The Rockies went against the NL West, three more wins than they recorded against the division in 2015 (32-44) and their most since 2014 (36-40)... went on the road this season, their best road record since going in the.407 road winning percentage is tied for the ninth-highest in franchise history. ROCKIES 2016 PITCHING The Rockies pitching staff accumulated a 4.91 ERA (1,429.1 IP, 779 ER), their ninth-lowest in franchise history... their 1,223 strikeouts (7.70 strikeoutsper-nine innings) were the second-most in franchise history (most: 1,234 in 2010), and their 547 walks issued (3.44 walks-per-nine innings) were their ninth-fewest in franchise history... opponents batted.257 (1,405-for-5,459) against the Rockies, the fifth-lowest opponent average in franchise history and the lowest since 2011 (.265)... their 1.45 WHIP was their eighth-lowest in franchise history and their lowest since 2014 (1.44). NOLAN NATION Rockies All-Star third baseman Nolan Arenado played a career-high 160 games (tied for most in the NL) and finished the season tied for most home runs in the NL (41) while his 133 runs batted in led the Majors he ranked second in the NL in extra-base hits with 82, and his 352 total bases were the most in the NL (second in MLB). He is the first player in Rockies history to lead the league in home runs and RBI for two consecutive seasons, and the third player to ever lead both categories for any single season, joining Dante Bichette in 1995 and Andres Galarraga in He is the fourth Rockies player to lead the league in home runs, joining Larry Walker (49, 1997), Andres Galarraga (47, 1996) and Dante Bichette (40, 1995), and the first to do it twice. Arenado s 133 RBI were the most of his career, six more than any other player in the Major Leagues, 24 more than anyone in the NL and the most by a Rockies player since Matt Holliday drove in 137 in 2007 they are the second-most RBI by a Rockies third baseman behind Vinny Castilla s 144 in CHARLIE S GOLDEN TICKET Rockies outfielder Charlie Blackmon set career highs in runs (111), hits (187), doubles (35), home runs (29), RBI (82), batting average (.324), OBP (.381) and slugging percentage (.552). The runs ranked third in the NL behind Arenado s 116 (ranked second), the slugging percentage ranked fifth in the NL, the batting average ranked fourth in the NL and fifth in MLB. Recorded 186 hits as an outfielder, the most in the NL and the second-most in MLB... also led NL outfielders in runs scored (110), batting average (.324) and slugging (.554) and ranked second in OBP (.381)... his 29 home runs were tied for fifth. Blackmon s road batting average of.313 (94-for-300) is the seventh-highest in franchise history... the 94 hits are the fourth-most in the road in Rockies history, and his 17 road home runs are tied for the ninth-most in Rockies history... had a.563 slugging percentage on the road, which is the fifth-highest in Rockies history. PRIME Rockies second baseman DJ LeMahieu set career highs in runs (104), hits (192), doubles (32), triples (8), home runs (11), RBI (66), walks (66), batting average (.348), on-base percentage (.416) and slugging percentage (.495). The.348 batting average was the highest in the Major Leagues this season, securing LeMahieu the MLB batting crown... it is the eighth-highest batting average for a single season in Rockies history, and the highest since Todd Helton batted.358 (209-for-583) in It was the 10th batting title for a Rockies player in franchise history, and the third in the last four seasons (Justin Morneau in 2014, Michael Cuddyer in 2013). STORY OF THE YEAR Trevor Story played 97 games in 2016 prior to going on the disabled list for the remainder of the season on Aug. 2 with a torn ligament in his left thumb. Became the first player to hit two home runs in his first game of a career that fell on Opening Day... hit a total of six home runs in his first four career games... home runs in four consecutive games to begin a season tied for the longest streak in Major League history (also: Chris Davis, 2013, Nelson Cruz, 2011, Mark McGwire, 1998, Willie Mays, 1971). Despite playing only 97 games, finished the season in first place among all rookies in home runs (27) and tied for the lead in RBI (72). His 21 home runs tied a first-half NL rookie record (Dave Kingman, 1972; Albert Pujols, 2001). Named the NL Rookie of the Month for April after hitting 10 home runs and recording 20 RBI 10 home runs were tied for the most in MLB history for a rookie (Jose Abreu, 2014) and the most in NL history by a Rookie. A WOLF WAS BORN Jon Gray s 185 strikeouts are the all-time Rockies rookie single-season record and were the most among Major League rookies this year 10 wins ranked fifth among Rockies rookies all-time, tied for fourth among Major League rookies this season. His strikeouts per nine innings (9.91) led all Major League rookies, ranked sixth in the Majors overall, and was the highest single-season rate in Rockies history. Acquired: 1st round of 2011 Draft The 26-year-old rookie left-hander made 19 starts for the Rockies in 2016, his first Major League season... made his Major League debut June 12 vs. San Diego at Coors Field, earning no decision in a 2-1 Rockies win. His 3.35 ERA (96.2 IP, 36 ER) through his first 16 starts was the lowest by a Rockies starter through the first 16 starts in franchise history. Acquired: 1st round of 2012 Draft The 25-year-old right-hander made two appearances on the Major League roster in 2016 he was originally recalled from Triple-A April 27 and optioned to Albuquerque July 5 before being recalled for a final time on Sept. 6. Made seventeen appearances in 2016; nine starts and eight relief appearances. Began his season with a 2.1-inning relief appearance on April 27 vs. Pittsburgh.
