After four scoreless innings to start, the Birds plated three runs in the fifth, highlighted by a solo home run by Austin Anderson. The club added three more in the next inning. After loading the bases, Power starter Bret Helton forced in a pair of runs with a walk and a hit batter. The Birds finished their scoring in the frame with a sacrifice fly to make it 6-0. That lead would stick as the Power offense could not muster much resistance against Delmarva starter Brian Gonzalez who earned his seventh win. Mike Burke worked the final three innings to pick up his first save of the year as the Birds clinched at least the series win with the victory. TOGETHER FOREVER: The Power play nine of the their next 15 games against the Delmarva Shorebirds, including the final game of the current four game series. The Birds have captured the first three series of the year between the two clubs and have won eight of the first ten meetings. The right-hander blanked Augusta in seven innings on July 12 and limited Rome to three hits during his last start in the club s 2-0 win over the Braves, the last victory by the Power before their current five-game losing streak. SKIDDING: West Virginia s five game losing streak is their second longest skid of the season. The Power dropped six consecutive games from July 4 to July 9. BYE BYE JULY: With the three straight losses to open up the series, the Power guaranteed themselves a losing record in the month of July, falling to After going 15-7 in April, the club has not had a winning record in a single month, going in May and in June. HITS THE SPOT: Yunior Montero made his second spot start this season and fourth overall for the Power in the nightcap Friday. The 23 year-old received a no decision after giving up two runs in four and a third innings, while striking out a career-high eight. Tanner Anderson and Billy Roth have also made spot starts for West Virginia this season. UNDER AND OVER: With the loss on Saturday night, the Power fell to overall, tied for the lowest amount of games the club has been below.500. The club was after a loss to Lakewood on July 9. VIVA VIVAS: After throwing four and a third shutout innings of relief in game on Friday, Julio Vivas has thrown 14 consecutive scoreless innings dating back to July 10 at Lakewood. The right-hander tied his season high in longest appearance and strikeouts with six. POWER POINTS: Logan Sendelbach had the shortest outing of the year by a Power starter, lasting just two thirds of an inning in game one of Friday s doubleheader... On July 25 at Rome, Carlos Munoz became the first Power player since Connor Joe in 2015 to walk four times in a single game... Logan Hill had his first four hit game of the season and eighth overall by a Power player in the series finale against Rome Tuesday. AROUND THE ORGANIZATION: Milwaukee downed Pittsburgh 5-3. Jameson Taillon took the loss while Gregory Polanco hit his 14th home run of the season... Norfolk knocked off Indianapolis Kyle Lobstein made the start and surrendered eight runs in four innings... Altoona s game with Trenton was postponed. The two teams will play a doubleheader Sunday... Bradenton doubled up Daytona Austin Coley earned his eleventh win and Chase Simpson hit his seventh home run... Auburn won a walk-off 3-2 over the Black Bears.
