3 The Loch Ness Monster The Loch Ness Monster is the most famous cryptid in the world. Cryptid means a hidden creature or living creature which can or cannot exist. The first recorded sighting of Nessie was in 565 AD. The name Nessie comes from the Gaelic An Neassidh which translates as Female of the Ness.

6 Scottish Clans In Scotland, every family belongs to a clan and each clan has its own tartan. There are hundreds of clans throughout Scotland and lots of different types of tartan too! Tartan is a pattern consisting of criss crossed horizontal and vertical bands of woven wool. It is typically worn in the form of a kilt.
7 The Kilt The kilt is the traditional dress of Scotland. It is typically worn on formal occasions such as weddings or ceilidhs as well as the Highland Games. The Scottish kilt is usually worn with: kilt hose (woollen socks) and a sporran (a kind of purse). It is traditional to wear no underwear underneath the kilt to prove that you are a True Scotsman.

9 Amy Macdonald born 25th August 1987 in Bishopbriggs. She is a singer/songwriter and her debut album This is the Life was released in She can play the guitar and keyboard. Her most famous songs are This is the Life, Mr Rock n Roll, L.A and Run.
10 Born 31st December 1941 in Govan. He is a Scottish football manager and has been in charge of Manchester United since He led Scottish team Aberdeen to a 1983 European Cup win over REAL MADRID!!! 11 William Wallace The story of William Wallace is told in the 1995 film Braveheart. The film follows Wallace s long quest to make Scotland free once and for all after being ruled by a cruel English King. The film is based on the 1314 Battle of Bannockburn. The film s most famous quote: Aye, fight and you may die. Run and you ll live, at least a while. And dying in your beds many years from now, would you be willing to trade all the days, from this day to that, for once chance, just one chance to come back here and tell our enemies that they may take our lives but they will never take our freedom! 17 Burns Night Burns Night is an important celebration in Scotland which takes place on the 25th of January to celebrate the life of our national poet Robert Burns. During this night we eat haggis, neeps and tatties and read the works of Robert Burns. While the haggis is brought to the table, the Selkirk Grace is recited: Some hae meat and canna eat, And some wad eat that want it But we hae meat and we can eat And sae the Lord be thankit
18 St Andrew s Day St Andrew is the patron saint of Scotland and St Andrew s Day is Scotland s national day. It is celebrated on the 30th of November. St Andrew was one of Jesus s 12 desciples and was a fisherman. St Andrew s Day is an official flag day in Scotland the Scottish flag (saltire) should fly on all the buildings. Around midnight on the 29th of November it was traditional for girls to pray to St Andrew for a husband.
19 Highland Games The Highland Games originate from Ireland. They are held from June until September all across the Scottish Highlands. The most famous gathering is held at Balmoral.
20 Popular Sports In Scotland Football is the most popular sport in Scotland and the main teams are Celtic, Rangers and Aberdeen. The Scottish National Team play at Hampden Stadium in Glasgow. Another popular sport in Scotland is rugby. The two professional teams are Glasgow Warriors and Edinburgh and the most popular competition is the 6 nations. Tennis is also popular in some parts of Scotland thanks to British Number one Andy Murray who was born in Scotland.
21 Golf is a major sport in Scotland too. There are hundreds of golf courses all over Scotland and some of the most important tournaments are played here. The Old Course in St Andrews is the most famous golf course in the world. Shinty is a sport which is common in the Scottish Highlands and is played with a stick and a ball. It has similarities with field hockey. It is made up of 12 players in each team.
22 Highland Cattle Highland cattle are an ancient breed of cows with long horns and long wavy coats which are black, brown or red.
