1 Welcome To The National Flag Football Family! Official Newsletter - Fall 2015 Rain Date: In an effort to not confuse you we have NOT assigned anyone for the rain date. Please know that the rain date is schedules for November 22nd (Louisville rain date is 11/15). We will assign you as needed!! Mandatory Pregame Huddle Thank you to all officials that have arrived early and attended the Pregame Huddle. This will continue throughout the season. It helps all involved. YOU MAKE THE CALL!! How would you call this?? Madden Division A team reads 1 yard before the first down. They proceed to pass the ball, because they are in the NO RUN ZONE. The QB gets sacked 8 yards back, making it 3rd down. The next play the team handsoff to the Running Back and he gets the first down. Is this a legal play? (see answer below) Make Sure You Know The Rules! We cannot stress this enough! When you are on top of your game and know the rules, a coach will respect your calls. This is especially true when you can explain thoroughly what you called and why. Print and Review the NFF Rule Book! Tip of the Week: "Rule of the Week" for the players: "Hey guys remember you MUST show good sportsmanship. There is NO Trash talking, if I see poor sportsmanship there will be a 15 yard penalty. Please respect your teammates, opposing team, coaches and officials."

2 Surveys from Parents are in! As we know we can "Never Please Everyone". However, constructive criticism is always welcome. Here are some comments from the parents...things to work on. Things to work on! Have fun with the kids...if the official is having fun then everyone is having fun!! Spring Season 2016 We are in the process of developing the Spring 2016 Schedules. Please let me know if you are interested in officiating next season. Also, include what locations you may be interested in. Tenative Schedule - Start dates April 16th/17th and End dates June 12th/13th There are NO games over Memorial Weekend. "The Rules of the Game very between officials" "He didn't know the rules and/or afraid to call them" "Had a problem with the ref being there to get the games started on time" "Confusion regarding contact...tripping and tackling/shoving" Communicating the calls to the players and coaches" "The referee needs to take a chill pill and realize the age of these kids" "Calls not consistant. One week you could blitz, next week you couldn't". Keep up the good work! "Did a great job and didn't listen to winy coaches" "Officials were fantastic again this year. I really appreciate their professional, yet coaching attitude toward the players. This league is about learning and having fun." "Both officials are great individuals! I hope you can keep both of them for next season. They really help keep the games more fun and interesting." "Don't know the name of the one official but he is great, he interacts with the kids and is super personable.' "While some calls were missed during the course of some games, they too seemed to have the same understanding that this league is all about getting the kids out for some good recreational fun." "Better this season. They seemed to not only

3 officiate but also I would see them explaining to a child what they were doing wrong." "Good interactions" "One of the officials seemed to genuinely enjoy the game. Others seemed like they had somewhere else to be." If you want to know specifics about your league please me and I will send you the parents responses. Differences between the Divisions Officiating in your league can be a little changeling due to the various ages you have through out the day. Please keep in mind that with the Lombardi Division you will need to be more involved with the kids. If the ball is dropped between the Center and QB, a do over can be granted. However, if the ball is dropped more than a couple of times I would suggest to the coach that a change be made. In the Shula and Madden Divisions the kids are a little older and most of them have experienced playing flag football. This is where we need to be sure to enforce the rules of the game. Be sure to explain the call and what was done wrong. These kids need to learn from mistakes and grow. Don't let the Coaches/Parents and Players get to you! No one ever said that Officiating Football is "easy". We appreciate that you have taken the time to learn the rules, purchased an official shirt and supplies, and enjoy the game of football. Every sport will have a few coaches and parents that like to heckle or push the officials buttons. Stick to your calls

4 and always remain polite and on point. Remember for every coach that has an issue there are 40 coaches that don't! Keep up the good work and remember it is about kids having fun and learning to love football. Make the call answer: This is a legal play. The play is starting from outside the No Run Zone. Payroll Payroll is paid bi-weekly. The funds usually show up in your account on Thursday or Friday.. Pay Weeks: November 16th November 30th Do you want to officiate in the Spring League? Please let me know if you plan on officiating this spring and what locations you are interested in. Our season will start in April and conclude in June. There will be games over Mother's day weekend, but not over Memorial day weekend. Thank you again for your commitment to our program. We are excited to finish the season strong.
