1 2017 Cabot Dance Invitational Fall Festival of Dance Competition Information Competition Date & Time: Saturday, October 28, 2017 This is an ACT Test Day. Junior High competition will begin at TBA. Senior High Competition will begin approximately 30 minutes after Junior High Awards are completed. Direction and hotel information are available by contacting Sarah Hillenburg at or All school teams will adhere to NFHS Spirit Rules. The Arkansas Activities Association sanctions at this competition. Coaches: Upon arrival, you will receive a packet of information at the registration desk. All coaches must sign the NFHS/AAA Compliance form before their team can perform. There will be a coaches meeting for junior high and senior high 30 minutes prior to the beginning of your competition. Classifications: Schools will compete based on their AAA classification (2A, 3A, 4A, 5A, 6A or 7A) and division (junior high, junior varsity or senior high). Regional junior high and senior high team competition classifications will be split 2A/3A/4A and 5A/6A/7A. This means all 2A, 3A & 4A teams will compete against each other and all 5A, 6A, & 7A teams will compete against each other. EXCEPTION: If FIVE or more teams from 2A/3A/4A or 5A/6A/7A compete in the same category, then the classifications will be separated. Junior varsity teams will not be split by classification. Divisions: Junior High Teams competition will begin at TBA Junior Varsity Teams will compete during the senior high competition as a separate group Senior High Teams competition will begin approximately 30 minutes following the junior high awards Entry Information: Categories will be jazz, kick, hip hop and pom. Teams may enter as many categories as they like. The entry fee will be $6.00 per dancer per routine. Entry and payment must be received by October 6, Individial Skills Competition: Dancers from the participating teams may compete in the individual skills competitions. Participants will pay $5 on site to compete for each skill. The skills are Best Pirouette, Best Turn Sequence, Best Jump Sequence and Best Leap Sequence. Junior High members will compete prior to the junior high awards. Senior High and Junior Varsity will compete together prior to the senior high awards. Awards will be given to 1 st, 2 nd and 3 rd place in each skill.

2 Music and Time Limits: Timing is from the first movement to the last movement. Maximum time: 2 minutes A 5 second grace period will be used for human error and speeding up/slowing down of music with the competition sound system. Music is the responsibility of the coach. The music must be on a CD or phone/ipod and must be brought to the sound system at the beginning of your performance. If a CD is used, please provide separate CDs for each performance and have a backup copy with you. A viewing chair will be provided for the coaches at the music table. You will prompt the music technician when the music should be started. Media Objection: It is understood by parents/guardians of all participants that their child s participation in this competition waives all objections to their child being photographed, videotaped or name used for publication purposes. It is the coach s responsibility to make sure that these criteria are understood prior to competition entry and that parent/guardian will hold the event staff harmless. Site Information: Admission to the competition is $5. All coaches and dancers in the competition will be admitted free if they arrive together. Current Arkansas Activities Association passes WILL be honored with the presentation of photo identification and the AAA card. NO OUTSIDE FOOD OR DRINK WILL BE ALLOWED IN THE FACILITY. A concession stand will be open during the competition. Participants will have the opportunity to pre-order T-shirts. Preordered shirts will be available for the coach to pick up at registration. The order must be placed by the deadline of October 12, An athletic trainer will be available in case of injuries. Absolutely no signage will be allowed at the competition site. Balloons, noisemakers, and other items that might impair the audience s view will not be allowed in the competition viewing stands. The competition and warm-up area will be on a regulation wooden basketball court. Score Sheets and Tie Breakers: Score sheets will follow the format for the state competition. Entrances and exits to and from the competition floor will not be judges. The coach will be responsible for signaling to the team and music technician that they are ready for the music to start. In case of a tie for a placement trophy, the tie will be broken using scores from the combined scored from the judges score sheets starting with Technique, then Choreography, then Performance, and Overall

3 Effect until the tie is broken. Copies of the score sheet will be sent to each coach upon your request and receipt of your entry to the competition. Offensive or vulgar language, dance movements, or costumes (as determined by the judges) will not be tolerated and may result in disqualification or low scores by the judges. Judges: There will be three performance judges. Each performance judge will provide a score sheet for each performance. The judges will make necessary deduction for infractions of the NFHS Spirit Rules and event rules. The following are some examples of violations but are certainly not a comprehensive list: illegal stunts or props, time infraction, unauthorized person in the warm-up or dressing area, glitter, exposed (visible) safety pins, wearing jewelry, poor sportsmanship by participant, team or audience member. The decision of the judges will be final. Awards: Trophies will be given for 1 st through 3 rd place in each team category, division and classification. Competition Schedule: The competition schedule will be ed to all coaches by October 16, Remember: Entry deadline is October 6, 2017.

Option #1 - Using one popular song from a music provider like itunes, Google Play, etc. (if you choose this option you must provide Name of song and Artist name) Option #2 - Used a preferred provider listed on varsity.com/music. (If you choose this option give the Music Provider) Option #3 - Using an original song that was created by someone who owns the right to the song and gave you these rights to the song. Option #4 - Received permission to edit a popular song with another popular song. (if you choose this option you need to get permission from all owners of the recording (the record label) and the music composition (the music publisher) before you edit a recording with another recording. This can be time consuming and expensive as you might not get immediate approval from these groups in time for your performance.) Option #5 - Use cover version of popular recordings from past Varsity Spirit Summer Camp Music CD s that you already own. These songs CANNOT be edited together and have to be used as is.
