2 JOIN US FOR THE 34th ANNUAL MONTGOMERY COUNTY SENIOR GAMES!!! This year marks the 34th time that residents of Montgomery County and the Delaware Valley region will gather in May to compete in an Olympic-style series of sporting events. After all these years the goal and mission of the Games remains the same: to exercise, meet new friends and stay in the game. The Montco Senior Games Planning Committee has begun to plan in earnest for We will be tweaking the schedule a bit to allow for easier flow from event to event. There is no limit on the amount of activities you can participate, however please allow plenty of time for travel and other factors when selecting your events. The 3rd Annual Senior Expo, located at the Montgomery County Community College Health Sciences Center (HSC), will feature demonstrations and numerous vendors. It is held on the last day of the games before our closing lunch. Registration begins February 1, As a reminder, the closing lunch, bocce and pickleball fill up quickly, so be sure to register early! Many folks collaborate to bring the Games to over 500 participants. They include corporate sponsors, municipal parks and recreation departments, Montgomery County staff, Montgomery County Community College staff, Normandy Farms Estates, PA State Legislators and staff and numerous volunteers. Please be sure to thank them throughout during the week. With the popularity of the Games continuing to grow over the last 34 years, the spirit of the Games is also growing. 3 Welcome! The Montgomery County Senior Games (MCSG) combine sports and recreation with fellowship among everyone involved. As in past years, the MCSG will be held at Montgomery County Community College in Blue Bell as well as several specialized area facilities. Friends and family of competitors are encouraged to come any day as spectators or attend the Seniors Expo held on Friday morning. The mission of the MCSG is to stimulate senior adults in Montgomery County to be active in sports and recreational events in order to maintain physical and mental well-being. The MCSG are not qualifying events for participation in the annual PA Senior Games held each summer. ELIGIBILITY Turning 50 this year? Any individual who will be at least 50 years of age in 2019 may register. AGE GROUPINGS FOR COMPETITION The age group in which you will compete is based on your age as of December 31st of this year: There are seven age categories* for participation: 1) ages ) ages ) ages ) ages ) ages ) ages ) ages 85 & up* *will subdivide 7th age category for certain events based on registration numbers. LUNCHEON & AWARDS PROGRAM The Luncheon & Awards Program will be at Normandy Farms Estates in Blue Bell. Immediately following the close of events on Friday at 11:00 am, a luncheon will be provided to the first 200 participants who have pre-registered and pre-paid. Luncheon tickets may be picked up until 11:00 am at the registration table in the Health Sciences Center. Brief remarks will be followed by the announcement of winners. Those who have not received their medals throughout the week may pick them up at the conclusion of the luncheon. Winners not present at the luncheon may designate someone else to pick up their medals. EVENT CANCELLATION POLICY: The MCSG Committee reserves the right to cancel an event due to inclement weather or insufficient registration. Check website for updates. Notes: Men and Women compete separately in most events. Participants must compete to be eligible for awards. Age categories may be combined for competition. SPORTS ACHIEVEMENT AWARDS Sports Achievement Awards The MCSG Committee will select up to three competitors in the Montgomery County Senior Games to receive recognition at the awards banquet. Recipients will be announced at the Awards Ceremony during the Friday Luncheon. Over one hundred athletes have received this award to date. PARTICIPATION & LUNCHEON FEES Pre-payment is required; see registration form on pg. 11. Cost to compete including lunch on Friday $20.00 per person / $25.00 per person (non-resident) Cost to compete without lunch on Friday $10.00 per person / $15.00 per person (non-resident) T-shirt guaranteed if registered by April 19th All attendees must use the complimentary shuttle bus for the luncheon. 1

4 GENERAL INFORMATION 1. How to Register: Complete BOTH sides of the registration form on pages 11 & 12, calculate fees, and mail in form with your payment, OR register online at 2. Walk-In Registrations: Pre-registration is strongly encouraged; however, walk-in participants may compete only as space permits. Walk-in competitors are not guaranteed participation, t-shirt or lunch reservation. 3. Extra Fees: Participants in Golf, Par 3 Golf, and/or Bowling must pay additional fees at event check-in. See event rules for more information. 4. T-Shirts: Please indicate your t-shirt size on the top of the registration form. If you are registering online, select your t-shirt size from the drop-down menu. If you do not indicate a t-shirt size you will receive the size you requested last year OR a large. To be guaranteed a t-shirt register by April Refunds: Registration and luncheon fees are non-refundable for any reason including, but not limited to, no-shows due to illness, schedule conflicts, or withdrawal from competition on site. 6. 6 EVENT RULES Specific rules will be posted at each event. Rules will not be changed, nor will comments or protests be accepted on the day of the event. SEE SCHEDULE OF EVENTS ON PAGE 3 FOR DATES AND TIMES To the extent possible, the top 4 finishers from the previous year will be seeded in the following events: Singles & Doubles Tennis, Billiards, Darts, Horseshoes, Shuffleboard, Pickleball, Badminton and Table Tennis. ARCHERY NFAA rules will be followed. Bounce outs or pass through shots will be re-shot. Ties will be settled by most high score arrows. 6 arrows will be shot at each distance of 20 and 30 yards. Participants must use the equipment provided. Draw strength of the bows is 20lbs. A mandatory safety briefing, beginning at 11:00am, must be attended in order to participate. BADMINTON (SINGLES) Rules will be explained at time of competition. Check-in begins at 12:45 p.m. BASKETBALL (FOUL SHOT) The winner in each age category is the contestant who makes the most baskets out of 10 attempts from the foul line. A perfect score is 10. Competitors may throw the ball in any style but must use the ball provided. All women and men 80 yrs and older may shoot no closer than 10. BASKETBALL (HOT SHOT) The winner in each age category is the contestant who makes the most baskets out of 7 from each of three Hot Spots. A perfect score is 21. Competitors may throw the ball in any style but must use the ball provided. Each Hot Spot is 2 in diameter and located as follows: (a) at the foul line, 15 from the basket; (b) 10 from the center of the basket to the right and 6 in from the end line; and (c) 10 from the center of the basket to the left and 6 in from the end line. BILLIARDS (POOL) Billiards Congress of America rules will be followed. 8-ball will be played. Cue sticks and balls will be supplied; competitors may bring their own cues. Women will play on smaller tables. The best of 3 games format will be used to determine the winners. In order to compete, a participant must be present when brackets are drawn for their gender and age group. Pre-registration is encouraged. *If the minimum number of participants in an age group is not met, the Event Leader reserves the right to combine age groups. Doors open at 9:00 am. Venue is smoke free and light refreshments will be available for purchase. BOCCE (QUADS) Single elimination tournament. Teams assigned day of event by random draw. Game rules explained on day of competition. Complimentary light refreshments provided to bocce tournament participants. In the event of inclement weather, call (610) after 2:00 pm. Check-in begins at 3:30 pm, must sign in by 3:45 pm to participate. BOWLING Winners will be determined in individual competition only. Contestants will bowl 3 games at a cost of $10.00 per player (rental of bowling shoes is included, if needed). Competitors will pay this additional fee at check-in at the bowling lanes. Check-in begins 30 minutes prior to event start time. CROQUET A 9 wicket format will be used. Players are asked to use the equipment provided by MCSG. To accommodate larger registration numbers a time limit may be imposed at the start of the competition. 7 EVENT RULES DARTS A clock or 20-point face will be used with the throw line at a 7 9 distance and dart board 68 from the floor. A score of 301 points will be used for a 1-player side competition. Official equipment will be available; competitors may bring their own darts. Limit of 30 darts thrown per person or 15 minutes per game. Brackets & times announced at sign in. FOOTBALL THROW The football throw for distance will be measured from the center point of the throwing line to the point of impact; best of two. Regulation football will be supplied. This event is held weather permitting. GOLF Play is rain or shine! An 18-hole tournament will be conducted using the Low Gross scoring system (no handicapping) with winter rules in effect. Greens fees are approx. $30.00 per person with riding cart (required); pay at the course the day of the event, cash only. Check-in and pay 30 minutes before scheduled tee time. Call to select tee-times at (215) x3241 by April 27. When calling please state single or with a group. One golfer may select tee times for all golfers in party. Soft Spikes Required. HORSESHOES The National Horseshoes Pitchers Association of America rules will be official. Singles (metal horseshoe) competition only will be offered. Regulation distances for metal horseshoes will be 40 for men 50 years to 69 years of age and 30 for men 70 years and older and will be 30 for women 50 years to 74 years of age and 20 for women 74 years and older. The official metal shoe shall not exceed 7-1/4 in width, 7-5/8 in length and shall not weigh more than 2 lb. 10 oz. A 24-shoe per player game will be thrown with a single elimination loss. Metal horseshoes will be provided for tournament play; competitors may bring their own equipment as long as it conforms to the dimensions listed above. In the event of inclement weather, call (610) between 11:30 am - 12:30 pm for info on delays & reschedules. MINIATURE GOLF All equipment will be supplied. All course rules listed on the score card will be in effect. Check-in between 9:00-10:00am any day Tuesday through Thursday; tell the supervisor at the Control Building that you are with the Senior Games. Bring a partner... it will be more fun! ORIENTEERING - New Location Navigate on foot using a map to find designated locations in the park. Each location has an electronic punching device that will clock your time. The trails at Lower Perkiomen Park are mostly paved trails. This beginner course is 1.5 miles long. Instructions will be given to participants prior to going on their courses. Medals will be awarded for shortest time to complete the course. Wear comfortable walking shoes. Choose from a 10am or 11am start time. PAR 3 GOLF An 18-hole, Par 3 tournament will be conducted. Participants may bring their own equipment (sleeve of balls, 8 iron, 9 iron, pitching wedge and putter suggested); limited equipment is available at the course. The Low Gross scoring system will be used (no handicapping) and winter rules will be in effect. Greens fees will cost $6.75 per person; Abington residents (I.D. required) will pay $5.75 per person. Competitors will pay this additional fee at the Control Building on the day of play. Check-in between 9:00-10:00 am any day Tuesday through Thursday; tell the supervisor at the Control Building that you are with Senior Games. Bring a partner...it will be more fun! PICKLEBALL (DOUBLES) All levels, including beginners, are welcome. All doubles teams will compete in the age category of the younger partner. You and your partner should register separately but check-in together. Best 2 of 3 match format. In order to keep the tournament on schedule, the first 2 games are to 11 points each or 11 minutes, whichever comes first. In the event of a tie after time expires, sudden death rules will be applied. If a third match is required, a 7 point or 7 minute format will be followed (sides will be switched at 4 points). Tournament staff reserves the right to further shorten games in the event of time constraints. 5

8 EVENT RULES RUNNING The official track will be an all-weather surface. NO SPIKES - please bring appropriate all-weather surface footwear. There will be 4 running events: (1) 100-METER; (2) 400-METER; (3) 800-METER and (4) 1600-METER. Warm-up, running and cool-down periods will be made available. The best times will designate the winners rather than extra heats. In the event of inclement weather, call (215) x3443 between 4-5 pm for information. SHUFFLEBOARD National Shuffleboard Association rules will be followed. The regulation outdoor court size will be used (52 x 6 ) on an indoor surface. Singles competition only will be scheduled. A match will consist of 8 frames. A single elimination type tournament will be used. Shuffleboard equipment will be available; competitors may bring their own cues. Check-in begins at 8:00 am. SOFTBALL THROW The softball throw for distance will be measured from the center point on the throwing line to the point of impact; best of two. A regulation softball will be supplied. This event is held weather permitting. STATIONARY BIKE This event will be conducted on a stationary exercise bicycle; riders will race against a 3-minute time limit. Winners are those who ride the greatest distance to the nearest 0.1 mile. SWIMMING Six swimming events are offered (1) 50 YD. FREESTYLE; (2) 50 YD. BACKSTROKE; (3) 50 YD. BREASTSTROKE (4) 100 YD. MEDLEY (freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, freestyle); (5) 200 YD. FREESTYLE and (6) 400 YD. FREESTYLE. The best times will designate the winners rather than extra heats. Either the elementary or back crawl will be accepted for the backstroke. Locker rooms are available and check-in begins at 2:00 pm. TABLE TENNIS Singles competition only will be available; best of 5 games to 11 points format will be used following International Table Tennis rules. Paddles and balls (2 star balls will be used) will be available; competitors may bring their own paddles, but must use the provided ball. Competitors are not to wear white shirts. Check-in begins at 8:00 am. All competitors must be present by 9:00 am to be guaranteed a slot to compete. TENNIS (Men s Singles & Doubles) Balls provided. Individuals will be notified of assigned match times. Penalties will be assessed to late arrivals for scheduled matches. Individuals should plan to arrive 30 minutes prior to his/her match time. An 8 game pro set format (win by 1) will be used throughout the competition. At deuce, the next point will be played as the sudden victory tie-breaker. All Doubles teams: will compete in the age category of the younger partner. Arrange for your own partner! Partners register separately. In the event of inclement/threatening weather, call for info on delays & reschedules. WALKING A 1.5 mile walk is scheduled. One foot shall be in contact with the ground at all times. Running/ jogging will disqualify an entrant. The course will be on a macadam surface. Proper footwear is encouraged. This event is held weather permitting. 6

15 The purpose of the MCSG Athlete Scholarship is to enable and encourage MCSG participants to attend other, high-level senior athletic events by providing assistance to help decrease the financial burden of attending an event. Criteria: Must be a current resident of Montgomery County. Must have participated in the Montgomery County Senior Games in at least two of the previous three years of the Games. Must be participating in a high level senior or master athletic event. Eligible Expenses: Eligible expenses will include: - Event Registration Fee - Mileage Reimbursement - Lodging Reimbursement The maximum amount an applicant will be reimbursed is $300 per year (365+ days between awards). Eligible expenses will be reimbursed within 30 days of their receipt. Submission Deadline: Montgomery County Senior Games Athlete Scholarship Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis and will be reviewed by the MCSG Scholarship Sub- Committee on a monthly basis. Award Announcement Timeline: Applications will be reviewed and awarded the month following their submission. Applicants will be notified if they are or are not selected.
