From the first event, the purpose has been to promote the practice of high seas va a (canoe) at a regional and international level.

2 VA A IN POLYNESIA Va a is the Tahitian term for the so-called pendulum, a type of boat found in all the islands in the Polynesian region. In traditional pre-european civilization, the Va a was an essential part of daily life for island communities as a means of transport, communication and as a working tool for different types of fishing. With the modernization of these societies, these functions have gradually disappeared to give way to the era of canoe racing, Te Hoera a va a. The Va a can be found into two main disciplines: the Va a hoe, with one rower and the Va a ono, which is even more popular, with six rowers. Notable by their level of difficulty, technical and tactical nature, Va a races are much more than mere sporting events. They represent a deep authenticity of the culture and soul of a people. ZOOM IN ON THE PREVIOUS EDITION In the previous edition, Hawaiki Nui Va a was won by EDT VA A in 09:37:18, followed by TEAM OPT A (09:39:36) in second position and TEAM OPT B (09:45: 14) in third place on the podium, in the overall ranking. These tickets are valid for up to 1 year and cannot be combined. For this 26th edition, one team (from all the categories combined) will have the chance to take home a Ono High Seas (v6) va a in a lottery draw. It will be held on Wednesday 1st November 2017, after the last va a has finished the grand race. Everyone s presence is required. The winning team of the TAURE A race will be awarded with 6 air tickets on behalf of Air Tahiti Nui. The winning team of the VA AHINE race will be awarded with 6 air tickets on behalf of Air Tahiti Nui for their participation in the 2018 Catalina Race.

7 Upon arrival in Tahiti, you will need to take a domestic flight with the local airline Air Tahiti to get to Huahine, the island where the race begins. Then, the different stages of the course will take you to Bora Bora, the last island of the grand race. From there, you can take a domestic flight back to Tahiti. AGES Taure a Juniors : From 17 to 19 years Cadets : 15 and 16 years old with a medical certificate for any upgrades and compulsory parental authorization. Cadets of 14 years are not authorized to participate. NB : 3 higher rankings are authorized of which ONLY ONE is for 15 years (cf rules art. 10). Va ahine PARTICIPATION CONDITIONS Junior ladies : 18 and 19 years with a medical certificate for any upgrades. 17 years with a higher ranking medical certificate and compulsory parental authorization. NB: 3 higher rankings are authorized of which ONLY ONE is for 17 years (cf rules art. 10). Senior Ladies : 20 years and over. Veteran dame : 40 years and over. NB: Rowers of 45 years and over must have an electrocardiogram (EGC) to allow them to participate (cf rule art. 8). Tane Junior Men : 19 years with a higher ranking medical certificate. 18 years with presentation of a higher ranking medical certificate. NB: 2 authorized higher rankings (cf rule art. 8). Senior Men : 20 years and over Veteran Men : 40 years and over NB: Rowers of 45 years and over must have an electrocardiogram (EGC) to allow them to participate (cf rule art. 8). These forms correctly completed should be sent to the Organizing Committee. For overseas participants, registration can be made directly on Huahine on condition that all documents required are presented (cf details below). It is advisable to contact the Organizing Committee as soon as possible. REGISTRATION FEES The club must pay a registration fee: XPF per crew in Senior and Veteran men s categories, XPF per crew : Seniors Ladies, Veterans Ladies and Junior Men s categories REQUIRED DOCUMENTS Each overseas rower must provide the following at the time of registration: A medical certificate dated within the last 2 months, attesting to the physical and medical fitness of the individual; A passport photocopy; A photo in jpg format to be used on the information sheet An insurance certificate guaranteeing the pecuniary consequences of civil liability which they may incur as a result of material, immaterial and bodily damages whatever their origin caused by any third party including race organizers Individual accident insurance Insurance with a Repatriation Allowance option In the event of insufficient coverage of the policy taken out by overseas rowers, FTV and ACOHV are exempt from any liability that may be attributable to them. For overseas clubs, the organizing committee, which is compulsory for the 3 stages, will be set up by the Organizing Committee.

8 TRANSPORT, ACCOMMODATION & EVENT ATTIRE* MARITIME TRANSPORTATION OF CLUBS BY THE TAHITI NUI 1 SHIP It is possible to travel by sea (Papeete - Huahine) and return by air (Bora bora - Tahiti) to be confirmed to the Committee. Priority is for the island crews and according to the registration list order. The boarding programme will be confirmed later. For overseas participants, bookings should be made directly to the Organizing Committee by . The regulation will be made with the Organizing Committee once on site. TRANSPORT OF MATERIAL For overseas clubs that have booked a canoe with the Organizing Committee, the organizers will be responsible for the canoe s transport. It will be made available at the club in Huahine. The necessary adjustments are the responsibility of the club. For clubs that have booked a canoe with a local club, they should contact the local club directly. The Committee will not be responsible for transporting (land and sea) of these canoes. AIR TRANSPORT Air Tahiti (domestic flights), a partner for this event, offers preferential rates for flights to competition sites (up to 25% discount). These prices are valid during the period of the Hawaiki Nui Va a, on presentation of a nominative list certified by the Organizing Committee. These discounts are valid for a quota of 20 tickets per approved club. How to apply : Contact Air Tahiti directly to make your reservations stating your participation in the event (after registration with the Organizing Committee). Tickets must be paid by bank transfer only to Air Tahiti (Group service at group@airtahiti.pf) once your reservation has been made and confirmed. Air Tahiti Nui, partner of the event, offers preferential rates for international clubs wishing to participate in this great race. For overseas participants, coupons can be collected directly in Huahine (in the Organizing Committee tent) during the Va a weighing. 15 Lycra t-shirts and caps per Senior Men s or Veteran Men s crews 9 Lycra t-shirts per Senior Ladies, Veteran Ladies and Junior Men s crews At each start / finish, as well as during the award ceremonies of each stage, the rowers must present themselves in the official uniform. The uniform should not in any way be damaged. The club can print on the back of the t-shirt. However, it must not have any brand competing with brands of products distributed by COHV s partner sponsors printed. (cf.
