2 Legends of the Week! Lewis Wharton of the Isotopes pitched 5 innings, allowing 4 runs. At the plate he reached base 3 out of 4 times and scored 2 of our 7 runs. While playing 3rd he caught 2 line drives in 2 innings. Picture Please! Casey Ray of the new-look Redlegs led the way with the bat, going 4-4 with a triple and scored the winning run! He also gunned down the tying run at the plate, relaying from the center fielder! The swing with 2 outs in the 8 th over the left fielder s head and coming into 3 rd to eventually score the winning run off Neil s big hit!

3 Al Torres of the Nationals helped us win the game with Al Speedy Torres going 1 for 3, 1 BB, 3 Runs, 4 SB s, and 1 Amazing Catch to save the game. Dave Hays of the Eagles stepped up with a 2-3 performance at the plate with 3 RBI, 3 runs, a double and a stolen base to lead the Eagles offensive attack. In addition, Dave continued his pitching prowess from last Spring allowing only 2 earned runs and striking out 4.

4 Game of the Week (Redlegs over Pirates, 8-7!) The Redlegs (30+) The new-look Redlegs started off with an incredibly exciting game that went down to the 9th inning with the Pirates threatening with the tying run on 3b. But closer Adam Fontaine battled to a 3-2 count, then got the strikeout on a foul tip! Legend of the Week nominee Casey Ray led the way with the bat, going 4-4 with a triple and scored the winning run! He also gunned down the tying run at the plate, relaying from the center fielder. Other multi-hit Redlegs included Neil Whelden who went 4-5 with the game-winning RBI. Pitching was solid with Fred Leiby, Chuck DeNoewer and Adam each going 3 innings. The Redlegs are glad to be back on the winning track!

5 Team Game Summaries Game reports by the managers. Photos are courtesy of The Commish or the managers. Looks like the Outlaws missed the memo about the Hurricanes being defending champs! Behind Legend of the Week Matt Wainman's 5 innings of no hit baseball (yes that was an E3 not a single), the Outlaws cruised to a 10-2 opening day victory.wainman also starred at the dish with 2 hits and 3 rbis. A solid effort turned in by the rest of lineup and the bullpen closed it out with relief appearances by Eddie Ammeen, Mike Kirik and Spring MVP David Kellmel. Great start to the season for the Outlaws! The Hurricanes (19+) Missed publishing deadline! The Nationals (19+) The Nationals opened the season with a lot of rust, but looked good in their new uniforms. They were able to hold on for the tough win over the newer formed BlackSox 9-8. It could have been the multiple trips to Chipotle during the off season or the extreme heat for the fall, either way; the Nationals will have some work to do if they want to finish the season on top. Overall, it was a true Team Win, with everyone contributing to the victory. The Nationals did have some bright spots to build upon in Week 1: Chris Herald and Kevin Mallon each knocked in a pair of RBI s, we just need Chris to actually reach base in Week 2 (Oops, forgot, he did walk once the week 1). Tom Blazing Blazek went 2 for 3 with a RBI of his own. Curtis "Catch" Caram and Robert "Jr." Goad each knocked in an RBI and the raised their batting averages to.500 and.333 respectively. Rich Goad went 2 for 2, 2 BB s, and added an RBI to round out the RBI s. However Speed helped us win the game with Al Speedy Torres going 1 for 3, 1 BB, 3 Runs, 4 SB s, and 1 Amazing Catch to save the game. Al is our candidate for Legend of the Week.

6 Pitching for the Nationals was not too bad for the first week. The three pitchers, which included Rich Goad, Grant Sharp, and Tom Blazek combined giving the BlackSox 8 runs on 9 hits, 7 BB s, and 5 K s. Not too bad for the first week, extreme heat, and rusty arms. Manager Rich Goad said it was a great first game, but we have some work to do. Hats off to Legends Baseball for a wonderful first week of baseball, great umpiring and lots of fun! The Brewers (30+) The new expansion team, lead by the old Senators skipper, took the lead in the bottom of the first with four runs, and held it the end, great pitching from Ryan Russell, and the crafty old veteran Wayne Stevens,but he gave credit to his newly founded defense. both team were rusty for the first game of the season. but in the end, the new Skipper of the Brewers,stated that, were off to a good start and I believe it's going to be a very good year for this team, we have have a great bunch of ballplayers, and we are only going to get better as the season goes along. Also want to mention the suburb job the Catcher (Jason Raub ) did with position. The Eagles (30+) The Eagles and Generals opened up the Legends Fall Season Sunday with the bats in mid-season form. A combined total of 26 runs on 23 hits including 5 doubles lit up the damp grass at Lee High School. In the end the Eagles pulled away for a opening day win. After losing team MVP Dom DiFatta after he moved away to further serve our country in the military, the Eagles were looking at a possible rebuilding season at the plate and on the mound. There was a big question mark as to how the team could repeat a 7-3 record in the spring. However, that question has quite possibly been answered as Dave Hays stepped up with a 2-3 performance at the plate with 3 RBI, 3 runs, a double and a stolen base to lead the Eagles offensive attack. In addition, Dave continued his pitching prowess from last Spring allowing only 2 earned runs and striking out 4. New acquired Eagle Dean Wood also provided a clutch 3 innings of work on the mound allowing no earned runs with 6 K's. Dean also went 2-3 at the plate with a double.

7 The Eagles coaching staff was very impressed with the way the team gelled in the first game. Every Eagle reached base and the runs were spread throughout the lineup. Dom Tripodi was in mid season form in the lead off position slamming a double to open the game. Leo FitzHarris also came from behind the plate over the spring to become the teams closer. Add to that another acquired Eagle, Bryan Nelms, who reached base every at bat and the team could continue to impress the league on its one year anniversary in the league. Special thanks to Greg Budnik for making sure the field was playable allowing two games to be played at Lee High School, and it was a great day for baseball. The Isotopes If you like great pitching with defense to match, then this was the game for you. Rob of the Cardinals and Lewis of the Isotopes both really dealt in this game. Both starters went 5 strong innings and after 5 innings the Cardinals were in the driver's seat, leading 4-3. The difference in the game was the lone 4 run walk-off inning in the bottom of the 6th. It all began with two outs. The Isotopes hit a barrage of singles to take the lead and after that held on for the victory. Lewis Wharton pitched 5 innings for us, allowing 4 runs. At the plate he reached base 3 out of 4 times and scored 2 of our 7 runs. While playing 3rd he caught 2 line drives in 2 innings.
