7 MASSED BANDS SEASON College conducted a review of the massed band format following last competition season, considering weather factors and efficiency of assembling 16-plus bands of differing composition while also seeking to retain the spectacle expected by promoters during the event finale. College and branch council has endorsed a revised format for competition massed bands where appropriate to increase the enjoyability factor for our bands and the public. For this coming season: Bands will assemble at designated point, playing and marching individually past the dais Upon clearing the dais, bands shall cease playing and proceed to the massed band assembly area. Nearing the area, they will be instructed to form one, two or three files Bass drummers will square off on entering the massed band formation while tenors and snares will square as much as practical The final band to complete the march-past will enter the massed band formation and the step off will be immediate. Drum sergeants will be responsible for ensuring all drummers are ready as the final band approaches. While accurate squaring-off of pipe and drum corps will not take place, snake files will be removed during assembly time. There will be no counter-marches under this new format for massed bands. The massed bands shall proceed to point in front of dais, mark-time, halt and cease play as directed. Following the march-past of winning bands, a static performance of the massed bands shall be given and then the massed bands shall be dismissed. Bands may choose to leave the performance space in a manner of their choosing. The music competition massed bands for all competitions this season will be: Advance Bonnie Dundee/Hundred Pipers Static Scotland the Brave/Badge of Scotland. Note 1: Scots Day Out Bendigo, Orange and Blue for massed highland fling required Note 2: Amazing Grace may be required at request of other promoters.
