3 CLUB NEWS! 2011 FALL SOCIAL HOT WASHUP Report By: John Brown, President On Saturday, 01 October, an estimated 75 to 80 NAC members enjoyed a feast of homemade smoked barbeque turkey and pork butts, and locally caught steamed blue crab, oysters, clams and all the fixin s!

4 Many, many, M-A-N-Y thanks to our gracious hosts Lucian and Sandy Montagna who invited so many into their home to enjoy good food and fellowship. In addition, thanks to the numerous volunteers who pre-cleaned crab, helped Lucian and Sandy set up, the cooks and the clean-up crew. A real team effort that made the event go smoothly and was enjoyable for all. If you missed it, you missed one heck of a feed and a great opportunity to meet and engage with club members outside of our normal meetings. ~Again, thanks to all volunteers and attendees for an absolutely wonderful event!!!

6 FISHING REPORT - Chesapeake Bay, Coastal Waters Out To The Towers Report By: Courtesy Virginia Beach Sport Fishing - VBSF.Net Fall officially begins this week. The latest blow was the hallmark of dropping water temperatures, with ocean front temperatures registering at around 71 degrees this week. This means that the summer favorites are lining up to exit the area, while the cool water species are taking up residence. Once the weather begins cooperating, anglers can experience a great introduction to the fall fishing season. Spot action has been very good so far this season. The bite remains steady, with decent fish ranging to around 14-ounces showing all over the southern and western sections of the lower Bay and along the Ocean front. Favorite locations include the Monitor-Merrimack Memorial Bridge Tunnel, the Hampton Roads Bridge Tunnel, Rudee Inlet, Little Creek Inlet, and Lynnhaven Inlet. All local fishing piers are also reporting catches of nice spot, with the best bites happening on the incoming tide this week. Taylor and snapper bluefish are also hitting in these same areas, along with a good run of pompano along the Sandbridge surf. Horse croaker are active this week, with good catches ranging up to around 2.5-pounds taking bait in most any deep water location in the lower Bay. Big fish are responding from the Hampton Roads Bridge Tunnel to the Bay Bridge Tunnel. The lower Bay inlets are also holding lots of nice hardheads. Captain Jake Hiles aboard the Matador out of Rudee Inlet found croaker raging up to two-pounds fishing in Rudee Inlet this week. Although cobia action took a breather after the front passed through last week, opportunities will resume once the water settles. As the cobia cruise out of the Bay, anglers can intercept these fish as they pause on buoys and collect into small pods along the ocean front on their way south. Sight casting with jigs and live bait will get the job done. Speckled trout are still making a good showing in all the usual haunts, and this action will only pick up as the waters continue to cool. Although many fish are on the smaller side, good numbers of keepers are making the effort worthwhile. Anglers are having good luck with Mirrolures and plastics, with some folks hooking over 60 fish in an outing while fishing along the channel at Lynnhaven Inlet recently. Flounder are quiet in the Bay this week, but the flatfish will still be awaiting offerings once the water clears. Offshore and inshore wrecks are producing nice keeper flounder along with big seabass and triggerfish. The Triangle Wrecks are always a good location to try for wreck flounder. The fall season s red drum are true to form as they continue to provide good catches from the lower Bay and coastal waters. Surf and pier anglers are finding a few fish in the surf along Sandbridge and the Eastern shore barrier islands and inlets. Peeler crabs, bunker, and crabs are working well as these fish fatten up for their migration south next month. If you haven t hooked a nice sheepshead this year, they are still lingering along the structure of the Bridge Tunnel. Plenty of triggerfish are also in these same areas, and tautog action is rekindling for the fall season. Keeper tog are available along the pilings and tubes of the CBBT. King mackerel showed some promise this week, with a few fish boated off of Sandbridge. There are rumors of a few smokers, with one brute even pushing to 50-pounds.

8 NAC PRIZE FISH CONTEST RULES Rules regarding our annual PRIZE FISH CONTEST and are posted on the NAC website. Again, please visit the website to learn the details of the contest rules. Let s make our contest fun and competitive, Please Participate.
