2 mordialloc redbacks junior football club PRESIDENTS WELCOME Welcome to the 2018 season with our Mordialloc Redbacks junior football club. We are excited about this season, for we have worked hard in the off-season to prepare for the season ahead is our 5th year as a junior club now. We started through the energy of local parents who wanted to create a junior football club that links in with our Redbacks junior cricket and netball clubs, allowing our children to participate in a range of sports in our local community. In 2018, we have added our first every girls team which reflects the increased participation of females in playing AFL. Additionally, our new club rooms will be ready soon, which will improve the amenity for our children, our families and visitors for 2018 and beyond. I wish everyone a fun season and look forward to seeing you at the games and around the club in the coming months. 3 2018 season handbook TRAINING All teams train at Ben Kavanagh reserve, and players need to wear their mouthguards. The teams have the following training schedules: U9 & U10 Thursdays pm U12 Tuesday & Thursday pm U16 Girls Monday & Wednesday pm Our Season The 2018 season starts on Sunday April 15th, and has 14 games. There are two byes where we do not play: Sunday 10th June for Queens Birthday Sunday 8th July for school holidays Our home and away season ends on Sunday 29th July. After this, our U9 and U10 teams play a lightning premiership on Sunday 5th August, whilst our U12 and U16 Girls play finals in August, culminating in a Grand Final on Sunday 26th August. GAME DAY Games are usually held on Sunday mornings, however there may be the occasional night game through the season. Players are to be at the ground 30 minutes ahead of the start time. All players will need a mouthguard and red shorts. Spectators are only allowed on the ground at half time - not during the quarter time or three quarter time break. 3

As a family oriented club, we are always supportive of families should the fees be an issue. A jumper, which is to be returned at the end of the season, will be provided to each player. Red playing shorts are not included, and are available from the team managers at $25 each. For those wanting to make a payment our bank account details are: Bendigo Bank (Parkdale Branch) Account name: Mordialloc Redbacks Junior Footy BSB # Acc # COMMUNICATIONS We use TeamApp to communicate with the players and families. This is a free app, so please download it, register for our club (Mordialloc Junior FC) and ensure the notifications are switched on. WORKING WITH CHILDREN CHECKS (WWCC) All coaches and the committee have valid Working With Children Checks, all kept on our register. This is as per the AFL Victoria Child Safe standards. Parents who assist in training or game day duties are not required to have a WWCC. Any reports or concerns for a child s welfare are to be made to our Child Safety Officer. 5 2018 season handbook AUSKICK AusKick is a great way for our younger children (4-7 year olds) to enjoy the experience of football. Our Auskick is run by the Mordialloc Redbacks every Friday night at Ben Kavanagh Reserve between 6-7pm. Registration is via the AusKick website A typical evening will involve introductory football drills, run by parents from Mordialloc Redbacks and players from our senior team, followed by a free BBQ. A level 2 safety officer is present at every Auskick session. Advanced football clinic In 2018 we launch our Advanced Football Clinic as a transition for children 6 years and older from Auskick to junior football. It is a tailored junior football training session, run by the coaches from our junior football club as well as players from our senior football club. The Advanced Football Clinic is held every Friday night at Ben Kavanagh Reserve between 6-7pm (the same time as Auskick). Fees are $80 (including training singlet, sports bag and drink bottle), with registration fees directly supporting Mordialloc Junior Football Club. Further the AFL is asking players to sign the code of conduct as a sign of your support for the game, our club and their teammates. We have placed these codes of conduct on our website as well as handed the code to each player. Please remember that the AFL and FDJFL insist that consumption of alcohol and smoking is unacceptable at junior AFL games. 7

10 mordialloc redbacks junior football club OUR LEAGUE Our junior teams play in the Frankston District Junior Football League ( Their website has information about the fixture, results and all the teams involved in the league. The FDJFL requires players to be registered via Sporting Pulse. The league objective is to produce footballers: who love the game who want to get the best out of themselves & become the best people they can be who want to play the game we love with their friends in a manner that is inclusive, supportive and encouraging. A further objective is to help in the growth and development of our young people to make sure they are good community citizens now and in the future. 10 Things that require zero talent Here are some great tips for young sportspeople to be aware of as their skills develop: 1.
