Jeff Graba THE MEET The University of Pittsburgh women s gymnastics team will travel to Auburn, Ala., marking the first time the Panthers take on an SEC program since 2013 when Auburn visited the Fitzgerald Field House. Auburn will use their final home meet as senior night, honoring four seniors. Pitt looks to improve on their last outing at West Virginia where they finished fourth in the quad meet with a score of Earlier in the weekend, the Panthers posted a season-high during their senior night at the Fitzgerald Field House. The score was good for second, defeating Michigan State and Towson, while falling to West Virginia. Pitt enter the weekend with an RQS of , 49th in the nation. SCOUTING AUBURN The Tigers come into their final meet ranked No. 20 in the nation with an RQS of Auburn ranks in the Top 25 in all four events, including 14th on the bars with a average. The Tigers look to bounce back from a defeat at Missouri. Despite being ranked in the top 20, the Tigers have yet to win a match this season. The Tigers schedule has included matches against No. 1 Oklahoma, No. 2 LSU, No. 6 Alabama, No. 7 Georgia and No. 9 Oregon State. SERIES WITH AUBURN This will be the eighth all-time meeting between the two programs in a series dating back to the 1988 season. The Tigers hold a all-time NEWS & NOTES advantage over the Panthers and have won the last three meetings, rattling off wins in 2011, 2012 and Pitt last win against the SEC powerhouse came in the 2002 season as the Panthers captured a victory. UP NEXT Following their matchup with Auburn, Pitt will prepare for the EAGL Championships in Cary, N.C. The conference championships will take place March 18. At the conclusion of the EAGL Championships, the Panthers will head to the NCAA Regionals April 1 and NCAA Nationals April in St. Louis, MO. PEARSON NAMED EAGL SPECIALIST OF THE WEEK After winning her third consecutive vault title with a in a quad-meet with NC State, UNC and William & Mary, senior Tracey Pearson was named the EAGL Specialist of the Week. Pearson s score was good for first place as the senior ranks second in the region on vault. In addition to her performance on vault, Pearson also tied for fifth on floor with a score of 9.850, her third-straight performance with a or higher. She added a on bars for the Panthers as well. BRETT EARNS EAGL SPECIALIST NOD Sophomore Lucy Brett was named the EAGL Specialist of the week after a stunning performance on the balance beam against North Carolina. The performance on the beam was not her only highlight, as she earned another career high on the uneven bars, taking second place with a score of The award was the third individual EAGL honor of the season for the Panthers as Alecia Petrikis and Rachel Dugan have each received Rookie of the week honors. DUGAN NAMED EAGLE ROOKIE OF THE WEEK With an impressive showing in Pitt s victory over then 21st-ranked West Virginia, Rachel Dugan was named the EAGL Rookie of the Week, announced by the conference Tuesday afternoon. This is the second week in which a Pitt gymnast earned Rookie of the Week honors from the EAGL, as Alecia Petrikis was named the league s top rookie last week. PETRIKIS EARNS EAGL ROOKIE OF THE WEEK NOD Just a few days after competing in her fi rst collegiate meet, freshman Alecia Petrikis was named the East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL) Rookie of the Week on Jan. 10. Petrikis took second on fl oor against regional powerhouse Ohio State, scoring a to tie with teammate Tracey Pearson for the top spot. Petrikis was one of just three Panthers to post a score of or higher and was one of four freshmen who contributed for the squad in its season debut against the Buckeyes. In addition, Petrikis was also named the First National Bank Pitt Athlete of the Week for her performance. MEET YOUR CAPTAINS Pitt will be led by a trio of talent as Tracey Pearson, Kelly Burak and Dani Hall will share captain duties. Pearson returns as the Panthers top all-arounder, taking 14th at the regional meet in the all-around with a score of A beam specialist, Burak was an alternate at the regional meet, earning EAGL All-Tournament first-team recognition after a sixth-place finish at the conference meet. As a junior, Hall contributes on floor, beam and bars for the Panthers, garnering EAGL All-Tournament second-team on fl oor last season.
