This is verified by the various poles in the national magazines. Golf Digest has Bandon Dunes Resort ranked as the top resort in the country. With its four golf courses, new par-3 Bandon Preserve course and the new putting course soon to be opened, there is something for everyone at Bandon Dunes. Pronghorn in Central Oregon is ranked 43rd while Coeur d'alene Resort is 62nd and Sun Valley in Idaho checks in at 67th on the list of top 75 resorts. According to Golf Magazine, Bandon Dunes is one of the few Platnium Award winners among the golf resorts in the country. Also winning awards from Golf Magazine were Coeur d'alene and Sunriver that earned Gold Medal awards from the publication. Golf Magazine also had a list of its top "Green" resorts. Sun Valley is the iconic Idaho mountain resort home to 45 holes of golf among three courses: Trail Creek, White Clouds and Elkhorn. 6 Page 6 NORTHWEST RESORTS April Issue Inside Golf Newspaper No shortage of variety in Oregon resorts From the coast to Central Oregon, plenty of resorts Editor's note: Inside Golf Newspaper has taken a look at all the golf resorts in Oregon and came up with a list of interesting things to look for when you make your visit. Bandon Dunes Resort When Bandon Dunes opened for play in 1999, the course with the scenic views of the Pacific Ocean in Bandon, Ore. was quickly voted among the best in the country. When Pacific Dunes opened in 2001 next to Bandon Dunes, the new course received even higher praise and loftier awards. A third course, Bandon Trails, is up and running along the Oregon Coast and a fourth course called Old Macdonald opened two years ago. Welcome to Bandon Dunes, home of four of the top golf courses in the country, In fact, a fifth course called Bandon Preserve, a 13-hole par-3 course, opened up for play last year. All courses top the lists of every golf publication's best course list. There might not be much to see in and around the Bandon area, but there is the golf and it's enough. And golf in its purest form, with no golf carts allowed, a prevailing wind blowing off the Pacific Ocean and native fescue grasses growing along the fairways. There is more golf on the way at Bandon Dunes. A 18-hole putting course is being developed and constructed at Bandon Dunes as well as another course called Bandon Municipal Golf Links. Salishan Resort Salishan Golf Links offers a remodeled golf course and a terrific place to stay on the Oregon Coast in Gleneden Beach. With its great ocean-side location, Salishan is a place that people keep coming back to for weekend getaways with or without the golf clubs in the car. Salishan has recently undergone a major re-model by Peter Jacobsen plus they added a new spa, to enhance the experience. Eagle Crest Resort There is no shortage of golf at Eagle Crest Resort in Redmond, located just north of Bend in Central Oregon. The resort opened in the 1980s with its resort course and hotel. Since then, there have been some serious upgrades. The hotel is first class, an athletic center has been added and two golf courses have also been put into the mix. The Resort course is a solid public course while the newer Ridge course is a bit more challenging at nearly 7,000 yards. Eagle Crest has also added what it calls a Challenge Course as well as an 18-hole putting course. Brasada Ranch Oregon saw a new golf resort open in the central part of the state in Brasada Eagle Crest Resort in Redmond has two courses to choose from including a putting course and a 9-hole Challenge Course. All 18 holes of the Peter Jacobsen-Jim Hardy were open for play in The resort is a family paradise with lodging, restaurants, bike trails, tennis courts, swimming pools and more. Housing lots are selling quickly, too. Resort at Mountain The Resort at the Mountain is just a drive and wedge away from Mount Hood. In fact, during the spring and summer months, golfing and skiing are both possibilities in the same day. But for just golf, the Resort at the Mountain has it all. With new renovations to the lodge, accommodations and golf course, the Resort at the Mountain is a first-class operation. The facility offers three different sets of nines to try, called Thistle, Foxglove and Pine Cone. Black Butte Ranch Resort One of Central Oregon's best hideaways is Black Butte, located northwest of Bend. Located on nearly 2,000 acres, Black Butte is the perfect place for golfers and their families. Black Butte comes complete with miles of bicycle trails, swimming pools, Black Butte Ranch (top) in Central Oregon and Wildhorse Casino Resort in Pendleton are two resorts to try when visiting Oregon.

10 April Issue Inside Golf Newspaper NORTHWEST RESORTS Page 10 Wildhorse Resort in Pendleton is a treat tennis courts, horseback riding... and, of course, some top notch golf. With two golf courses, Black Butte offers variety. The Glaze Meadow Course is carved out of the trees while the Big Meadow course is routed through a meadow and provides great views of nearby mountains. The resort has also come up with an eight-year plan for some scheduled changes. One of the first major projects at Black Butte was the addition of 74 bunkers at the Big Meadow course. A newly remodeled Glaze Meadow opened for play last summer. The course was shut down for a year while architect John Fought gave the course a new look. One other major change is the addition of a recreation center at Glaze Meadow complete with a new pool, tennis courts, spa and more. Crooked River Ranch Crooked River Ranch offers Central Oregon golf in a stunning setting, just north of Bend. The course might not seem long (5,700 yards) but you need to keep it straight. The par-4 fifth hole is a perfect example. It is a hole which says just 260 yards on the scorecard, but the Crooked River sits to the left and out of bounds marks the right. Crooked River is a popular stop for people with RV's because of the full service amenities, which include tennis, swimming and hiking. Pacific Northwest professional Chuck Milne shot a 59 in a tournament there in the summer of Wildhorse Resort and Casino Many golfers talk about the "game within the game," the mental challenges that make each round so enjoyable. But at the Wildhorse Resort and Casino in Pendleton, they also talk about the games after the game. Because at Wildhorse, you can play 18 holes of golf followed by a round of casino games. Situated in the foothills of the Blue Mountains, Wildhorse's 7,112-yard course is a blend of Scottish Links and traditional American golf. The 18th hole is perhaps one of the top finishing holes in the Northwest, with a lake running along the right side and white sand bunkers guarding the approach. Looking for more, the area is also home to the Pendleton Round-Up, a top attraction as well. Kah-Nee-Ta Resort Kah-Nee-Ta Resort opened in the early 1970s and since then has become a popular place for families, with its indoor and outdoor accommodations, Indian themes and great golf course. Besides, it's hard to beat a place where the sun shines nearly every day and the rain stays away. For travelers, Kah-Nee-Ta offers a first-class hotel, and for those more adventurous, outdoor tee-pees are another way to stay. And the golf is a sun-splashed adventure. Sunriver Resort Sunriver is able to offer its guests a veritable hat trick of golf three golf courses and all are treats. In addition to the lodging, which includes anything from condo-type rooms to rental houses, Sunriver is a golfer's paradise with the public Woodlands and Meadows courses and the private Crosswater course. Crosswater, however, is open to resort guests. A new nine-holer has also opened up near Crosswater called Caldera Springs. Families from up and down the West Coast have targeted Sunriver as a popular destination stop, with its pools, tennis course, bike trails, horseback riding, river rafting and more. Running Y Ranch Resort The Running Y Ranch in Klamath Falls is one of the major contenders on the resort scene and has all the ingredients to keep people coming back climate, scenery, activities, terrific accommodations and amenities for guests, and of course the Arnold Palmer-designed championship golf course. The course, the only Palmer designed course in Oregon, has hosted some of the biggest Northwest professional and amateur events since opening. Crooked River Ranch offers a stunning setting for golf and has plenty of amenities.

11 April Issue Inside Golf Newspaper NORTHWEST RESORTS Page 11 Washington resorts: From west to east there are plenty of choices to try out Editor's note: We wanted to provide a short glimpse into each of the resorts to help familiarize you with them. Here is what we came up with. Apple Tree Resort Apple Tree Resort started with an acclaimed golf course but has since has added overnight lodging in luxury homes. The course provides a variety of challenging holes but the one you will remember after your round is finished is the apple-shaped 17th green. The par-3 hole features an elevated tee box with the tee shot being hit to an island green that is shaped like, what else, an apple. The green itself measures more than 10,000 square feet. Apple Tree has plenty of housing opportunities along and around the golf course for those looking to relocate. Suncadia Resort One of the newest resorts to come on the radar in the state of Washington Apple Tree Resort in Yakima has a course which winds through an apple orchard - and features an apple-shaped green.

The first course built is called Prospector and it opened in The second, the private Tumblecreek opened 2005 and the third, Rope Rider, opened in The resort is part of a large housing community with all of the amenities you'd expect to find a top-notch resort. Also open are a hotel, shopping area and more. With the resort located so close to the Cascade mountains, there are plenty of outdoor options. Snoqualmie Pass skiing area is right up the road. Skamania Resort Since opening in 1993, Skamania Lodge has been the perfect type of weekend getaway for golfers around the Pacific Northwest. Tucked on a bluff overlooking the Columbia River, the Skamania Lodge features a hotel with nearly 200 rooms, a place for businesses to bring in outside conferences and outdoor activities for the non golfers in the group. The course itself may not be long, measuring 5,800 yards, but it presents plenty of challenges with some tight fairways and stunning views of the Columbia River. There are also plenty of other things to do nearby, including visiting Multnomah Falls and a walk to the top. 13 April Issue Inside Golf Newspaper Washington golf resorts: Port Ludlow's timber lined holes; Sage Hill RV resort Semiahmoo Resort Semiahmoo Inn closed in late 2012, which technically makes them no longer a resort since overnight lodging is necessary for that distinction. However, Loomis Trail Golf & Country Club and Semiahmoo Golf Club remain two premier courses that are open to the public. Since the resort was bought by the owners of the Skagit Casino, which is located just south in Bow, Wash., there is lodging available at the Casino hotel. Since both of the golf courses are private clubs there are restrictions for use. Semiahmoo: The "members" course on even days of the month and a "public" course on odd days of the month. Loomis Trail: The "members" course on odd days of the month and a "public" course on even days of the month. The Semiahmoo course is a Arnold Palmer design with plenty of water and sand. Loomis Trail Golf Club features a different setting, offering some links-style holes mixed with some typical Northwest holes. The courses are considered two of the top tracks in the Pacific Northwest. Resort at Port Ludlow The Robert Muir Graves design at Port Ludlow has been ranked as one of the top resort golf courses in the Pacific Northwest. The resort has played host to many PNGA Championships including the 2012 PNGA Womens Amateur and the 2012 Jr. Boys Championship. And for good reason, Port Ludlow seems to have it all. The resort sits on the northern tip of the Olympic Peninsula and offers 18 holes of golf with its Tide and Timber Nines. A tree-trimming project has opened up some terrific views around the course. From the first hole, the Olympic Mountains can now be seen and there are more views along the way. Most people who travel to Port Ludlow Resort usually make a day out of it, playing 18 holes and then settling in for the night at the gorgeous full service inn. which sits on the pristine Ludlow Bay. The resort offers getaway and group rates for 8 or more players. There's also plenty to do beyond golf, including kayaking (for rent at the marina), bike-riding, hiking and checking out the nearby Victorian town of Port Townsend, or just relaxing enjoying the scenic views, delectable cuisine, and first class service. Sage Hills Golf & RV Resort Sage Hills Golf & RV Resort is located 15 miles south of Moses Lake in the heart of the Columbia Basin. The challenging 6,591 yard course was built in the early '60s as a private course. It is open to the public now and has been for more than two decades. Homestead Farms Golf Resort Homestead Farms Golf Resort in Lynden includes amenities like a putting course, condos, exercise room, restaurant and more. And don' forget about the 18th hole, a par-5 with an island green. It's an island green which has received national notice for its beauty and toughness. The hole is reachable in two, but it does take two good pokes to get there, since the hole measures over 500 yards from the back tees. The island green features multiple levels. Homestead Farms is owned by the group which owns Great Links Resorts. Desert Canyon Golf Resort Desert Canyon features one great hole after another. The Central Washington golf resort also features terrific places to stay along the course, a first-class restaurant and a world-class putting course. Desert Canyon is also home to one of the longest holes in the Northwest. The sixth hole is a 691-yard par-5 which features great views of the Columbia River and runs along a canyon. There are also other of memorable views with equally stunning views of the Columbia River. Don Barth, who owns Alta Lake and Rock Island, purchased the resort last year along with Lyn and Rick Anderson. Kahler Glen Golf Resort Kahler Glen Golf and Ski Resort, in Leavenworth, features a challenging golf course and plenty of chances to see Central Washington's forested beauty. There are stay-and-play packages available and plenty of things to do, including hiking, fishing and taking in the sights and sounds of the nearby Bavarian Village of Leavenworth. And the golf is good, too. What makes the course enjoyable is the hilly elevated terrain that you must negotiate throughout the 18 holes. The long 12th hole will make you hit everything in your bag. It is a prodigious 630-yard par-5. Spokane RV Resort Just north of Spokane, sits the town of Deer Park. And the town is home to the terrific Spokane RV Resort. The golf course is first rate as is the RV park which has some very nice amenities and creature comforts. Free wireless, showers, pool, day room, the works. And Woodall's has given the resort five-star rating as well. It is a place that is definitely worth putting on your list of places to visit. Little Creek Resort The Squaxin Island Indian tribe got involved in the resort business with its Little Creek Casino. Then came a hotel. Then a concert hall. And last year, came the award-winning Salish Cliffs Golf Course, designed by Gene Bates. The course gives the Little Creek Resort something special for everyone. For those who like a first-class hotel, you are covered. Good food? Covered again. Need to see a show? The resort has your answer. And now, with the opening of the Salish Cliffs Golf Course, the resort boasts one of the top courses in the Pacific Northwest. In fact, the course was ranked among the top new courses in the country to open for play last year. The course Spokane RV Resort offers a place for RV travelers to stay and play at Deer Park. winds through trees and features plenty of water and sand to keep your attention throughout the round. The driving range is a place that will keep you busy all day as well. 7Cedars Resort The Jamestown S'kallam Indian Tribe, who own The Cedars Casino in Sequim, purchased the Dungeness Golf Club and renamed it The Cedars at Dungeness. The golf course is one of the driest in the Pacific Northwest; being located in the Olympic Rain Shadow provides an extra dry climate for the Sequim area. The casino provides games, entertainment and dining. There is also plenty of sight-seeing to do in the area, located only minutes from Port Townsend and Port Angeles. Clearwater Resort The Suquamish Indian Tribe first got into the resort business with the opening of its Clearwater Casino Resort near Kingston. And more recently, the tribe bought the White Horse Golf Club to give it yet another amenity for the resort. The hotel features 85 waterfront rooms, a spa and plenty of meeting spaces to entice businesses in from out of town. The course is a treat, measuring 7,093 yards from the back tees with views of the Puget Sound and Olympic Mountains. A brand new 22,000 sq. ft. clubhouse offers even more options to the overall golfing experience.
