry location. Do not store it next to corrosive materials, such as fertilizer or rock salt. Store the tool indoors, in a cool, dry place, out of the reach of children. Do not cover the tool with a solid plastic sheet. Plastic coverings trap moisture around the tool, which causes rust and corrosion. The battery should be charged every two weeks, even when it is not in use. If the battery is completely discharged after an extended storage period without being recharged, it will achieve full efficiency again after several charging cycles. The battery contains lead cells. After their lifetime has expired, they cannot be disposed of in the same manner as normal household trash, but must be disposed of properly. MAINTENANCE DANGER: THIS CUTTING TOOL CAN CAUSE INJURIES. BEFORE PERFORMING ANY MAINTENANCE, REMOVE THE SAFETY KEY, WAIT FOR THE CUTTING MECHANISM TO COME TO A COMPLETE STOP, AND WEAR SUITABLE WORK GLOVES. WARNING: DAMAGE TO THE BATTERY-POWERED MOWER. DO NOT CLEAN THE BATTERY-POWERED MOWER USING RUNNING WATER, AND ESPECIALLY WATER UNDER HIGH PRESSURE. Deposits affect the effectiveness of the cutting and the discharge of grass clippings. Residual dirt and grass is easily removed immediately after mowing..remove grass deposits using a brush and a cloth..oil the red cutting mechanism lightly, using low viscosity oil (e.g.: sprayed oil). STORAGE The handle can be folded away completely for storage. Be sure not to bend or kink the power cord

14 TROUBLESHOOTING Problem Abnormal noise. Clattering inside the mower. The motor will not start. Possible Cause(s) Loose screws / components. Foreign substances on the blade. Notches in the blade. The blades are striking each other too hard. The key is not inserted. The circuit breaker has been triggered. Solution Tighten the screws. Remove the foreign substances. Remove the notches with a grindstone. Adjust the cutting mechanism. Insert the key into the socket. Wait approx. 5-0 minutes, and then restart the mower. The motor jams and makes noise. The motor is blocked by a foreign body. The cutting load too high.. Turn the mower off,. Remove the key. 3. Remove the foreign body. Reduce the mowing speed and/or raise the cutting height. The motor turns off. The selected cutting height is too low. The circuit breaker has been triggered. Let the motor cool for 5-0 minutes, and then use the mower with a higher cutting height and reduce the cutting height in stages until the desired cutting height is reached. The mower runs unevenly, and vibrates significantly. The cutting tool is damaged. The blade is very dirty. Have the cutting tool checked by a qualified professional or call the toll-free Helpline, at Clean the blade. The mower cuts unevenly. The blade is not set correctly. The cutting mechanism is dull. The grass is too long. Adjust the cutting mechanism. Recommendation: Have the cutting mechanism reground. See mowing tips

15 WARRANTY For TWO YEARS from the date of purchase within Canada, YARDWORKS CANADA will, at its option, repair or replace for the original purchaser, free or charge, any part or parts found to be defective in material or workmanship. This warranty does not cover:. Any part which has become inoperative due to misuse, commercial use, abuse, neglect, accident, improper maintenance or alteration; or. The unit, if it has not been operated and/or maintained in accordance with the owner's manual;or 3. Normal wear, except as noted below; 4. Routine maintenance items such as lubricants, blade sharpening; 5. Normal deterioration of the exterior finish due to use or exposure. 6. Battery carries a one () year warranty against defects in workmanship and materials. Full One Hundred Twenty Days Warranty on Normal Wear Parts: Normal wear parts are defined as blade adaptors, blades, grass bags and tires. These parts are warranted to the original purchaser to be free from defects in material and workmanship for a period of one hundred twenty (0) days from the date of retail purchase. How to Obtain Service: Warranty service is available, with proof of purchase, through the Toll Free Helpline at The factory will not accept the return of a complete unit unless prior written permission has been extended by YARDWORKS CANADA. Transportation Charges: Transportation charges for the movement of any power equipment unit or attachment are the responsibility of the purchaser. The purchaser must pay transportation charges for any part submitted for replacement under this warranty unless such return is requested in writing by YARDWORKS CANADA. Other Warranties: All other warranties, express or implied, including any implied warranty of merchantability is limited in its duration to that set forth in this express limited warranty. The provisions as set forth in this warranty provide the sole and exclusive remedy of YARDWORKS CANADA obligations arising from the sale of its products.
