IFAA Bowhunter Event Information What is to follow is some useful information for those travelling to an EBHC and is relevant to both first time and returning archers. It is not intended to be a definitive guide but it will cover some of the key areas in and around the event itself. 1. EBHC information sites Website: Facebook: IFAA 3D EBHC 2016 Saalbach-Hinterglemm 2. IFAA Classification Card (AKA Score Card) Event organisers will expect each competitor to present their Classification Card at the time of on-site registration for the event. The card does not need to have scores on it to be accepted at Bowhunter Championships. IFAF s Classification Card is only issued to members. Classification scores are gained from shooting an IFAA Field and Hunter rounds. An archer must shoot at least one of each round type, in the same style, and both scores must fall within the same range (A, B or C) for a Classification to be attained. The IFAF calendar will advise of the round type once notified by the host club. Competitions such as UKIFAC, which comprise of one of each round, would give an archer a Classification. 3. Travel Insurance IFAF Ltd. has its own insurance which covers members should there be an incident such as an injury caused to a third party. IFAF Ltd. recommends that everyone travelling abroad to a Bowhunter or other international competition purchase their own personal travel insurance as they would for any other foreign travel. For those competing at the event they must check that their travel insurance covers archery as an activity to give added protection &/or not void their travel insurance by participating in such an activity. You may need to contact an insurance provider directly and request archery as a specific coverage option. 4. On-site Registration for EBHC Registration and Bow-check open 2-3 days ahead of the competition commencing. Times are given on the Event Schedule on the event s website. At registration you will be required to Produce your current Membership Card and Classification Card. collect your registration pack which includes a) Scorecards (x2 per round) and personalised stickers for use on each round (do not stick on your stickers until you know which card/sticker applies to each day of shooting) b) Competitor number. This number must be on your person at all times on the course. It would be advisable to pin it to your quiver or an item of clothing rather than a backpack. c) Other items such as event timetable, course map &/or free event merchandise Page 1 of 6
At bow-check you will be required to a) complete the bow-check form which looks for details such as make and model of bow and the arrows being used, brace height, bow speed (FPS) and other items. If you are shooting multiple styles a separate form is required for each style b) have your equipment including but not limited to bow, arrows, etc examined by a marshal to ensure they meet the IFAA requirements for the style you have entered to shoot under. c) Compound archers will be required to attend speed check to ensure their arrow speed does not exceed the 300 FPS rule. There is no upper limit to the poundage of the bow in IFAA. All arrows must be named and numbered (ringed 1 3 at the top of the arrow). Arrows not numbered and used during the competition will not be scored; that is the rule. All arrows must be of the same type (spine, length, point grains). Different coloured fletches/nocs are allowed but will draw attention as they appear to be different on first glance. 5. Parade of Nations The Parade of Nations is held the day before shooting begins and marks the official opening of EBHC. Members from each nation congregate at a designated meeting point to form a walking parade, grouped by national association, which marches through the streets of host village or town. 6. Practice area The practice grounds have designated opening and closing times, which are strictly adhered to, and are marshalled by EBHC staff. The times are available on the events website and will also be included in your information pack as well as posted locally on notice boards. 7. Competition format The actual competition is run over 5 days, however, you will only shoot on 4 out of the 5 days because one day will be designated as a rest day. Each rest day is assigned to specific styles and you will be made aware of your style s rest day via the information pack you received at registration. The schedule will also be posted locally on notice boards. 8. Rounds There are three types of IFAA Animal Round shot at Bowhunter championships which are shot in a specific order during the competition. On day one and two you will shoot the Unmarked Animal Round (3 arrows), on your third day you will shoot the 3D Standard Round (2 arrows) and on your fourth, and final, day you will shoot the 3D Hunting Round (1 arrow). The following sections give further information on each round o IFAA Unmarked Animal Round (3 Arrows) GROUP 1 GROUP 2 IFAA Unmarked Animal Round (3 Arrows) Shooting Positions/Distances Veteran/Adult Junior Cub Three 5yd walk-up shots with Front marker of Three 5yd walk-up shots first marker set between 60 the Adult distance with first marker set at max. and 40 yards (3 markers) 30 yards (3 markers) Three 3yd walk-up shots with first marker set between 45 and 30 yards (3 markers) Adult distance Single marker Max. 25 yards Page 2 of 6

On the first day people are assigned to a in alphabetical order or by registration number and from Day 2, or Day 3 in some instances, the assignment is based on score. Page 3 of 6
This means that as the competition progresses you will be shooting with and against archers of similar ability within your style. 10. Group order Within each group assigned to a there is a specific role assigned to each member based on which number they are listed. These are as follows: 1 st Target Captain 2 nd Scorer #1 3 rd Scorer #2 4 th Arrow puller 5 th (& greater) Arrow finder(s) 11. Awards/Closing Ceremony At the end of the week, either on the evening of final day of the shoot or the following day, there will be an Awards Ceremony which includes a banquet, the awards presentation and entertainment. Tickets for this event will be available from the administrators during registration and for some time during the competition. 12. Other tips & information There are usually facilities such as food and water stops on the course however it is recommended you do bring some snacks, water, etc. with you as you may be some distance from a stop or reach a refreshment area soon after starting to shoot. Some events do not accept cash so, to avail of any food/chargeable items on course, you will have to have purchased a pre-paid voucher card. Such cards are usually sold during the period when registration is open. Bring sun cream, hat and other essentials (back-packs with seats offer a welcome rest!) with you as there may be times of waiting and you will not stop for a designated break. Short breaks are permissible at rest stops but refreshments are taken on the go as you move around the course. You cannot swap jobs within the Target Group, be prepared to make decisions as the Target Captain, score (including your own card), pull or find arrows. The Target Captains job is to order the shooting in the group and to settle all local questions. They also make the decision on arrow scores and their decision is final except for their own arrow scores whereby the decision shall be made by the first scorer. You should practice scoring, especially if you do not like to score or know your own score as you will be less phased by the task should you be assigned it at EBHC. Scoring is double scoring. The Scorers must keep an accurate account of scores at each, maintaining a running total and compare these at each. If there are any errors in the scores the archer whose scorecard has been corrected must initial their corrected card. Pay attention to the scores being recorded for you, the Team Captain &/or the Scores can make mistakes. Familiarise yourself with the IFAA s Rules. Print out a copy of the rule book if it will help you when you are out on the course. The most up-to-date rule books are available on the IFAA s website Documents - Rules & Documents Do bring enough arrows with you to the competition and do bring enough arrows out on the course to cover lost &/or broken arrows. You cannot hold up the following group in looking for lost arrows should you start to run out. Never touch your arrow whilst in the, if you do your score will be forfeit; that is the rule. Do not pull arrows until the scoring has been completed by both Scorers. Page 4 of 6
Do pick up arrows and, if tracing where they have landed/trying to locate lost arrows, carefully stick them into the ground, point down, to illustrate a) where they were found and b) the line in which they travelled. Shoot your arrows in numerical order. If you shoot out of sequence by mistake advise the Target Captain immediately and do not shoot further arrows until it is understood what has occurred, for example you shot arrow #2 first and hit you may well only be awarded a second-arrow score when scores are recorded. Each has a notice board, take a minute to read the notice board, it will help you. It will contain the following information: a) Target Number b) Group Number in relation to the size of the (Group 1, 2, 3 or 4) c) Picture of the 3D about to be shot (ideally, the should also face the same direction it is depicted in the picture). Double marker lay-out: Animal rounds, marked and unmarked, are shot using Double Marker (i.e. archers shoot in pairs using left and right pegs). You cannot shoot from in front of the marker. One foot shall touch or not be more than six inches behind or to either side of a marker. Shooting is done in rotation, with archers in the group being paired based on their position in the group. Each pair take turns to shoot first based on the shoot sequence. If you are the scorer a handy tip is to mark the scorecard with A, C, E so that you can easily keep track of the order of rotation as illustrated. Rotation Letter First archer in the shooting pair Second archer in the shooting pair A Target Captain (1 st on group list) Scorer One (2 nd on group list) C Scorer Two (3 rd on group list) Arrow Puller (4 th on the group list) E Arrow Finder (5 th on the group list) Other/Finder (6 th on the group list) Page 5 of 6
Alternatively, the continental method of the last to shoot on the previous shoots first on the next one may be used. To keep track of this system, the scorecard of the last person to be scored should be left on top of the pile. Regardless of the paired shooting system you are entitled to shoot a singly if you feel you do not have a clear shot of the or your footing is not sound. Where there is a choice of two s (Group 3 & 4 s) the archer standing on the left will shoot the left and the archer on the right will shoot the right. After 14 s have been shot the side is reversed to avoid advantage or a more favourable side. Juniors shall shoot in their own groups. Cubs shall shoot in their own groups with a non-shooting responsible adult. The non-shooting responsible adult may be one of the scorers for the group. The Day Off rotation may mean that families who shoot do not have the same day off. There is no official provision for supervising children who are on a rest day; parents need to be aware of making alternative arrangements with others not shooting or not shoot themselves.
