Expectations of Participating Teams An organization that chooses to participate in Florida International University Homecoming represents the University and will abide by the FIU Student Code of Conduct at all times. By registering to participate in any Homecoming events, organizations agree to abide by the Student Code of Conduct and to follow the rules and regulations set forth in the Rules and Regulations packet for Homecoming Paired organizations will also be held responsible for the actions of their partner organizations. Penalties incurred due to failure to attend events or failure to comply with the rules set forth by the Homecoming executive council will affect both organizations. Unruly or disruptive behavior or intoxicated participants will not be tolerated. If any member of a participating organization is found to be intoxicated or acting inappropriately during a Homecoming event, the executive board reserves the right to remove that person and disqualify their organization from the event without warning. The Homecoming council reserves the right to deny any participants or organizations entry into any Homecoming event or competition, within reason. The Homecoming executive board reserves the right to disqualify any inappropriate designs or performances. Panthers Got Talent performances, banners, or floats deemed to be inappropriate will be disqualified and not allowed to be displayed or permitted to participate in the parade. Political propaganda, profanity, and nudity are expressly forbidden for all Homecoming week events and pre-events. All decisions made by the Homecoming executive board are final. Any and all rules and regulations are subject to change at the discretion of the Homecoming executive board. Any modifications or additions to the rules and regulations will be announced appropriately. Lack of awareness and acknowledgment of the Homecoming Rules and Regulations do not excuse participants of deviant behavior. All questions or concerns should be directed to the Rules and Regulations Chairpersons, Lissy Perera and Kimberly Pizarro hcrulesreg@gmail.com 5

General Information Homecoming Mission Statement: The purpose of the Florida International University Homecoming promotes Panther pride with the goal of uniting administration, alumni, faculty, staff, and students, along with the local community, in an effort of unison and school spirit. The Homecoming Council reminds everyone that enthusiasm and enjoyment are the main goals of all Homecoming events! Application requirements: Team eligibility requires one active FIU student taking nine credits in the fall semester. All participants must be students or faculty/staff of Florida International University. Must have a full understanding of the rules and regulations. Any single participant or team can win any of the events based on their ranking at the end of each event. Total points awarded to teams or participants will determine the overall winner at the end of the week. Participation and attendance at all the events of Homecoming week will be crucial to deciding the Overall Winner. The Florida International University Homecoming Council reserves the right to keep scoring confidential. Scoring will be kept private until a cumulative total is reached at the end of Homecoming week. At this time team captains can inquire as to their respective team scores. Participation will earn more points than attendance, but certain events will reward attendance as well. That includes events outside of Homecoming week. It is strongly recommended that you choose a team captain; the team s captains will have to be present at one of the three Homecoming Rules meetings. Any material that is to be submitted to the Homecoming council (including registration forms, sketches, rosters, banners, and music) must be turned in digitally via or at any of the Rules and Regulations meetings. The Team Registration Form needs to be submitted in by September 16 th, 2016 at 11:45pm. This form can be found online at hc.fiu.edu. The team s representatives are responsible for conveying any and all information discussed at the Rules and Regulations meetings to their teams. A team may choose whether to participate in one or more events. They are not limited to the number of events they may participate in. All students must abide by the University Policies and Procedures, FIU Student Code of Conduct, and by the Environmental Health and Safety contained in the student handbook. 6

If a team is participating in an event that requires a roster, the roster must be submitted by September 16 th at 11:45pm to hc.fiu.edu. The roster form requires the name of the participants and their Panther IDs. Team Captains must attend at least ONE General Rules Meeting in order to participate in any Homecoming 2016 event. If any participant of a competing team violates any of the rules listed here in the 2016 Homecoming Rules & Regulation Packet he/she will be removed from the competition roster as well as their group/organization. All team captains are responsible for attending all pre scheduled team meetings. All team members should be familiar with all the rules and regulations outlined in this packet. 7

Team Captains For the 2016 Homecoming, the Team Captain will hold a small but important role. The team captain will be trusted to complete the following tasks: Panthers Got Talent Waiver Pick-Up/Drop-Off For those teams participating in the Panthers Got Talent event, waivers must be signed BY EVERY PARTICIPANT that is eligible to participate in the event itself. Team captains will receive a list of dates and times where they can sign-out for their teams waiver folder. The team captain must have their ENTIRE team sign the spaces required by the Homecoming Council. Team captains will need to return the folder to the Homecoming Office and a schedule will also include drop-off dates. Failure to complete this task will result in the disqualification of your team/organization. Attending Team Captain Meetings The Rules & Regulations Chairpersons alongside the AD of Administration will conduct a series of meetings closer to the time of Homecoming. These meetings will provide an overview of the Homecoming festivities. Failure to complete this task will result in the disqualification of your team/organization. Wednesday, September 7th (Mandatory for Team Captains) Location: GC 316 MMC General Rules meeting at 3:00pm Wednesday, September 14th (Mandatory for Team Captains) Location: WUC 159 Wednesday, September 21st (Mandatory for Team Captains) Location: GC 316 BBC General Rules meeting at 1:00pm MMC General Rules meeting at 3:00pm Please Note: Team Captains only need to attend ONE meeting. 8

Waivers Waivers will be collected electronically. All participants must sign a waiver in order to participate in Panthers Got Talent and Parade. The Parade waivers will be available on the Parade Packet, as well as a link at hc.fiu.edu. All waivers must be submitted prior to the start of said event. Failure to submit the documents will result in the disqualification of your team. PANTHERS GOT TALENT WAIVER Provide Your Team with Time Management Supervision The Homecoming Council trusts team captains to ensure that their team is present and prepared for the event. Failure to complete this task will result in the disqualification of your team/organization. Any question pertaining to the Team Captain Responsibilities should be directed to Lissy Perera and Kimberly Pizarro, Rules and Regulations Chairpersons. 9

This competition is designed to have FIU students help promote two of the largest traditional Homecoming events hosted every year, the Panther Prowl Comedy Show and the Panthermonium Concert. Having registered teams promote ticket sales, your team can earn points every time your team is listed as the reason someone has purchased a ticket. FIU students receive free student tickets to all events. For Panthermonium, free tickets are located in the bleachers of the FIU Football Stadium. Floor tickets are available to be purchased by FIU students and community members. Competition Rules: Tickets must be purchased within the time frame of the competition. Any tickets sales made after the closing/tallying of sales will therefore not be counted. FIU students or members of the community can purchase tickets. Promoting Guidelines: When a customer proceeds to purchase a 2016 Panthermonium Ticket or 2016 Panther Prowl Ticket, they will be prompted to enter the name of the Team they are purchasing under. You must use your official Homecoming Team Name to receive credit (use of Greek organizations, student organizations, etc. will not be counted). 16 Frequently Asked Questions When is the final due date for rosters? The final date for rosters will be September 16th. We won t be allowing people to sign up past that date. What events are counted for overall? The Homecoming council reserves the right to keep scoring confidential. Consider every event mandatory and important in regards to points. When is Overall Winner announced? The overall winner will be announced at halftime of the Homecoming game. When are general rules meetings? General rules meetings will take place on the following dates: September 7 th, September 14 th, and September 21 st. Team captains are required to attend one of the three General Rules Meetings. Can somebody replace me on the roster for Panthers Got Talent? Yes, absolutely. The Homecoming council understands that injuries may cause certain participants to drop out. For that purpose, teams have until October 17th to change their roster. If any alternatives are to be used, send ONE detailing the names and panther ID s of those replacements. Up to two replacements may be utilized. How do I join a team? The bare requirement for a roster is one person. A solo team can win Homecoming so we absolutely encourage making a team even if you re not a part of any organization. If you re looking to get involved in Homecoming, and you want to join a team with an established pedigree, joining an organization on campus that has taken a part in Homecoming in the past (SPC, BSU, Greek organizations, etc.) may be the best option. It s entirely up to you, and the Homecoming council fully encourages you to take the opportunity to demonstrate your Panther pride! Can I include any song in my Panthers Got Talent performance? You can include any song you want, but it must be edited for content and lyrics. Questions about appropriateness may be directed toward Lissy Perera and Kimberly Pizarro, Rules and Regulation Chairperson, at hcrulesreg@gmail.com. 16
