I ll start off this month in stating that it s not time to beat the bushes, it s time to burn the bushes for those category sponsorships for the Virginia Shootout that s now less than a month away. We re behind on selling sponsorships for the show so everyone s help is needed and appreciated. Arthur Harris, Tim Ward and I traveled to IPMS/Northern Virginia for their Modelers Palooza contest and show on Saturday May 9 th where we met up with Bob Rohrback and Ken Bowyer. The show was a lot of fun and there was an excellent turn out of vendors and modelers, a great raffle and several demos that I was able to take in on resin casting and air brush techniques. Congratulations to Tom Henderson and all of the Northern Virginia grew for an enjoyable and successful show. Elections for IPMS/USA officers are now taking place until September. If you are an IPMS/USA member be, sure to take the time and cast your vote. They ve made the voting process very easy in that you can either vote on-line at ipmsusa.org or you can mail in the ballot that was inserted into the latest issue of the IPMS Journal. Some of the candidates are running unopposed but a vote of confidence would be greatly appreciated I m sure. Those of you who have let your national membership expire, rejoin and vote! This weekend, June 26 th and 27 th the Star City Motor Madness will take place on the streets of downtown Roanoke and on Williamson Road. George Barris will return as the featured guest with nine of his creations on display Saturday including a replica of the 60 s TV Batmobile. Check out the show web site for additional information at All of the proceeds will benefit the Virginia Museum of Transportation. This month we ll have two contests, along with the open category contest we ll have the one hour build. After one hour has expired the members will cast their vote for the best model whether their finished or not. And a last bit of good news from Dick Montgomery is that Glen Martin will be staying on as the Region 2 coordinator. I for one will be glad he s decided to stay on. 2 JUNE SPRUE 2 SPRUE JULY It's time again for that famous "whatisit?" contest. Take a gander at the picture to the right, fill out the ballot at the meeting and Prize courtesy of Glug...glug...gasp..wheeeew!!!!.....Ahoy sub-mariners (anyone below the captain is a sub-mariner, get it???)...the captain has come back up for air this month. Sorry about no recon from last month. Had a bit of scurvy, I think. Something this summer has hit me hard and took my sea-legs out from under me. But now I'm back in the "nest" and although the waves look choppy, I can make out the lighthouse with its welcome beacon. Speaking of light on the horizon, the "plaque" crew got together at Ed's house last week and put the finishing touches on 250 Shoot-Out plaques and are ready to go. Thanks to all who helped and especially Ed who supplied the venue and 1,000 (almost straightly) drilled holes, Tim M. who supplied the artwork, and Terry who supplied us with a delightful repast of fried bird and tater salad. Yum- Yum...sal---lute!!!!! We worked as a well-oiled machine and had the job knocked out in about 5 hours. And who said we couldn't get anything built?!?!?!? Also want to send out "kudos" (no pun intended) to Jay and Ann for getting the order into us so quick. Much appreciated. While I'm throwing out plaudits. Let me thank the crew who showed up in Bedford for our annual fund-raiser for the D-Day Memorial. Our members, Lynchburg and Richmond modelers came together to help raise over $200 for the Memorial and show young and old alike some of the material and weapons that were used during the last "War to end all Wars". I had a great conversation with two youngsters who basically "schooled" me on naval weapons and tactics. It was refreshing to know that history is still alive and well. Thanks also as always to April Cheek for her help, smiling face, glowing personality and her yearly pizza run. It's good to know that someone has taken it heart to make sure that IPMS members get a meal every now and then. I was starting to waste away. Not!!!! But seriously now, folks, it's time to get serious. We are only 1 month away from our Shoot-Out and we have a lot of work still to do. Have you sold your sponsorships? Have you donated to the raffle?? Have you cleared off shelf space for future vendor purchases??? Have you built a model???? If you answered "no" to any of the previous questions, you're probably not alone. But that don't make it right!!! Get busy!!! We need to sell these sponsorships, fill the raffle box, etc, etc. Please bring in your sponsorships and raffle donations to the meeting this Thursday and be ready to be put to work for the Shoot- Out. We'll have a great time, I promise. Now, where's my snorkel and flippers...i lost my rubber duckie??!??!?!? Tim Newsletter Editor - Dennis Smith Eastsmith1@aol.com IPMS/Roanoke Valley meets the second and fourth Thursday of every month at the Science Museum located in downtown Roanoke at the "Center in the Square". The second Thursday building meetings are held in the classroom on the fifth floor and the fourth Thursday meetings are held on the same floor in the Conference room. All meetings start at 7:00pm. From Glen Martin OK, here it is, right off the presses. IPMS Richmond with help from IPMS AMPSCVA will be hosting the 2010 October Regional should no other bids come in before the Region 2 business meeting this October. If that does happen, I'll have to weigh the bids and ask help from some of my Regional Coordinator friends to help me make the decision on which one to go with. But, all indications right now are that IPMS Richmond is the only chapter that is interested in hosting the Regional in Now, the show planning is already taking place. Ashley Abernathy, past IPMS Richmond President will be the show chair. Ashley is armed with great ideas and a committee that is highly motivated to think outside the box. IPMS Richmond has always taken a lead in trying new things. Next year, the Regional will be hot. We are looking to expand on the 130 vendor tables and 600 models we had this year for our regular show and hope to have 200 vendor tables for the Regional. If we can, this will make the show a super Regional by far so please make your plans to attend this show next year. More on this show will be coming up in the months ahead. Remember, this is contingent upon no other bids being received as well as the business meeting approving the show bid by IPMS Richmond. This will be the first in over 20 years for Richmond.

The MIG-21 holds the record as the worlds most widely used - fighter. It has been consistently modified and upgraded with some 10,000 aircraft being produced both in the Soviet Union and other countries including Poland, Yugoslavia, and India. Possessing better transonic acceleration, a smaller turning circle, and superior airfield performance to the Mirage; its weakness is a modest radius of action. Early models did not have all weather capabilities. This is a multi-role variant of the aircraft. Total production on the Mirage III E including exports totaled 523 aircraft. The III E is able to exceed Mach 2 in level flight.

Model building will be the main focus although other club activities with garner points. This gives everyone a chance to be a model citizen. For working on a model at the build meeting 1 point For working on a model at a scheduled outside demo or Entering a completed new model in the monthly club contest 2 points For entering a new completed model in an IPMS or other contest Sponsored by others 3 points (each model) RULES: 1. For build meetings or outside demos, the same model may be used for score until its completion. 2. A new completed model is one that has not been entered in the club contest previously unless it was a stand alone entry and later part of a collection, group, or diorama. 3. A new completed model is one that has not been entered in the same IPMS contest previously unless it was a stand alone entry and later part of a collection, group, or diorama. In other words, it can make the circuit but cannot be counted for points the second time around for instance in the Lynchburg Contest. 4. Contest awards do not affect the point tally. 5. For point purposes, a model is defined as any vehicle, plane, ship, building, figure (or set of figures) or any kit that normally would be considered a model if displayed alone. Conversion kits, photo etches, or other accessory sets do not count as a separate model for points.
