Partly description This course will introduce students to the linguistic analysis of the Scottish Gaelic language, giving an overview of phonetics and phonology, morphology and syntax, together with consideration of key sociolinguistic principles and issues, including phenomena relating to language contact, language shift and status and corpus planning. Entry Requirements (not applicable to Visiting Students) Prerequisites Prohibited Combinations Students MUST have passed: Gaelic 1A (CELT08004) OR Gaelic 1B (CELT08005) AND A Brief Introduction to Language (LASC08016) (or be enrolled on Linguistics and English Language 1 (LASC08015)). Co-requisites Gaelic 2A (CELT08007) OR Gaelic 2B (CELT08008) Other requirements

2 Additional Costs Information for Visiting Students Prerequisites Visiting students will be expected to demonstrate a level of competency in the Gaelic language equivalent to that of Edinburgh students who have completed three semesters of Gaelic instruction at university/college level. Visiting students must also have completed an introductory course in Linguistics.
