2 2015 Sacramento Water for People Water Slam Softball Tournament Registration Form When: Friday, September 25, Players should arrive by 5:00 PM. Food and drink will be available for purchase at the Freedom Park Fields Concession Stand. Where: Freedom Park, (2802 Perrin Ave, North Highlands, CA on former McClellan Air Force Base site, use Watt Avenue exit off I-80) Why: Raise funds to support the efforts of Water for People while having a great time! Basic Team Guidelines for the Tournament: Minimum team size is eight players; at least 2 players must be female. Teams should bring their own equipment (bats, gloves). If able, teams are asked to provide a scorekeeper for a game other than their own. Teams and spectators must be respectful and courteous to others, Freedom Field rules, and Freedom Field staff. Team captains are encouraged to distribute Freedom Field s rules to your team ahead of the tournament. No alcohol, glass containers, outside food or beverages, pets, abusive language, or disorderly conduct will be allowed. Participants violating these rules may be asked to leave. Each team is also responsible to provide a scorekeeper for a game other than their own. Team captains - please arrive by 5:15pm for a briefing with key information about the tournament, and to review the Team Rules. Miscellaneous Information: Traffic in the Watt/I-80 area can get very congested on Friday afternoons make sure to leave plenty of time to arrive at Freedom Park by 5:00pm! Food and refreshments will be sold at the Freedom Park concession stand. No pets are allowed at Freedom Park. 5 Water Slam Team Rules: 1. All games will be played according to the 2014 official ASA rules except for the following modifications. 2. Bracket games will be 50 minutes in length or 7 innings long, whichever is shorter. Championship and consolation game will be 60 minutes in length or 7 innings long, whichever is shorter. 3. Play will start immediately once teams have taken the field (no warm-ups on the field of play). 4. All players on each team roster are eligible to be in the batting order, whether or not they are playing in the field; however, not all players are required to play in each game larger rosters may consider utilizing some players in one game and the other players in the next. All players in the batting order must bat before the first batter is allowed to bat again. 5. Each team must have at least two female and a minimum of eight players in the batting order at all times. A maximum of 10 players on the field at one time. 6. A courtesy runner may be used once a batter has reached base; the runner must be the same gender player who made the last out. 7. Different balls will be used for female and male batters an 11 ball for female batters, and a 12 ball for male batters. The pitcher will be responsible for pitching the appropriate ball to each batter. 8. The ball must be delivered with a perceptible arc and reach a height of at least 6 feet, while not exceeding 12 feet. There will be a mat behind the plate to help the umpire determine balls and strikes; a pitch landing on the mat or the plate will be considered a strike. 9. Only ASA approved bats are allowed. 10. Each batter will start with a 1-1 (1 ball, 1 strike) count. 11. After 2 strikes on batter, 1 foul ball will be allowed the second foul ball is an out. 12. Base runners may not leave their base until the ball is hit.

6 13. In order to protect fielders and base runners from injury, no sliding is allowed; a player who slides into a base will be called out. Base runners can run straight through first, second and third base without being tagged out. At home plate, a chalk line will be drawn perpendicular to the plate; base runners must cross the chalk line, while the catcher must use the plate. All plays at home plate are considered forced outs. Close plays at home will still be called by the umpire run rule in effect after the offensive team scores 4 runs in an inning, their half-inning is over (equivalent of 3 outs); however, additional runs can score on the continuation of the play (i.e. if three runs have scored and the bases are loaded, batter could hit a grand slam to score 4, for a total of 7 in the inning). 15. No new inning will start after 40 minutes into a bracket game. And no new inning will start after 45 minutes into a championship or consolation game. A dedicated scorekeeper/timekeeper will be responsible for notifying the umpire when this time limit is reached. 16. The home team will be allowed to bat in the bottom half of the last inning, even if the time limit has passed. 17. Tie games are allowed in bracket play. Four teams will advance; the first and second-ranked teams overall will advance to a 60-minute championship game, and the third and fourth-ranked teams overall will advance to a 60-minute consolation game. Ranking will be determined by record in bracket performance. In the event of two teams having the same record, ranking will be decided by a performance score, which is equal to the difference in total runs scored minus total runs given up over the games in bracket play; the teams with the best records/highest performance scores will be considered the first through fourth-ranked teams. The same ranking methodology will be used to determine which two teams advance to the championship game and which two advance to the consolation game. In the event that two teams tie on performance score, a tie-breaker will be conducted by a coin-flip.
