2 Purpose: To solicit public input before the preparation of construction documents for Foothills Drive from Holmes Drive to 300 north of the intersection with Lakewood Drive approximately 6800 lf. The design may include new asphalt sections, curb and gutter, sidewalk, cut/fill, storm drainage, geotechnical and right-of-way.

4 Pros: Defined walking area on sidewalk Edge of roadway is clearly defined by curb On-street drainage is collected in gutter Barrier curb helps promote access control for where vehicles can and cannot exit/enter the roadway. Cons: At 11.5 in width the combined bike lane/shoulder encourages unaware drivers to use the space as a driving lane. Curb section may require more earthwork so the roadway can be set low enough to allow offstreet drainage to flow into roadway. Potential for rear-end accidents when vehicle stops to make left turn. Based on final design speed, barrier curb may not be appropriate and mountable curb considered. Drainage from gutter will be concentrated and will need to be handled appropriately through inlets and storm drainage piping.

5 Pros: Continuous left turn lane provides for left turning vehicles into residences. Could potentially build this section by widening existing roadway section. This would save money on construction materials and Management of Traffic (MOT) costs. Drainage can be handled via drainage swales. Cons: Wide travel -way created by CLTL promotes higher speeds. CLTL could become potential passing lane due to limited left turns in some areas. Street drainage flows over side walk leaving debris and potential for ice. The combined width for the bike lane and sidewalk promote vehicles using this as an additional driving lane or for parking. Rumble strips are a hazard for bicyclist. Care must be taken in the spacing of the rumble strips along the roadway. Lack of vertical barrier between roadway and sidewalk can make pedestrians uncomfortable and discourage use.

Shoulder is a good addition and allows room to swerve to avoid collision.
