4 Location: GC Ballrooms Day October 30th, 2017 Location: WUC Lobby Day November 1st, 2017 Location: GC Computer Labs Court Voting 8:00AM-4:00PM BBC WUC Tabling hallway Engineering center I-75 campus Court Voting 8:00AM-4:00PM MMC GC Tabling hallway Engineering center I-75 campus Court Eligibility To be eligible to apply for the Homecoming Court, a student must meet the following requirements: 1. Possess a cumulative GPA of 2.80 or above. All GPAs will be verified through Panthersoft. 2. Be a full-time student at FIU registered for at least 12 undergraduate credits or six graduate credits. Seniors who are enrolled in less than 12 undergraduate credits must contact the Court Affairs Chair. 3. Be in good financial, judicial, and academic standing with the university. 4. Must currently be in at least one involvement at FIU (other than a Greek organization). 5. Depending on completed credit standing, the homecoming nominee will be able to represent one of the following court positions: a completed credits - Duke & Duchess b completed credits - Prince & Princess c. 90+ completed credits - King & Queen *Transfer credits apply *Credits In-Progress do not count toward completed credits 3

5 Applications 1. All students who qualify to apply for Homecoming Court must submit the application no later than September 22nd, The application can be found online at hc.fiu.edu under Events. Late submissions will not be accepted. 2. All applicants must schedule and attend an interview during the week of September 25th through September 29th, Failure to attend an interview will result in automatic disqualification. a. Candidates must be dressed in business attire. b. Candidates will be interviewed by a panel of faculty and/or staff. c. Interviews will be scored on a point-based evaluation sheet that covers 4 different categories. d. Final Court candidates will be announced October 6th, 2017 at 5:00PM. e. Final Court candidates will receive points for their interview that will go towards their overall total. The 4 interview categories consist of: Presentation: Ex. Are they dressed appropriately? Ex. Are they confident in their answers? Character: Ex. Are they energetic and memorable during the interview? Ex. How have they helped the FIU community grow? FIU Spirit: 4

6 Ex. How involved are they on campus? Ex. Do they embody true FIU spirit? Representation: Ex. Will they be a positive representation of FIU? Ex. Will they be able to follow through with the responsibilities of the title? Point System Duke & Duchess will receive points by participating the following: 1. Attending an interview conducted by a panel of FIU faculty and/or staff 2. Raising funds for Roar it Forward 3. Participating in the hashtag competition 4. Participating in Unleash the Crown 5. Attending all required Homecoming events Prince & Princess will receive points by participating the following: 1. Attending an interview conducted by a panel of FIU faculty and/or staff 2. Raising funds for Roar it Forward 3. Participating in the hashtag competition 4. Participating in Unleash the Crown 5. Attending all required Homecoming events 6. Obtaining votes through campaigning King & Queen will receive points by participating the following: 1. Attending an interview conducted by a panel of FIU faculty and/or staff 2. Raising funds for Roar it Forward 3. Participating in the hashtag competition 4. Participating in Unleash the Crown 5. Attending all required Homecoming events 6. Obtaining votes through campaigning 5

7 Roar it Forward Candidates will have the week of October 22nd, 2017 till October 29th, 2017, Pageant Day, to raise funds for Roar it Forward. The funds raised will directly benefit our Panther Food Pantry. 1. All promotional materials and items sold must be approved by the Court Affairs Chair before being presented to the public. The Assistant Director of Administration and the Court Affairs Chair has the discretion to deny any material they feel unfit. 2. At the end of each day, candidates must report the amount of money raised to the Court Affairs Chair. They must turn in all the money raised by 6:00 PM on October 29th, Candidates will have a final chance to raise money during the speed round at Unleash the Crown. 4. Raising funds for Roar it Forward will allow candidates to gain points towards their final total. 6

8 #Hashtag Contest Candidates will participate in a photo shoot on October 20th, 2017, and pick their official pageant photo that will be shared through Instagram.Candidates can receive points by sharing their photo with the appropriate hashtags. 1. Each Candidate will be assigned a hashtag. 2. Points will be rewarded for the amount of photos with the appropriate hashtags. 3. You may post as many times as you want from a personal account. 4. No secondary account s posts will be counted to the candidate s total. a. If a post is seen from a Rho Gamma, fake account, or any account that was created for the sole purpose of posting said pictures, that candidate will be issued a violation. 5. Account must be made public for the post to count. 6. All accounts must follow FIUHC and accept FIUHC to follow back. 7. All posts must include: a. Candidate's hashtag b. Hashtag #FIUHC and 8. All posts will be accounted for the day of Unleash the Crown. Any posts deleted before then will not be counted. a. Competition starts: October 22nd, 2017 at 12 AM b. Competition ends: October 29th, 2017 at 12 PM 7

9 Unleash the Crown On October 29th, 2017, candidates will attend Unleash the Crown, and participate in four categories that will allow them to receive points towards their overall total. The pageant will consist of the following: 1. Candidates must arrive two hours prior to the time the pageant begins, or at the time they were scheduled to rehearse if requested. Tardiness is unacceptable and will result in a deduction of points from pageant score. 2. If candidates wish to practice the pageant on stage, they must notify the Court Affairs Chair a week in advance. 3. The pageant is divided into the following rounds: a. Presentation i. Candidates will present in FIU attire to show Panther Pride and will state the following: 1. Name 2. Involvement(s) on campus 3. Favorite FIU Memory b. FIU Trivia (Jeopardy style) i. Candidates will come on stage together to answer questions about the university and Homecoming. ii. Candidates will dress in their involvement gear. c. Formal question i. Last round of the pageant will consist of candidates answering questions about certain issues on campus, and stating why they 8

10 deserve to win their respective titles. ii. Candidates will be dressed in formal wear. d. Candidates will close out the pageant portion by singing the alma mater together. Crowning A. Duke/Duchess will be crowned at the Unleash the Crown on October 29th, B. Prince/Princess will be crowned at Panther s Got Talent on November 2nd, C. King/Queen will be crowned at Homecoming Game on November 4th, Rules for Campaigning 1. Homecoming Court elections will take place on both MMC and BBC campuses. Voting in BBC will take place in the Wolf Center on October 30th, 2017 from8:00am-4:00pm. Voting in MMC will take place in the GC Computer Lab on November 1st, 2017 from 8:00AM-4:00PM. 2. Candidates are permitted to have others help them campaign, but they are the only ones allowed to pass out the official homecoming flyer. A violation will be issued for this infraction. 3. Candidates are permitted to campaign through social media starting October 23rd, 2017 once their official court headshots are posted on the Homecoming Council s instagram page. Campaigning through social media includes the use of Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, Google+, servers, etc. The use of educational sites such as Blackboard and Moodle to campaign are not permitted. A violation will be issued for this infraction. 4. Personal technology, such as laptops and cellphones, cannot be set up as 9

11 polling stations by any individual or team during the election. A violation will be issued for this infraction. 5. Absolutely no bashing of other candidates or teams throughout this experience. If any Homecoming Council members are present or become aware of this behavior, they will contact the Court Affairs Chair who will decide whether that candidate will be disqualified. (Concrete proof such as video, recording or personal observation by a Homecoming Council member is required in order for disqualification.) 6. No promotional materials (pens, shirts, food, etc.) are permitted with the exception of the official homecoming flyer, which will be provided by the Homecoming Council. A violation will be issued for this infraction. 7. Candidates are allowed one poster board (2 X3 ) to promote themselves and FIU. The poster may not have anything regarding the following: a. Homecoming Council members b. Past/Present Court Title holders c. Current court candidates d. Greek affiliation The Assistant Director of Administration and the Court Affairs Chair has the discretion to deny any poster if it is not appropriate in size or content. It will be due on October 13th in the Homecoming Office (GC 2214). They will be displayed in the GC ballrooms during the pageant and in the GC Pit / Wolf Center on voting day. 8. Violations will only be issued by the Homecoming Council. If the Homecoming Council does not witness infraction, a violation will not be issued. 10

12 9. To ensure that candidates are following the campaigning rules, candidates must become social media friends with the following people: a. Court Affairs Chair b. Rules and Regulations Chairs c. Assistant Director of Administration 10. Candidates must add the individuals mentioned above on Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat and Instagram upon the submission of their application. Attendance Tardiness and absences will not be accepted. Please take into consideration whether attendance will be an issue or not before applying. The Homecoming Council is on a strict schedule and will disqualify anyone who does not follow it. That being said, you must follow these rules to stay in the process and receive points: 1. All candidates are official ambassadors for the promotion of school spirit. They are mandated to attend all 2017 Homecoming events that require said candidate to be presented to the audience in order to gain attendance points. 2. All candidates are required to attend: The photo shoot Unleash The Crown Rehearsal Panther s Got Talent Trail of the Torch Panther Prowl Panthermonium Parade Royal Reunion Homecoming Game 3. Unless stated otherwise, candidates can only check in and check out of events with the Court Affairs Chair. It is each candidate s responsibility to locate the Court Affairs Chair the moment they arrive at an event to ensure they are marked 11

13 present. Being tardy will result in a deduction of points from the candidate s score. 4. Failure to attend all events without a valid excuse will result in a deduction of points. Responsibilities and Expectations 1. Homecoming winners will be representing the Homecoming Council and will show school spirit before, during, and after the 2017 Homecoming Court is announced. 2. The final candidates for Duke/Duchess, Prince/ Princess, and King/Queen will be required to attend all Homecoming events. 3. The Homecoming Court is expected to go to as many FIU Sporting Events (specifically football) as possible wearing their crown and sash. 4. They must behave according to the FIU Student Code of Conduct. 5. Just because a participant wins a title, does not mean that title is permanent. It will be up to the individuals to carry it out to its full potential.one can lose their title due to poor academic standings and/or judicial standings with the university. 6. Winners must attend FIU events throughout the fall and spring semester hosted by the Homecoming Council. 7. Above all, one must be a model student of FIU. You are a representation of our university. You do not do the bare minimum. You go above and beyond! 12
