He used the example of the current Tour de France where this technology has been successfully put to the test. Tiny transmitters are mounted on the bicycle seats and these transmit the data, including speed, which is sent to the Big Data Truck, then to helicopters, and then to the watching millions glued to their television screens. This technology is also being used in monitoring many of the health outputs associated with medical science - where will all this end!! Carol and I attended two changeovers recently, apart from the District lunch in Warragul. These were the Rotary Club of Mount Eliza changeover dinner held at the Mary Herring Hall within the Toorak College campus, where George-Ann Sullivan took over as President and the Rotary Club of Mornington, holding its 69th Changeover in the Tallis Room at the Mornington Golf Club, where John Parkinson became the President. These were both most enjoyable evenings with Tom and Lara Barrett joining us at Mount Eliza and a very friendly group at Mornington including Peter Jay and John Parkinson. We do tend to forget the amazing work done via the BBQ each fortnight outside the Butcher's shop in Mount Martha. This is a major part of our on-going ability to provide support to those who genuinely have a very worthwhile cause. That is not to say we should always be looking for other opportunities, such as the Bunnings BBQ's, to raise additional revenue for when the need arises. In 2015 Dimension Data were engaged to provide backup services with ASO (Amaury Sport Organisation) (media company) - They were engaged to improve the viewing experience by introducing a second screen viewing/monitoring capability for offsite viewers and viewers along the route going from yellow hand written boards to a GPS tracking device attached to the saddle the speed & accuracy of data (every second) improved significantly with a data processing truck on the go daily working 24 hour cycle every day for 21 days. Dimension Data deliver real-time information on individual riders for the first time in the history of professional cycling. This major innovation was made possible by Amaury Sport Organisation (ASO) in partnership with the 22 teams participating in the 2015 Tour de France. Highly accurate data will be collected through the use of live trackers under the saddle of each rider. Dimension Data will then process and analyse the data, and make it available to cycling fans, commentators, broadcasters and the media. The viewing public around the world will be able to follow all 198 riders in 22 teams real-time, and be able to track the speed at which each cyclist is riding, exactly where he's positioned in the race in relation to other cyclists, and the distance between each rider - all via a beta live tracking website.. Until now it was difficult to understand what was happening outside of what could be shown on the live television coverage. The ability to follow riders, get accurate information about which riders are in a group, and see real time speed are just some of the innovations that will be realised through this solution. During the duration of the three week race, Dimension Data be rolling out a range of new capabilities, including a beta live tracking website. All data analysed will be available through a beta live tracking website. This allows fans to select their favourite rider to follow, An extremely Interesting talk, one which I am sure challenged us all understanding the technology and wondering how all of this will effect us and how we will all keep up.
