1 Protective equipment >>>>>>>>>>>> RecommendaTions Reminder of the standards for user Personal protective equipment against fall protection Standards EN 361 EN 355 EN 354 EN 358 EN 362 EN EN 363 EN 813 EN 795-B Full body harness Energy absorbers Lanyards Work positioning belts and lanyards Connectors Guided-type fall arresters with flexible anchor line Fall arrest systems Sit harnesses Provisional and transportable anchoring devices Definition : The clearance is the minimum distance required between feet of the user and the first obstacle. Anchor point Fall arrest The clearance follows : is calculated as A Length of fall arrest B Absorption distance (refer to the fall arrest guide) H Drop height Clearance = H + 1 m For example : Absorption distance Lanyard Safety invariable A 1,75 m + 2x2,00 m + 1,00 m Clearance 6,75 m A important RecommEndations 4The user must be in a good physical condition. Medication can cause the risks of drowsiness or loss of alertness and must be prohibited before and during height work. 4The user must be trained for height work and, in particular, for the use of the harness described in this user s guide. 4Dangerous electrical areas, explosion-risk zones, and acrobatic work require highlyadapted training. 4It is strongly recommended that the PPE be reserved for one single person. 4The fall arrest system must be compatible with the hazards encountered on the job. Compare the free space under the user with the space required by the system in case of a fall - taking into consideration the obstacles, the swinging movements, and the possible anchor points (see Calculating Clearance diagram p 15). 4A rescue plan must be provided for a rapid evacuation of the user if necessary. 4The user must weigh less than 100 kg. 4In a fall arrest system, the only authorized body-equipment device is a full body harness. 4On a full body harness, only the points marked with an A are anchor points. 4The anchor point with a resistance superior to 10kN must be above the user. The chosen solution must minimize the risk and the height off fall, define the work area and, in the event of a fall, the acceptable swinging movement in a trajectory with no obstacles. 4Absolutely no changes should be made on the harness. Repairs should be made in accordance with the manufacturer s operating procedures. 4If there are any doubts about the equipment s safety or if it has been used to stop a fall, do not use it anymore. The equipment can only be used again if competent person gives you a written authorisation. 4Before each use, check visually the sewings, the straps, the buckles and the harness D-rings. Check each components of the fall arrest system. Everything must be in perfect condition. Any doubt requires immediate replacement of the item (wear, tears, deformation, annual check not done). 4Connectors (hooks) must lock properly, be clean, and without any trace of wear or deformation. Manual locking is only suitable when needing to open/close. 4Check the compatibility of the components of the fall arrest system, its relevance to the work situation and the chosen anchor points (connectors (EN 362), lanyards (EN 354), absorbers (EN 355), reels (EN360), etc.). 4Check compliance with the recommendations for each element. The size of the connectors must be suitable for the maximum allowable length of the absorbing lanyard. 4The absorbing lanyard, the retractable fall arresters and the guided-type fall arresters cannot be combined in the same system. 4Each lifeline has its own recommendations unique to its design : please follow them. 4The work positioning belt is not part of the fall arrest system. Its design and use comply with the EN 358 standard and are described in the corresponding instructions for use. Nevertheless, all checking recommendations in these instructions must be applied to its use. 4During transport and use, personal protective equipment must be protected from damage due to the contact with sharp edges, mechanical shock during handling, welding and metal projections, chemicals, corrosive atmospheres, and extreme temperatures. 4All equipment left on a work site and exposed to inclemency without traceability must be replaced. The safety of the user directly relies on efficient upkeep and resistance of the equipment. Verify periodically the readability of the markings on the equipment. Upkeep, decontamination and warehousing The harnesses are made of polyester webbing and metal buckles. 1 - Clean the straps and buckles with soapy water to avoid any chemical erosion. Strictly respect this method of cleaning. 2 - After washing or exposure to inclemency, let it dry naturally in a ventilated place away from heat sources. 3 - Store the harness in a ventilated area. During transport and storage, pay attention to ultraviolet rays, humidity, corrosive atmospheres, high temperature differences, all mechanical aggressions and mechanical shocks. 4 - The life expectancy of the harness is 10 years from the manufacturing date : only if all recommendations for use, transport, and storage have been respected and if quality checks are achieved. The harness should be used by a trained and competent person or under the direct supervision of such a person. Use webbings or slings at temperatures between -40 and +100 C. Only the points marked with an A are anchor points. IZI-1 / IZI-3 : Only points with a "D" are authorized back anchor points. IZI-2 / IZI-4 : Only points with a "D" are authorized back anchor points. Or you can use the two front anchor points A/2 only if they are linked together. Kg? Verify your weight. Never overload your personal protective equipment. In case of exposure to chemical agents, consult the manufacturer and be prepared to explain the following : Product type Concentration Temperature Duration IZI-3 / IZI-4 : The "D" on the belt of the harness if you have one, are only work positioning points. They have no A written, so they are not part of the fall arrest system. Never make knots. Replace any equipment showing signs of wear, cracks, etc. Your safety depends on the good use of these products. Do not hesitate to contact a specialist. Only the points marked with an A are anchor points. 36

2 Standard Harness Disadvantages IZI Harness Benefits FRONT FRONT Hamess without the possibility of adjusting the front anchor points : creating random positions and dangerous frontal anchor and crossing points. IZI Hamess : the same hamess can adapt to any body type. SIDE 2 major hazards : front anchor points are too high and therefore dangerous in the event of a fall The high crossing position cancels out the effectiveness of the sub-pelvic strap. Sliding creates a tourniquet effect on thighs The front anchor points adjust and adapt to the user's body type for an ideal fit. Good cross strap positioning with no possibility of slipping. No risk of tourniquet effect on thighs. BACK BACK Position of the ring too high : risk of strangulation in the event of a fali. Ideal position of the back anchor point. The strap markings allow for the proper symmetry of the harness. The sub-pelvic strap is ineffective in the event of a fall as the result of a design without the ability to adjust. The sub-pelvice strap is effective in the event of a fall and provides the ease of use that is a prerequisite for your safety. 37

The time performed on emergency interventions is no longer crucial. Only 2 load-bearing seams : simple verification, increased resistance. 2 front buckles to be attached together: avoids lifting of clothes in a fall. One size fits all : the harness consists of a single strap which allows all elements to adapt to every body type. Easy to order.
