Z&bfuzzcy Z6>,2c*ilr Subject: 2013 Citizens Awards Recipients ^^ Contact: Tatiana Yu, Events Programmer, Recreation and Culture Division Overview: This report requests that City Council approve the list of award recipients recommended by the Citizens Awards Selection Committee. Recommendations: 1. That the report from Tatiana Yu, Events Programmer, Public Services, dated February 11, 2014, to the City Council Meeting of February 26, 2014, re: 2013 Citizens Award Recipients, be received 2. That Council approve the list of award recipients as recommended by the 2013 Citizens Awards Selection Committee, as shown in Appendix A "2013 Citizens Awards Recipients". Background: In a Community Services Committee Report presented on December 8, 2004, the recommended Citizens Awards recipients were to be presented in an annual Report to Council, for approval by City Council, before the recipients are notified of their achievement. The recommended Citizens Awards recipients are determined by the Citizens Awards Selection Committee. Current Situation: The 2013 Citizen Awards Selection Committee met on Tuesday, February 11, 2014 and determined that a total of: 46 Individuals are eligible for a Sport Achievement Award 13 Sports teams are eligible for a Sport Achievement Award 5 individuals are eligible for Arts Acclaim 1 individual is eligible for an Inspirational Award 7 individuals are eligible for Long Term Service - 10 Years 1 individual is eligible for Long Term Service - 25 Years
2 X5-I-2 The recommended Citizens Awards recipients, determined by the Citizens Awards Selection Committee for City Council's approval, are included in Appendix A "2013 Citizens Awards Recipients". The Sports Acclaim awards ceremony will be held on Tuesday April 22, 2014 at the Brampton Powerade Centre. The Arts and Long Term Service awards ceremony will be held on Wednesday May 21, 2014 at the Rose Theatre. Corporate Implications: Financial Implications: Base funding for the Citizens Awards Program Renewal Plan is included as part of Public Services operating budget, within Cost Centre Special Events, in the amount of $126, Staff will ensure that the 2013 Citizens Awards Program will be produced within the current budget allocation. Strategic Plan: The Citizens Awards Program achieves the Community Engagement element of the Strategic Plan by celebrating Brampton's awards and achievements, by encouraging people to volunteer, get involved and be proud of Brampton. The Citizens Awards Program also achieves the Economic Development element of the Strategic Plan by supporting and promoting arts and sport development in Brampton. Conclusion: The City of Brampton is proud to offer a recognition program for outstanding citizens in the community and is committed to acknowledging the admirable achievements in arts, sports, long term service volunteers and humanitarianism.
