3 General Information Yarmouth Ice Club is host for the 2nd Nation s Cup Theatre on Ice Competition. This International event is sanctioned by U.S. Figure Skating. The competition will be conducted in accordance with the rules set forth in the 2011 U.S. Figure Skating rulebook and current Theatre on Ice Guidelines, except as noted herein. Current Guidelines for Theatre on Ice competitions can be found on the U.S. Figure Skating website under the Programs link on the home page. The selection path for participating teams is determined by their Country s Federation. Every participating country can register up to 3 teams per category. All skaters selected to participate must meet the eligibility criteria of the ISU regulations (ISU rule R102) The category of the teams is defined by the criteria of age and test corresponding to the definition given by their home federation. Teams of countries whose Federations have not defined the categories must refer to the 2011 U.S. Figure Skating regulations. A skater can only participate on one team and one category (no cross-over) All applications, documents, communications and website postings will be in English. Liability & Re f u n d s LIABILITY: According to U.S. Figure Skating rule #3222, U.S. Figure Skating, Yarmouth Ice Club, Hyannis Youth and Community Center and Tony Kent Arena assume no responsibility for injury or damages incurred during the Nations Cup Theatre on Ice competition. REFUNDS: INSURANCE: According to U.S. Figure Skating rule #3235, THERE WILL BE ABSOLUTELY NO REFUNDS for any reason after the competition entry deadline. IT IS STRONGLY RECOMMENDED THAT ALL TEAMS PURCHASE TRIP CANCELLATION INSURANCE. U.S. Figure Skating, Yarmouth Ice Club, Hyannis Youth and Community Center and Tony Kent Arena cannot and will not be responsible for any losses incurred by teams in cases of emergency or acts of God. 3

The HYCC is a brand new 2 rink facility. The competition will be held in the Kennedy Rink, which measures 200 feet x 85 feet (60.96m X 25.91m) with rounded corners. ALL OFFICIAL PRACTICES WILL BE HELD IN THE KENNEDY RINK. Tony Kent Arena, South Gages Way, South Dennis, Dennis MA will be the location for all unofficial practices. It measures 200 X 85 (60.96m X 25.91m) with rounded corners. Location is 15 miles (24.2 kilometers) from HYCC. 4

DEADLINE - All entries must be received no later than January 10, Entry forms must include all applicable information and must be legible. The LOC in conjunction with the Chief Referee, reserves the right to limit the size of an event and to cancel or combine events if there are too few entrants. If only one team enters an event they will compete under the same conditions as teams in other events and will be judged in the same manner. No refund will be offered. If a team cancels after the close of entries there will be no refunds. FEES: CE & FS (combined): $ US dollars - includes one 10 minute official practice for each event in the competition rink. 7 Practice Ice NO TEAM MAY PURCHASE PRACTICE ICE FROM ANY OTHER VENDOR. ONLY PRACTICE ICE SOLD BY THE YARMOUTH ICE CLUB (LOC) WILL BE AVAILABLE FOR USE BY PARTICIPATING TEAMS. All Official Practice ice will be assigned by event group. All teams in an event will practice in the same block of time. Additional unofficial practice sessions will be available at Tony Kent Arena on April 6-8 and will be assigned on a first come first serve basis. Payment for additional unofficial practice sessions must be included with the entry form. Music will be played only 1 time during each official practice. OFFICIAL PRACTICE ICE: One official 10 minute practice session for CE and one for FS will be assigned in the official rink and is included in the entry fee. UNOFFICIAL PRACTICE ICE: $ US dollars per 50 minute session Music will be allowed, Remember, bring an extra CD to all practices. Unofficial practice will begin on Wednesday, April 6, 2011 and will be available throughout the competition. Additional unofficial practice ice will be available if needed for Monday, April 4 and Tuesday, April 5, at Tony Kent Arena, South Dennis, MA. Official practice for the CE will begin at the HYCC in the competition rink on Thursday, April 7, Mu s i c Upon registration Teams are to turn in their competition CDs (only standard format - no re-recordable CD-RW discs). Each CD must have only one program on it starting at the beginning of the CD. CDs must be clearly identified with: Name of Federation Name of City Name of Club Name of Team Category of Team Name of Team Leader Program (Choreographic Exercise or Free Skate) Exact duration of Program All teams must have a back-up CD available at rink side. CDs will be in team mailboxes at the completion of the event. NO CD s WILL BE MAILED. If music information is not complete and CDs not provided, the accreditations will not be given. A separate CD must be brought to all practices 7

8 Program Description WRITTEN DESCRIPTION: The official competition program should contain a written description of the performance, which must be provided by the team at the time of application to the competition as part of the competition announcement. The description may not be more than 50 words in length and must be provided to the local organizing committee of the competition in the local language. AUDIO DESCRIPTION: An audio description of the program (or other verbal text) may be part of the CD and precede the commencement of the program. This applies to both the Free Skate and the Choreographic Exercise. The CD will not be started until after the team has taken its position and given a hand signal that team is ready to begin. If the team does not wish the audio description to be included in the timing of the performance, the entire team must remain still during the audio description. If the team is moving/ skating during the audio description this will be included the total time allotment for their performance. The audio reading should not exceed 30 seconds. A 1 point deduction will be taken. Descriptions will no longer be read by announcers; therefore, teams wishing to have an audible description read must have one recorded on the CD. Team Photos All teams must submit a team photo by the entry deadline, January 10th, 2011, in order to be included in the official program. Photos must be submitted by in the following format: JPEG file of no greater than 300dpi named <Team Name> <Level>.jpg. The address is teamphoto@2011nationscup.com. Photo submissions must be checked off on the application. Tentative Meetings An Officials meeting will be held on Thursday, April 7, 2011, 9:30 AM - 11:30 AM A Coaches, Team Leader, and Team Managers meeting will take place at the HYCC on Thursday, April 7, 2011, 11:30 AM - 12:30 PM Other meetings TBD Sc h e d u l e The official practice ice and competition schedule will be ed to all team coordinators. The schedule will also be available to each team in their confirmation packet upon arrival. The schedule will be posted on the U.S. Figure Skating TOI website and the LOC website 30 days after the close of entries. 8

9 Re g i s t r at i o n The registration desk will open at noon (12:00PM) on Wednesday April 6th 2011, and will remain open throughout the competition hours. The registration table will be clearly marked and located just inside the entrance of the HYCC. At registration, Team credentials will be given to each Team Manager when music is turned in and team rosters have been confirmed. Registration - International Coaches Official, Judges, and only 1 Coach, 1 Choreographer 1 Team Manager and 1 Team Leader must be listed on the entry form and must show a photo ID to obtain credentials. Re g i s t r at i o n - U.S. Co a c h e s Upon arrival all coaches must check in at the registration desk and show proof of registration and memberships in both U.S. Figure Skating and PSA, as well as being certified CER Category B in order to receive a credential. If you are not registered with both associations you will not be given a credential. NO EXCEPTIONS! When registering, make sure the name used with U.S. Figure Skating is the same name on the competition entry form. Team Mail Boxes Team mail boxes will be available at the registration desk. All schedules, announcements and bulletins will be in the boxes. All team leaders are responsible for checking their teams box several times each day. 9

10 Ju d g e s & Officials The judging panels will consist of 10 officials selected by the following process: Each participating country with at least 1 team can propose 1 judge Founder countries (France and USA) can propose 1 additional judge The judges are invited by the Yarmouth Ice Club (LOC) through their respective Federations. If too many judges satisfy the above criteria, the judges will be selected by random draw. In case of insufficient numbers of judges, the founder countries (France and USA) will select judges to complete the panel. The chief referee and assistant referee will be chosen by the LOC. The judge s panel will consist of: 1 Referee 1 Assistant Referee 7 Judges 1 Ice Judge Official Expenses LOC will cover the expenses of the official Judges from the Boston Logan Airport to Hyannis, MA and return to Boston Logan Airport. Housing will also be the responsibility of the LOC from the day of the start of the official practice to the end of the Nations Cup Competition, unless invited to officiate at the U.S. National Competition. Foreign judges are allowed to arrive 1 day in advance. All meals will either be served at the rink or hotel - no per diems allowed. The LOC will outline where and when meals will be served. An official Hospitality Room will be available at the end of each day of competition at the Judges Official Host Hotel. Judging & Seating Information JUDGING SYSTEM: The French Theatre on Ice accounting system will be used for all events and is based on a 10.0 scoring scale. The computer system is provided by the French Federation of Ice Sports. Only TOI certified judges will be used for these events. The event referee s interpretations of the rules will be final. JUDGES LOCATION: The judges stand is located on the top row of the arena directly across from the position of the curtain. SEATING LOCATION: Seating is on two sides of the arena. Teams may orientate scenery and performance to the audience of spectators and judges accordingly. See attached arena diagram on page

11 Tr a n s p o r t a t i o n Each team is responsible for its own transportation. Plymouth & Brockton Bus Company is the official team transportation coordinator for the competition. 12 National Anthem & Flag The LOC requests all participating international teams bring a copy of their national anthem on CD and the national flag of their country (3 x 5 / 0.91m x 1.52m). Only the anthem of the first place team will be played. During the opening ceremony 2 Athletes and 2 Officials (one from France and one from the United States) will take the oath. Co m p e t i t o r s Pa r t y There will be a party for all competitors, coaches, families and officials on Thursday, April 7. Tickets, $20.00/person (US dollars), must be purchased with entry form. Further details TBD. Dr aw An Open Draw will be held on Wednesday, April 6, 2011 at 5:00pm for Officials, 1 Coach, 1 Team Manager, 1 Team Captain, and 1 Team Leader. Further details will be available at a later date. Aw a r d s Awards will be presented to each team member for 1st through 4th place in each event. Awards will be presented on ice at the completion of the competition. Final placement is determined by the combination of marks for the CE and FS. The novice category will be determined by placement in the FS only. A special commemorative medal will be given to all skaters participating in the event. Critiques There will be no critiques or exhibitions unless if there is one entry in a category. 12

13 Ice Rink Plan The ice surface for the rink is 200 x 85 (60.96m X 25.91m) with stadium seating on two sides. (See page 16) CURTAIN: RINK ACCESS: LIGHTING: The curtain will be placed parallel to the longitudinal/long axis, five feet from the barrier and will hang across the middle of the ice surface from blue line to blue line. The rink will be accessible by team members from the right access tunnel, with exit being the left access tunnel (right to the skaters exiting the ice surface). Scenery and props will be available at the Scenery Entrance. Standard rink lighting will be used for all events. No spotlights or special lighting will be permitted. 14 Sc e n e ry, Pr o p s & Co s t u m e s All teams must be aware of U.S. Figure Skating 2011 TOI guidelines. The use of smoke, fire, liquid or live animals is not permitted. Trampolines or other such apparatus used to assist skaters jumping into the air are not permitted. SCENERY: PROPS: COSTUMES: Scenery may be used but is not essential and is only permitted for Free Skate competition. Scenery cannot be more than 7 feet 6 inches (2.3m) in height once in place on the ice. All scenery must be placed on the ice and taken off the ice by the skaters and not by any non-team members. Once the scenery is assembled it must fit in a 10 foot x 10 foot (3.05m x 3.05m) area in the designated storage area at the competition Props may be used in the Free Skate ONLY. Props must be placed at the scenery door. Skaters must pick up props from this position. Costumes must be in accordance with U.S. Figure Skating rules for Theatre on Ice. Bobby-pins, feathers or anything that may fall to the ice and be hazardous to the skaters are not allowed. Hair and ornaments must be secure. A 1 point deduction for any violations will be taken. CHANGING IN THE PUBLIC RESTROOMS IS NOT PERMITTED. All expenses incurred for scenery transportation or storage (prior to/after the competition date) is the responsibility of the Team.
