April 2018 ISSUE 1011 MOTION A MAGAZINE ABOUT OUR FORWARD MOVEMENT TRAVEL GUIDE PRESCOTT PHOENIX TUCSON FINDING ARIZONA
THE GRAND CANYON state is where we call home. It wasn t were I was raised but it is where I plant my roots to grow and expand. But there is a lot more to Arizona than being hot. In the past year we climbed from the number 6 to the number 5 most populated city in the US. WHY WE RE HERE In this issue we share the best of our state according to our team. We cover the valley of the sun from food spots to working off those calories at local hiking trails you can check out this weekend. Next we are traveling north to beat the heat and see the gorgeous colors of Sedona. Ninety minutes and you can be in another world experiencing crystals and vortexes. Our last stop is down to Tucson and we are going there for more than just a ASU v U of A rivalry game and we will tell you why! Finally we ask Why Arizona? What brought you here? Its something that connects us all that we want to share and show that we also bring the heat to this beautiful state. This issue came at a perfect time I recently purchased a 1949 historic Phoenix home and while going through the ups and downs of the process I always had one thought in my mind I love Arizona and we know you love it too! Thanks for being apart of our Arizona journey. Britt J. LETTER FROM THE EXECUTIVE

TUCSON ARIZONA Tucson still manages to keep its small desert town feel form the black and white western movies it once help set to San Pedro Chappel 5230 E. Ft. Lowell Rd. in Tucson, Arizona Tucson Arizona is a short drive from the capital city of Arizona and yet such a different world. Because the University of Arizona is in Tucson you have to cross sides to visit. Any Sun Devil fans beware. But a travel to this small town is a great day trip out of the valley to experience a different culture. My first trip to Tucson was for an ASU v UofA game and that was an experience to remember. Britt J. shares her encounter down south for a competitive college football game. It is a small city but this large instituition keeps the city alive. Even though these games double the city s population in a day the energy and the spirit is something only to experience. The Downtown scene of Tucson still feels vintage with antique shops and historical buildings still in tact; at the same time the urban lifestyle is taking hold and co-work spaces and delicious new eateries can be found. The downtown streets are just a few blocks long so we recommend parking and checking out all the mom and pop shops. Hungry? The Tucson food scene is amazing! According to Ariella V. There is a restaurant called La Parilla Suiza and it has become somewhat of a tradition in my family. Whenever we would take trips into town that is where we would always eat. The dish to order is the Queso Fundido. The best part is taking your fork and scooping up a bit of cheese and letting those delicious strands of stretch till they snap. S o much cheese! Being less than 60 miles from the US / Mexico border the quality of Mexican food is something to brag about! Visit some churches! Some of the most spectacular architecture can be found at the local churches. The San Pedro Chapel was built in 1932 and walking the property you can feel the history. See the chapel and walk to the assistance quarters reading about the land and who walked there before. The Mission San Xavier del Bac is another beautiful location. This Spanish Catholic Mission is a beautiful spot for photos or learning some history. It is just south of the city but worth the extra drive. Surrounded by the Sonoran Desert every where you look is a gorgeous landscape. Driving down the 10 you can see desert for miles and saguaro cacti more than a hundred years old. Even with the city population growing this area still manages to keep its small desert town feel from the black and white western movies it once held set to.
I GET UP EARLY AND WORK IN THE HIKE ITS WORTH THE VIEW TO GET TO THE TOP OF A MOUNTAIN IN TEMPE AND LOOK OUT OVER RIO SALADO PHOENIX ARIZONA The Valley of the Sun is where we call home. From Gilbert to Glendale in between and more your city name may not be Phoenix but you are in the 5th largest city in the United States for a reason. We want to give you a few more reasons to stay. Here are our favorite spots to eat drink and be merry. Even though we experience temperatures in the summer over 120 degrees Phoenix is an amazing place to get outdoors and hike. Gemma M. visited a few years before moving and after hiking a local train she said this is where she wants to live. A short twenty minute drive takes you to some of the most famous hiking spots in the valley like Squaw Peak and Camelback mountain. Papago Mountain is a great place to bring the dogs. But no matter where you choose to hike make sure to pack plenty of water! To avoid the heat but also still get some outdoor adventure in Tessa F. will rise early morning. I get up early and work in the hike. Its worth the view to get to the top of A Mountain in Tempe and look out over Rio Salado. Duce in Phoenix allows you to catch a game on their big screen projector while playing bags and grabbing a bite from the food truck or even take a boxing class Gemma M. states. Speaking of food Rachel S. suggests Pizza People Pub in Phoenix. They have the best Mac n Cheese! There are so many different cuisines in the valley we really have become a melting pot of culture. But our Mexican food in the whole state is on point! Speedy Tacos on 40th street is a recommendation from Tessa F. She says you are only playing yourself if you haven t gone. Throughout the city you can find some hidden gem coffee shops. Even latte and barista competions are popping up because of the hipster demand for a classic chai. Copper Star Coffee in Phoenix makes hommade chai and Rachel S. says its the place she goes to when she has people from out of town. It s rustic and so earthy with such a relaxed feel being in the middle of a major city. The Arizona State capital building is always hosting events from walks to marches our citizzens like to be seen and heard Rosevelt Row in Downtown Phoenix offers one of a kind pieces created by artists locally and worldwide. Every first Friday of the Month local vendors set up booths with food trucks and live art up and down Rosevelt Phoenix is big on their sports teams. Whether you chose to catch a game locally or not you can always reap the benefits of a local win at a local eatery. From $1 coffee at Dunkin Donuts to 50% off pizzas at Paps Johns Phoenix sure knows how to eat! But the best sporting event that happens in Phoenix is Spring Training! According to Gemma M. catching a cubs game or a diamondbacks game is THE thing to do! But even if you re not going to the stadium there are plenty of places in town to watch the game and enjoy a nice cold one. The Arts and Entertainment is a big genre in our city. Britt J suggests free musum Wednesday. After 3pm the Phoenix Art Museum offers free admission and it is the perfect way to relax unwind and keep cool in this city. The Desert Botanical Garden is another beautiful place to learn about the local plants and vegetation. Enjoying the sunshine and walking through the threshold of the herb garden surrounded immediately by the smells of rosemary and sage. There is a new adventure waiting to be discovered in each city so what are you waiting for?

MY FAVORITE PLACE TO HIKE IN SEDONA IS WET BEAVER CREEK AT THE END OF THE 3 1/2 MILE TRAIL THERE IS A GREAT SPOT TO CLIFF JUMP INTO CRYSTAL CLEAR WATER WHICK IS SUPER REFRESHING AFTER HIKING WET BEAVER CREEK I REALIZED I WANTED TO MOVE OUT OF ILLINOIS SO I CAN HAVE MORE HIKING EXPERIENCES AND TWO YEARS LATER I NOW LIVE IN PHOENIX GEMMA M My favorite thing in Sedona is going to Slide Rock. Going to Sedona and not coming home without a new crystal gemstone is like going to Disneyland and not riding any rides! The charge on these crystals are powerful and the sources are trustworthy! 7 WHY ARIZONA I grew up north of Phoenix. I ve left and come back time and again. I feel like my draw to Arizona is knowing internally thereis something here for me plus I mean... being tan! Tessa F. It is so nice to have a day off and you can litterally go anywhere to get away. Everything is just a short drive away which is why Arizona is a great place to not only visit but live. Everyone I have met in Phoenix have been nothing but hospitable and I look forward to seeing where these realtionships go. Gemma M. I grew up visiting family in Mesa and taking trips to the Salt River. I always told myselfy if I lived here I would have to have a pool and I recently purchased a home with a pool. Arizona found me with abusiness opportinty but every door I have opened here I have found Sunshine Litterally figureatively. Britt J.
