The No. 24 Blue Devils square off with their second ranked opponent of the week, after defeating No. 14 East Carolina Tuesday afternoon. Duke and No. 13 Louisville are set for a 4 p.m. first pitch Friday afternoon, while Saturday s and Sunday s game are both set for a 1 p.m. start at the DBAP. BY THE NUMBERS 2 Junior left-handed pitcher Bill Chillari currently ranks second in the ACC in WHIP, with a mark of The southpaw has only allowed eight hits and five walks across his 17.2 innings pitched, while recording 20 strikeouts in his outings. 9 Freshman Rudy Maxwell enters this weekend with a nine-game hitting streak, the longest on the team this season. Maxwell has recorded 12 hits across the span, including one double, one triple and his first career grand slam. 12 The Duke pitching staff ranks third in the ACC in ERA with a mark of 2.92 (50 ER/154.0 IP). Senior right-hander Hunter Davis headlines the effort with an ERA of 1.42, which ranks sixth in the conference, while junior left-hander Bill Chillari sports a 1.53 ERA to place ninth in the league. Davis also ranks second in the ACC in hits per nine innings, allowing 3.79 (8 H/19.0 IP), while Chillari ranks third at 4.08 (8 H/17.2 IP). 14 The Blue Devils have recorded 14 home runs over their last 14 contests, including four multi-home run outings. Senior Kennie Taylor and sophomore Michael Rothenberg lead the way for the Duke offense with three long balls apiece. The third baseman is tied for second on the team in hits with 20, while batting at a.308 clip across the 16 games this season for the Blue Devils. 24 Senior Kennie Taylor owns a 24-game reached base streak, which dates back to last season. After reaching base safely in the last seven contests of the 2018 campaign, the Tampa, Fla., native has reached base safely in every contest this season. 24 The Blue Devils enter this week ranked No. 24 in the Baseball America poll, and have been ranked in the top 25 for the entire season. Louisville is ranked No. 13 in the publication s poll, which sets up a top 25 matchup at Durham Bulls Athletic Park this weekend. BY THE NUMBE 200 The Blue Devil pitching staff has totaled 200 strikeouts this season to lead the ACC, 12 more than any other school in the conference, while ranking fourth in the nation. The Duke pitchers also rank fourth in the country in strikeouts per nine innings with a mark of 11.7, with nine Duke pitchers having recorded double-digit strikeout totals. The Cardinals hold a 5-2 series advantage over the Blue Devils, including a 2-1 mark over Duke in Durham. Most recently, the Blue Devils and the Cardinals matched up in the 2018 ACC Tournament, with Louisville coming away with a 9-2 victory. The two teams last met in the regular season in 2017, when the Blue Devils traveled to Louisville for a three-game series. Duke took the series opener, 5-3, before falling in the final two games of the series. Head coach Chris Pollard holds a 2-5 mark against Louisville. Thirteen coaches picked North Carolina to win the Coastal Division, while Virginia received the other first-place vote. The Tar Heels tallied 97 points, ahead of both Virginia and Duke, who tied for second with 64 points apiece. Miami placed fourth with 61 points, while Georgia Tech (59), Pitt (24) and Virginia Tech (23) rounded out the teams in the division. The Blue Devils finished second in the ACC Coastal a season ago, posting an record in conference play. HOT START FOR THE DEVILS The Blue Devils are off to a hot start in the 2019 campaign, holding a 12-5 record across their first 17 games. Duke has been perfect across each of its four weekend series this season, including a sweep over Lehigh, series wins over Big Ten opponents in Northwestern and Penn State, and a series victory over Virginia. This past weekend, the Blue Devils traveled to Charlottesville for their conference series of the season, coming away with a pair of victories to claim the series. After inclement weather forced the two teams to move Friday s series opener to Saturday, Virginia took game one, 11-3, before Duke bounced back to sweep Sunday s doubleheader to secure the series win. The Blue Devils carried their momentum from the weekend into this week, defeating No. 14 East Carolina, 7-2, Tuesday afternoon. The win snapped Duke s 17-game losing streak to the Pirates, and marked the Blue Devil s first victory over ECU since WELCOME TO K-VILLE The Blue Devil pitching staff has been impressive through the first 17 games, recording 200 strikeouts to lead the ACC, 12 more than any other school in the conference, while ranking fourth in the nation. The Blue Devils also rank fourth in the country in strikeouts per nine innings with 11.7, and rank second in the league in hits allowed per nine innings at mark of 6.84 (117 H/154.0 IP). Nine Duke pitchers have recorded double-digit strikeout totals so far this season, with sophomore Bryce Jarvis leading the way with 24 strikeouts, while junior left-hander Graeme Stinson and senior Hunter Davis tie for second with 23 punchouts apiece. CAPTAIN KENNIE Senior co-captain Kennie Taylor has proved to be a leader across the 2019 campaign, both on and off the field for this year s team. Taylor, the squad s starting center fielder, leads the club in multiple statistical categories, including hits (27), doubles (7), RBI (18) and runs (19), while tying for the team lead in home runs (3) and stolen bases (6). His 27 hits place him atop the ACC heading into this week s matchup, while being tied for third in doubles. The Tampa, Fla., native has reached base safely in every contest this season, and owns a reached-base streak of 24 games, dating back to last season. GOING STREAKIN Five Blue Devils currently own double-digit reached base streaks, highlighted by senior Kennie Taylor s 24 game reached base streak which dates back to last season. Junior Erikson Nichols owns a 17-game reached base streak, reaching base safely in every contest this season, while sophomore Michael Rothenberg has a 14-game reached base streak. The duo of sophomore Chris Crabtree and freshman Ethan Murray each own 10-game reached base streaks. Freshman Rudy Maxwell is currently riding a nine-game hitting streak, which serves as a team-long, while Nichols has an eight-game hitting streak entering this weekend. DUKE IN THE NATIONAL POLLS The Blue Devils entered the 2019 campaign ranked within the top 25 in three of the six national collegiate baseball polls. Duke landed at No. 20 in the Collegiate Baseball preseason poll, No. 22 in Baseball America s rankings and No. 25 on the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) preseason poll. The Blue Devils were also listed at No. 31 in Perfect Game s ranking, while receiving votes in the USA Today Coaches Poll to begin the season. After four weekends of action, Duke now sits at No. 24 in the Baseball America poll.

3 DURHAM BULLS ATHLETIC PARK JACK COOMBS FIELD 409 BLACKWELL STREET DURHAM, NC OPENED 1995 SURFACE Grass CAPACITY 10,000 DIMENSIONS 305-LF, 371-LC, 400-CF, 373-RC, 327-RF DETAILS On October 2, 2015, Duke renewed its agreement with the Durham Bulls to play home games at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park (DBAP), home of the Triple-A affiliate of the Tampa Bay Rays. Beginning in 2016, the contract renewal is a seven-year agreement that allows Duke to play up to 36 exhibition and home games at the DBAP each year. The agreement also called for a limited number of Duke practices at the DBAP as well as a new permanent Duke locker room and clubhouse at the facility. Duke and the Durham Bulls began their partnership prior to the Blue Devils 2010 season. The 2019 campaign marks the 10th consecutive season in which Duke will play homes games at the DBAP. Duke s home stadium since 1931, Coombs underwent significant renovations over the past several years, including the installation of state-of-the-art synthetic AstroTurf in The Blue Devils are scheduled to play five games in 2019 at Coombs, including a three-game ACC series against Virginia Tech as well as a Sunday doubleheader against VCU. The southpaw received five preseason All-America nods, including a Baseball America first-team honor where he was one of only three unanimous first-team selections. The Norcross, Ga., native also earned a spot on the D1Baseball first team, the Collegiate Baseball second team, the Perfect Game/Rawlings third team and the NCBWA third team. Graeme has assumed his role of the Blue Devils Friday night starter, while his younger brother, Cooper Stinson, serves in the weekend rotation as the Sunday starter. The Stinsons rank second and fourth on the team and strikeouts, as Graeme is second with 23 punchouts, while Cooper is right behind with 22 of his own. D1Baseball lists the younger Stinson at No. 4 among the publication s list of impact freshmen in the ACC. FRESH FACES ON THE DIAMOND After losing 16 lettermen from last year s roster, including seven of nine positional starters, 12 newcomers have seen their first career action as a Blue Devil across this season. The combination of freshmen Jack Carey, Damon Lux, Rudy Maxwell, Ethan Murray, Matt Stinebiser and Cooper Stinson, sophomore Wil Hoyle, juco transfer Eli Herrick, and graduate transfers Kyle Gallagher and Ben Gross each saw their first action as Blue Devil opening weekend against Lehigh, while freshmen Aaron Beasley and Kyle Salley made their first career appearances in the Northwestern series. Murray has started every contest this season for the Blue Devils, while Maxwell has made 16 starts and Gallagher has earned 14. NO-HIT WONDER In the series opener against Penn State, the Duke pitching staff tossed a combined no-hitter, leading the Blue Devils to a 14-0 victory over the Nittany Lions. The no-hitter served as only the sixth in school history, and the first since Tom Blackburn accomplished the feat against Rollins in The Duke pitching staff tallied 11 strikeouts across the nine hitless innings, while only surrendering two walks. Headlining the effort was starting pitcher Graeme Stinson (2-1), who worked the first 5.0 innings, collecting five punchouts, and allowing two walks to earn his second win of the season. Sophomore Matt Dockman followed in relief, tossing 1.0 inning and recording one strikeout, while freshman Jack Carey went on to work the final 3.0 frames, notching five strikeouts to earn his first career save. THIS WEEKEND AT THE DBAP March 15 marks National Shoe the World Day. Friday, March 15 through Sunday, the Duke baseball team will hold a shoe donation drive, encouraging all fans to bring a new and/or gently used pair of shoes to donate Durham Community. Those who participate by donating a pair of shoes in this shoe drive will receive free admission. Enjoy St. Patrick s Day, Sunday, March 17, at the ballpark. Themed cookies and Duke Baseball SPD themed decals will be available to fans at the marketing table located in front of section 204 while supplies last. Nichols owns a 17-game reached base streak as one of only two Blue Devils to reach base safely this season. The Oradell, N.J., native is tied for second on the team in hits with 20, and is currently riding an eight-game hitting streak. Through 17 games this season, Nichols has already surpassed his career RBI total with 12 so far. NICHOLS CAREER BREAKDOWN Years GP-GS R H RBI BACK FOR SECONDS Transitioning into everyday roles, sophomores Chris Crabtree and Michael Rothenberg have enjoyed solid starts to their second year. After seeing action in only 20 games last season, including six starts, Crabtree has already matched his hit total from a season ago, while surpassing his run total with 12 this season. The Bahama, N.C., native ranks second on the team in on-base percentage with a mark of.418, and owns a 10- game reached base streak entering the Louisville series. Rothenberg has already matched his RBI total from a season ago with 17, doing so in just 17 games this season compared to 34 games in The Boca Raton, Fla., native currently owns a 14-game reached base streak entering the weekend, has posted four multi-rbi contests. 6 CHRIS POLLARD HEAD COACH SEVENTH SEASON AT DUKE 14 Chris Pollard became Duke University s 25th head baseball coach in June 2012, taking the reigns of the Blue Devil program after successful stints at Pfeiffer University and Appalachian State University. In addition to guiding the Blue Devils to five straight 30-win seasons, Pollard led Duke to an at-large bid to the 2016 NCAA Tournament, ending the program s 55-year drought without making the postseason event. Pollard became the fastest Duke head coach to reach 100 wins with the Blue Devils, recording his 100th victory at Duke March 15, 2016, against Maryland Eastern Shore. During Pollard s tenure, 19 Blue Devils have been selected in the Major League Baseball Draft.
