1 LipSync Coordinators: MTC SAB LipSync Battle Rules MTC Student Advisory Board (SAB) & the Office of Student Life For assistance contact: Tanisha Brown, , Kaci Greene, , or Event Information: The SAB LipSync Battle is a fundraiser for the Oliver Gospel Mission s Toby s Place. It will take place on Friday, March 18th at 7 p.m. at The MTC Harbison Theatre. Doors will open for admission at 6 p.m. Tickets can be purchased at the door or in advance at Tickets are $6/person. Every event attendee and LipSync Battle participant must pay the $6 ticket price as a part of the fundraising process. All net profits will be donated to Toby s Place. Donations are welcome on-site and through the link above. Refunds will not be permitted due to the fundraising nature of this event. All MTC students, faculty, staff and Alumni Association members are welcome to participate in the Battle. Dress rehearsals will be on Wednesday, March 16 th and Thursday, March 17 th between 4:30 and 9:30 p.m. and assigned times will be communicated via to the main contact address you provide. Each individual or team will be allowed up to 30 minutes on stage for rehearsal. Participants must attend one rehearsal and teams of participants must attend the same rehearsal date/time. Additional rehearsals at the MTC Harbison Theatre will not be granted under any circumstances; however, you are welcome to schedule unlimited rehearsals off campus at your convenience. MTC IDs and Alumni Association membership cards will be verified at dress rehearsal check-in.

2 The call time for participant arrival at the venue for the SAB LipSync Battle will be scheduled separately and communicated via to the main contact address you provide. MTC IDs and Alumni Association membership cards will be verified at call time check-in. Guests will not be allowed to bring any food or drink into the auditorium. All LipSync Battle participants and attendees must abide by the Midlands Technical College Student Handbook. Failure to do so could result in deductions, disqualification and/or loss of participation for future activities. No audience members will be allowed backstage during the night of the performance. Neither will they be allowed into the designated areas reserved for judges or LipSync Battle participants only. Refunds will not be awarded. 3 2016 MTC SAB LipSync Battle Participant Information Rules & Policies Participation: Rosters must include a minimum of 1 participant and are limited to no more than 25 participants in a team. All participants must be current Midlands Technical College student, faculty and/or staff who are in good standing with the College. Song selection will be confirmed in the order the applications are received, please select 3 choices. You will be allowed to have up to 2 songs in your performance. If there is any need for change, we follow-up as needed. Full performance time must be between 3 and 5 minutes. Participants are subject to verification at any time via MTC IDs and Alumni Association membership cards as well as MTC Records, the Cashier Office for enrollment verification and their respective club or organizations to ensure that this policy is enforced. All potentially late arrivals to dress rehearsal or the live event should be reported as soon as possible to the LipSync Battle check-in table at the entrance of the MTC Harbison Theatre. Anyone who does not check in will not be allowed to perform unless we were notified and it was approved in advance. Approved late arrivals must report to the check-in table as well. Each performer will receive a wristband at check-in the night of the MTC SAB LipSync Battle and will be required to keep it on for the duration of the event. Only individuals who are listed on the team roster and are wearing a wristband will be allowed backstage, on stage or in the designated seating areas. Communication: It is expected that all questions and concerns regarding MTC SAB LipSync Battle be addressed through the Office of Student Life by the designated LipSync Battle participant/main contact from each organization/team registered. Any inappropriate communication with the LipSync chairs by individual participants will result in point deductions as determined by the MTC SAB and Office of Student Life. 4 Each individual or team will be allowed only 1 prescheduled on-site dress rehearsal at the MTC Harbison Theatre (see pages 1-2). Any additional practices must be coordinated by the team and occur off-site (i.e. not on any MTC campus). Understand that your dress rehearsal should be performance ready! A full run through with prepared CD must happen at that time each team will receive up to 30 minutes on stage (including critiques and reminders). Skit: Each full performance should be 3-5 minutes in length. Each song must include at least one LipSyncer with a maximum of two songs. One point is deducted for every 10 seconds a performance extends beyond 5 minutes. Exact time will be documented, but time will be rounded up to the nearest 10 seconds. For example: 5 minutes, 6 seconds receives a 1 pt. deduction. All skits should utilize family-friendly language and music must be radio edit versions. Choreography: All choreography is subject to approval by MTC SAB and the Office of Student Life. If you have any questions as to whether a stunt or dance move will be approved, please stop by the Office of Student Life at ASC 126 or BSC 202. All choreography should be family-friendly and appropriate. All stunts must be approved by the MTC SAB and the Office of Student Life. All stunts should be kept at waist level or lower. No cheerleading or martial arts stunts will be allowed. Lighting: Options for lighting will be lights on or lights off. Your team will be responsible for turning in exact times during your run through time. Using the spotlight is an option, but your team must provide the timing for theatre staff. If you have any questions about what lighting options will be available, please ask the LipSync chairs.

5 Costumes: Official, coordinated and/or newly purchased costumes are not required. However, what you wear during dress rehearsal will be considered your costume for the show. All costumes are subject to approval by MTC SAB and the Office of Student Life. If you have any questions as to whether costumes will be approved, please ask during rehearsal. Please bring back-up options / alternatives for questionable costumes. General Rule: Private parts must be fully covered and clothed. No glitter, glue, or feathers will be allowed as part of any costume or prop. If costumes are deemed inappropriate they will not be allowed on stage. Violators are subject to penalties up to a 10 point deduction and including your show being canceled and removal from the theatre. All costumes and props must be completely removed from stage after your act or 5 point deductions will occur for each item remaining. All costumes must be worn at dress rehearsal or will not be allowed on stage at during the performance. Alcohol: Any performer found to be visibly intoxicated will not be allowed to participate in LipSync and will receive a minimum 50 point deduction for their team. The individual will be asked to leave the MTC Harbison Theatre immediately. Immediate Disqualification Any Alcohol Violations or Violence (All organizations in a Team will be held accountable of all actions.) Food and/or drink will not be allowed for participants unless they are consumed in the green room. All items must be sealed or unopened in order to be admitted. Questionable items will be checked by MTC SAB LipSync Battle Committee and thrown away if necessary.

6 Judging Criteria: The LipSync Battle Judge Panel will be comprised of a variety of faculty, staff and/ or alumni members; up to five judges will be selected. They will be looking for synchronicity, creativity, accuracy, energy, and team participation. Awards and points will be given to the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place teams overall, as well as to the 1st place teams in the Best Costume, Best Choreography and Best Skit creativity. More details and an example judge s sheet will be delivered to you via with your dress rehearsal time. Judges will consider a number of categories: Skit LipSync Skill Choreography Costumes Props Level of Enthusiasm / Energy Crowd Response 20 points 10 points 20 points 10 points 10 points 15 points 15 points Deductions: All Team s performances and actions will be subject to point deductions, if any SAB LipSync Battle or MTC Student Handbook policy is not followed. 5 points - Delay of dress rehearsal or cause rearrange order of rehearsal/event 10 point - Inappropriate costumes 10 points - Unapproved Stunts 10 points - Inappropriate prop usage or actions 1 point - Every additional 10 seconds over time limit 5 points - Touching the curtains 5 points - Talking/mouthing words when not LipSyncing 50 points - Alcohol violations 50 points - MTC Student Handbook violations Up to 100 total points All participants bags will be searched upon entry by either a member of MTC SAB LipSync Battle Committee or other designated security.
