From our Committee Safety at During last weekend, a car owned by one of our members was damaged by a baseball that was hit into the car park by a visiting team doing some pre-game practice in an area too close to the car park and with inadequate supervision. Luckily no one was hurt but this incident could have just as easily resulted in personal injury to passers-by including small children. This incident also serves as a timely reminder that all of our coaches, managers and any other club official (as well as parents) have a duty of care to ensure that we maintain a safe environment for our players spectators and visitors to our park. To help achieve a safe environment, we need make sure that games and pre-game training is conducted under appropriate supervision. Any coach, manager or club official that observes unsafe behaviour or activities, including behaviour of visiting teams should act immediately to do what they can to stop the behaviour or minimise the risks. In most cases simply pointing out to those involved that their behaviour poses risk will be sufficient however if they are uncooperative please advise our club President on mobile or Council Rangers on Illegal Dumping Over the last few months we have been receiving reports from Council of illegal dumping of mulch, palm fronds and some other material in the gravel car park at the southern end of Reserve. We are advised that this mulch can't be used by Council in the parks and that it also contaminates any mulch stored in the carpark by Council. In order to assist Council stop the illegal dumping we have been asked to keep the Boom gates at either end of the carpark locked when not in use so we would appreciate if those with keys to the gate assist by locking the gate when not in use by our club. We would also appreciate if everyone can watch out for any illegal dumping when travelling past the ground and let our club President know if you see anything suspicious. Winter Baseball (Seniors) Yes its almost that time of the year again when we start to plan for our seniors winter Baseball season that commences in April. We are again hoping to field a number of teams in the Pacific Coast Baseball League and registrations will commence in a few weeks time and be open to men or women players (minimum age of 14). So all of you mums and dads that have always thought you would like to try your hand at Baseball or for those ex Baseballers that would like to get back into the sport, winter is the perfect opportunity so watch this newsletter and our website more details and dates. Coaches and Managers Meeting Please remember that these meetings provide coaches and managers with the opportunity to discuss any problems/ issues and seek information, advice and help from the club. To ensure this is a success regular attendance is important. If Coaches and/ or managers cannot attend, please organise for a representative from your team. Coaches and managers should make themselves available, so that these meetings can be a success. The intention is for these meetings to occur monthly. Next meeting TBA.

Silver Sponsors Uniform Shop - Donations As the season comes to an end, the Uniform Shop would welcome any donations of uniforms (including baseball-mufti, or rep gear) / equipment / shoes that players are about to outgrow over winter. We have had a number of families who really appreciate our pre-loved gear. Last month, we were able to lend Rookie Rep players white baseball pants due to the generous donations of past families. Please hand items to JP in the canteen now for distribution next season.

RBHL Baseball Rules - Season A copy of the current rules is available in the canteen if you need to clarify anything. In addition a summary sheet will also be posted on the notice-board, which is a quick reference to the specific requirements, such filed dimensions, ball size, innings etc. If you need a copy of the quick reference guide please ask at the canteen. Anyone looking for a copy of the rules can go to the RHBL website at the following address and print a copy for their own reference Once at this site look on the left hand side and click on Competition Rules, this will take you to the PDF document. Weekly Results Each week it is each team s responsibility to notify Heather Livian of the result to allow her to submit the information to RHBL. Heather should be sent an SMS with the team details and the result on before the end of the day the game has been played. The result sheet can be handed in to the canteen for Heather to collect, however the result should still be sent by SMS to Heather. Umpire s Co-ordinator Please note that the Umpire s Co-ordinator can organise an umpire for your game when it is at or you are the home team at another field. myreeann@optusnet.com.au. However, you must provide the details by 5pm on the Tuesday before your game, no exceptions. The co-ordinator will then organise for one of the club s umpires to attend. Payment of the umpire is the responsibility of the parents. This job is a difficult one to co-ordinate, so your earliest communication is appreciated. BBQ Duty Please note that this helps the club keep fees low and helps fund equipment. Round Date Team Feb 2015 St Pats LL TBA The committee does appreciate the work done on the BBQ and thanks all those that help, whether they are rostered on or asked to assist. Without this method of raising funds, the committee would need to resort to higher fees, selling raffle tickets and asking for a significant amount of financial support. At the end of the day this will affect your pocket, so keep up the good work. Ryde Hornsby Notices Strategic Forum Attention All Comets junior players, parents, coaches and managers Ryde Hawks Baseball is planning to hold a Strategic Forum on April 27th with a view to gain valuable insight from the clubs so we can plan our future and for the board to discuss some of the plans and initiatives they have in the pipeline. The Comets committee would like your input. After all, you are the main stakeholders in our club and we would like to hear your views. To assist, we have created a questionnaire on survey monkey. Please go to and complete the survey. We appreciate that some of you may not be able to address all of the issues but please answer where you can. Lastly, if you could please complete the survey by April 22, which will allow us enough time to collate your views before the forum. This is your chance to have your say, so please get involved.

Code of Conduct Players, Coaches, Managers and Parents should be aware that there is a Code of Conduct that applies during baseball games. The conduct of all three groups must abide by these rules otherwise disciplinary action may be taken by the league. Please read and ensure you are aware of the code relating to you. Please read and be aware as not complying, or being aware of the code is no excuse. In addition, our Umpires (Blues), both senior and junior are aware of the rules. If anyone from Concord Comets is not happy with any calls then your first approach should be your Coach/ Manager. If you need to elevate this further then please do so through a representative of our club. Baseball Etiquette Rules Please note the following, as they will help to make the game better and more enjoyable for everyone. 1. Wear your club baseball uniform correctly. Take pride in your presentation and the image of the sport. The public learn about baseball from how you behave. 2. Do not steal bases after being 10 runs ahead. Do not expect to be held close to the base. Advance on a batted or played ball. Do not embarrass your fellow opponent(s). 3. Pitchers and catcher should always apologise to the opposition player on a hit pitch ball or collision. 4. Do not lift your team by criticising the opposition; always talk up positive remarks to your own players. 5. Do not excel or acclaim failures, always praise good plays from all players. 6. Always respect and thank the opposition, umpires, scorers and spectators after a game. 7. Never use the infield of a baseball diamond to warm up before a game. Use it only for pre-game fielding drills. 8. When making player position and substitute changes always inform the Chief Umpire first, then the Scorers. 9. During a game, players and coaches should only engage in conversations with their own bench. Do not engage in discussions with the opposition or public. 10. Take cheap outs out of your game. Respect a good return to a base on a pick off or a slide into a base. Do not keep holding on to the player. 11. If your opposition team is short of players, in the spirit of sportsmanship consider assisting by: a) providing your excess player into their line up, and b) providing outfielders when your team is at bat. Whilst everyone may not follow these rules or even be aware of them, it doesn t mean that the players for Concord Baseball Club cannot follow these rules.

Coaching Tips For those interesting in some coaching tips, please follow the below link, which provides a number of sites were tips and drills are available that may assist and help develop players. Also refer to YouTube for various videos, which show practical examples and steps you through the process as well. YouTube is free and full of various options that can assist. A good idea would be to include some Warm-up and Cool-down drills and ensure the team knows what to do before a game if the coach and/or manager are running late. Parents should be involved to assist. Players should also be advised that training is an opportunity to try new things that they wouldn t try in an actual game to see if they are capable of doing it. Training should also be fun, however just as tough as a normal game, with as much effort. Let s send the kids home tired.
