1 SLJL Meeting Minutes March 11, 2015 Attending New Business Randy Hoffman, Ralph Dunigan, Laura Hoffman, Deb Gaudreau, Paul Dolan, Jen Schiller, Ken Elkins, Lance Shipman, Dean Whitcomb, Lisa Sciborski, Guido McLaren, Walt Novak, Don Mifsud, Bryan Spaller, Irven Meadows, Sean O Neil, Dan Young, Rob Schiller, Jamie Cummings, Derrick DeGroat, Tom Bowen, Chuck Dziadzio, John Hollo Meeting minutes of March 4 were accepted. Discussion needed in off season for recruiting umpires for Fall Season. Plan on discussing umpire structure and formulating ideas on how to make these jobs easier in coming weeks. Need to develop sign for McHattie Parking Lot for Historical Society. Dick s Sporting Goods is considering sponsoring the Skills Competition night at All Star Weekend. Also wants us to consider a Fall Dick s Night. Also asked us to control the $5.00 coupons better this year, at Dick s Night in March. Derek DeGroat has submitted the request to the Tigers for PAWS for T- Riffic T-Ball Day 6/13/15 from 10-5 pm and also All Star Weekend 7/17-18/15 from 6-9 pm. Need to discuss need for 12 month insurance for SLJL. Board Positions Need the following filled for 2015 season; Trustee-Boy s Koufax Trustee-Boy s Colt Boy s Umpire Schedule

2 Fall Season Treasurer Thanks to Dan Young for volunteering to be our Minors Trustee. Welcome aboard Dan! Consider for 2015 Fall Season to move BCP to MWF. Add Play Up check box on Fall Registration Form. Account Balances; Chase Checking $21, N/C First Merit Checking $173, First Merit BT $50, $2, First Merit GT $11, $2, Fields & Scheduling Field improvements at School Fields for 2015; -$ CPA Service -$3, Girl s Clinic -$80.18 Java House 1. Drainage at Salem & Brummer 2. Fix infield/outfield lip at Millennium, Salem, & Hardy 3. Change bleachers, cement in dugouts, and irrigation at McHattie. (Waiting on City). Quote for cement in dugouts rec d 9/27/14 $3, Talked to Parks & Rec Board and may have matching funds for Pavilion Project at Volunteer. 5. Working with High School softball Boosters to get improvements to Softball Fields. 6. SLEHS Boy s would like to get backstop extended to Dug Out full height to avoid losing foul balls in pond. 7. Possible field locations near fire station at Atchison Park near 11 Mile and Milford Road in Lyon Twp. 8. Roof on 3 rd Base dugout on 9 Mile Field is in need of repair hitting tunnels for Atchison Park, Dean and Ralph to get quotes. 10. Brian Spaller getting quote from DJ Septic for new supplier of Porta Johns Ralph has new landscaper suggested by Sean O Neil to quote rework of Kent Lake and Brummer. Need them to also quote Salem. They suggested to Ralph to do work in summer so as to not create ruts with the equipment. We may need to close individual fields a week at a time to get the work

3 completed. Lightning Landscape quoted $2,400/field. Need to have Salem and Brummer first on that list. Bollinger wants to be in loop of any work we will be doing on fields. This project is on hold until approval from Mr. Bollinger. Bob Martin of South Lyon Maintenance is supportive of sprinkler system and outfield fencing at McHattie. We suggest that outfield should be leveled before system is put in. Home plate at Volunteer South is sinking and needs repair. Deb quoted having son do work on replacing home plate. Plate $250.00, Installation $350.00, Supplies $150.00, Board approved. Will work with city to pay half. Home plate at both McHattie fields needs to be replaced. Also need to work with City to repair fencing on both Volunteer fields. Need to get permanent fence around maintenance dirt at Volunteer Fields. Warning tracks need to be cleaned of grass and weeds. Bleacher behind north field needs to be fixed. Need one new base at SLHS Boys Varsity Field. Need to replace Home Plate at SLHS Girl s JV field. Ralph has informed Mike Teagan at SLHS that the SLJL will purchase and install. Home Plate at Atchison South has sunk and needs to be repaired. Request to purchase field Tampers to help in field repairs. Also need to purchase more drags to replace worn out ones. Need to purchase 6 additional large field boxes to complete replacement of field boxes. There is one new large box at Dean s company. With purchasing 6 that will give is 7. They are to be placed at the following fields; Brummer, Hardy, Salem, Kent Lake, Volunteer, Bartlett, and SLHS Boys Varsity. Irv has agreed to deliver these 7 boxes and place. He asks only to be allowed to keep one of the small boxes in return. Dean announced that we will have use of the Freshman softball field at SLHS from beginning of the SLJL season. He will coordinate that we will not be using field when there are SLHS Varsity or JV Softball games. Lost use of Volunteer Park on Monday evenings due to new adult softball league. Will wait to see if there is enough registration for us to be overly concerned.

4 Equipment needed to purchase for 2015 season; 1. Metal First aid Kits 2. Tool Boxes for Tools 3. Chaulkers 4. McGregor BCP Balls All Star Next year for All Star weekend; 1. Meet with Dean Whitcomb parents who will be hosts in 2015 and explain concerns. 2. Move Saturday games to 3:00, 6:00, & 9:00 pm in order to utilize lights for 2 nights. 3. Keep Skills Competition on Thursday. 4. Come up with outline/cheat sheet for announcer before sessions. 5. Discourage BCP coaches from standing on fields during games. 6. Have Kaline players pitch whole game provided there are enough pitchers. 7. Keep girl s games at alternating times to allow players to watch other girls teams. 8. Discuss All Star Ad s profit going to host team of All Star weekend. 5 Laura to send out list of coaches volunteers this week. Discussed preliminary numbers of head coaches needed per numbers of players in each division. Leaving registration open as long as we have openings on teams past draft. After draft anyone registering will be placed on team that would draft next. This will go on until there is not enough time to get a uniform. Please send any coaches chosen names to Paul Dolan for Background checks. Draft times as follows; BCP 6:00 pm Kaline 6:30 pm Mays TBD pm March 30 Location TBD Reese 7:30 pm Koufax 8:00 pm GCP Minors Majors 8:00 pm 7:00 pm 7:00 pm BCP, GCP, and Kaline each has 1 head coach and 3 assistants, all others have 1 head coach and 2 assistants. Need to add countdown page on Website for player openings in each division. Days of week each division will play; T-Ball M-W-F T-TH-Sat GCP M-W-F Minors T-Th-Sat Majors M-W-Sat BCP T-Th-Sat Kaline T-Th-Sat Mays M-W-F Reese M-T-W-Th-F-Sat Koufax T-Th-Sat Colt M-T-W-Th-F Please provide special dates to Ken Elkins for scheduling purposes to try and avoid conflicts during season.

6 Dick s Night Umpires Clinics Board approved $1,200 for raffle prizes. Walt to get with George at KV for Banner for kids to sign. Possible purchase items at Dick s for SLJL, Batting T s and Drags. Don Mifsud will bring raffle tickets and jar for Dick s and BW3 s BW3 Fundraiser, Don Mifsud will host from 6-7 pm, Deb Gaudreau will host from 7-8 pm, Irven to host from 8-9 pm. Walt will order sweatshirts from KV in Red and Blue, budget approved for $ as raffle prizes at BW3. Still in need of second volunteer to take care of scheduling boy s umpires. Need to discuss which fields to have umpire clinics on. Boy s clinics for March 14 needed to be rescheduled, Will makeup on March 28. All 60 boys will be from 9:00 Noon. Hopefully will be able to go outside. April 4 is during Spring Break and must be cancelled. Laura to send out . A mid clinic snack will be provided by the SLJL. Had 54 of 60 at Boys clinics and 38 of 40 for Girls clinics on Feb 28. For 2016 should consider increasing fee to $ to eliminate some of the SLJL expenses. Also have parents bring registration form on first week to verify which session they are in. Travel Dean to get with Aaron Kneiper of Total Sports to plan coaches clinic as we did last year at The Playground. Discussion with Dean and Laura to devise way of having Travel players register on Blue Sombrero and pay their $30.00 fee to SLJL on paypal. Fees will be due by March 31. This will allow us to develop a more complete data base of all people involved in SLJL. Will also investigate the possibility to register both Boy s and Girl s umpires.
