2 Dear Customer, On behalf of the staff at Michael and Young, we would like to wish you and your families a most wonderful HOLIDAY season and New Year. And, a heartfelt THANK YOU to all of you who shop at Michael & Young, making our lives possible. For the last 10 years we have held an annual Spey Day and it has become our EVENT OF THE YEAR. This event allows you, our customers, a chance to come out and play with most all of the new rods and lines in the SPEY world. Thank you to all that attended and who continue to support Michael & Young, making these events possible. And, thank you to Travis Johnson and all of the amazing presenters for excellent and inspiring demonstrations. With the help of generous donations from our suppliers, we hold a fundraiser every year at this event and this past year we raised over $8, with the proceeds split between the BCFFF and the Steelhead Society of BC. Hopefully we have the opportunity to raise funds for another deserving cause this coming spring! Again, we hope next year s event, to be held on Saturday April 9, 2016 will be bigger and better than ever before. The shop address is info@myflyshop.com. As is always the case, a PDF version of this Holiday Flyer will be posted on our website as well at This has been a sad year for the Steelhead fishermen. Much lower than normal Steelhead returns almost everywhere in the province led to closures on many of our favorite rivers and tough fishing on others. Let us cross our fingers and pray for healthy returns in the future! It seems like a long time ago with lots of scary low water levels in between, but the Spring steelhead fishing and early season Lake fishing were excellent this year. But by summer, our provinces rivers saw one of the worst low water years ever recorded and these drought like conditions shut down fisheries throughout the Province. Most notable almost all of Vancouver Island rivers and streams and most rivers and streams in the southern portions of the province were closed. There was a silver lining in that the Chinook returns around the province were amazing and continued late into the Season. The chum returns have been good as well, but not so for Sockeye and Coho, which have had low returns albeit many anglers are still catching coho at present. For any of you looking to get away on a tropical fishing adventure Christmas Island has become an annual event for us, so if you ever want to put you name on the list, just call the shop and we will try to accommodate. At the time of writing there are still a few spots available for early March This year we welcomed back our long time employee and friend Aaron Goodis; Austyn left us to start his Post Secondary studies; Catherine is spending more time at both locations; Daryl Martens has joined the team, as has Nic Clory. Recently Gary at our Vancouver location has taken a leave. We expect his beautiful smile back soon!
