He says that it launches much better with a left hand prop. Also another 1/2A Combat model he got at a swap meet. He added booms and elevator and flies it with a left-hand crank Tee Dee.049. He has two of these in.049 size and one.35 size. Tom Collier Veco Warrior, now complete and ready to fly. He has a McCoy.19 in it that runs on 29% Castor, 5% Nitro fuel. He fully detailed the cockpit with leather seats, moveable joystick and a brass-framed windshield. Larry Renger He showed off the electric power system that will be used on the new club trainers. Also he showed off a B Baby Clown ARC he is assembling for Old Time, Classic and Leprechaun. Howard Doering Print of a painting of a J2 Cub. The original painting was done by his father. Randy Heydon A box of junk, a.35 size C/L airplane and a really ancient Controlaire reed system transmitter. All of this was donated to the club. He also brought an old mouse race trainer called the Burp from an Aeromodeler article. Finally, he had an Air Progress magazine that showed the deco on a P-40 that was painted red. Old Business John Wright reviewed the Knights Joust contest. 37 people helped at the contest. Andy Borgogna and his wife Jackie worked BOTH days, as did Lee Strickland. An easy-up shelter is to be purchased and bolt-down locations drilled into the tarmac at the Pit station. One downer is that the same small crew is always the ones doing the packing and clean-up after the contest. WE NEED MORE HELP! Oddly enough we are tired and want to go home too, and most of the clean-up guys have judged, set up, and otherwise worked the contest. It just ain t right. John also discussed an Aviation Summer Camp he came across. We will attempt to work CL flying into their curriculum. Andy and Larry to help out with an electric demo. Andy, Larry, John and Dave Kick to get Trainer Certified by the AMA so that when we teach, both we and the student are insured. Cost is $5 each for a year. The Valley Circle Burners Teach & Fly was a success with 20 flights by beginners and 4 new club members! New Business Rhodes was flying and the wind changed (that happens?, naaah!) Anyway, by the time the judges got to their new spot, they completely missed one maneuver. They were going to give him a new attempt, but he overran, so the point was moot. No other finagling the schedule in hopes of better wind Andy, the pit bull. Uh Boss announced that, due to some flaky actions by persons who shall remain nameless, he has three rules by which he will operate in the future. There will be no finagling to move your flight to get better weather. These rules will be announced at the pilots meeting in the future. 1. If you can t make it on time it is an automatic attempt. The pilot is responsible for maintaining vigilance on the position in the flight order. You snooze you lose! 2. If you are judging, he will appropriately reschedule your flights 3. If 2 events conflict, he will appropriately reschedule one of your flights and carrier stuff from our own members. Howard Doering is getting estimates on crack repair and re-surfacing the Whittier field. The VCB seem to have this in hand for Sepulveda. We should find out how they managed both technically and financially. It was voted to reimburse Larry for the electric power equipment he selected on the club s behalf. Regarding the Mackey Meet, Eric Rule was the CD, but now has a higher priority commitment (this is POSSIBLE?). So he will continue to make all the arrangements for the meet and banquet. However, Andy will take over as Master of Ceremonies at the banquet and Frank Martin will handle the chores of being CD at the contest. John Wright is the guy we need to roast. Start digging up the dirt! Photos of the garage, perhaps? Warren Walker brought up a situation that happened at the Joust. Jim 4. It will also be announced that if you don t attend the pilots meeting and follow the appearance judging time and location, you will NOT get appearance points. Stan Tyler brought up the January AMA Convention. He thought we could make major improvements in our presentation. He will contact the Valley Circle Burners about getting a 2 nd booth, setting up a video on a larger screen and generally doing some up-front planning. (What a concept!) Larry is to work up a photo display, including contacting friends for scale model photos. We can get lots of combat, stunt, speed

8 Page 8 Carrier at the Joust Weather was excellent as nine pilots entered 20 planes in the day s events. Due to low entries in previous years (only two in 2009), 15 and SIG Skyray were combined into one class. We were amazed when nine 15 planes and four Skyrays were entered this year! Places were determined by percent of the 2010 NCS top score in their respective class. The top three placing planes all exceeded the 2010 top scores. In his first 15 Carrier contest, Kevin Kusik competed against the top 2010 Sportsman 15 score and the result was 114%. He certainly raised the bar for other Sportsman entrants around the country. Kevin is usually found in the Racing or Speed circles so we were glad to see him on deck. Eric Conley entered his electric-powered 15 and scored 101.5% while Burt scored %. Eric may want to provide more details of his plane and motor combination at a later date. Suffice it to say his 2 ½ pound plane, nearly the size of a 36 glow plane, running a pusher 9-6 prop was AWSOME!!!! Absolutely reliable, it sets the standard for the 15 class. Perhaps the NCS might want to separate the glow and electric power plants now. Rob Wright-designed P-51 and Sea Fury Snipers were flown by himself and Dave Dawson. They looked very scale-like in the air. Burt s Skyray is probably the best flying example of that design that I ve seen. With so much activity in 15/Skyray, not many flights were made in the AMA class. Burt put in an excellent flight with his Conley-designed Bf-109T Profile. Kevin flew his new Joe Just profile kit transformed into a F6F Hellcat. It looks to be a very stable plane for a new Carrier pilot. Wait. that is exactly why Joe designed it!
