4 WELCOME TO DIAR 2017 Dubai International Arabian Races (DIAR), under the patronage of HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, aims to enable more people to enjoy the sport of Arabian horse racing and to help more countries develop the sport internationally, through it's sponsorship and support. To help achieve this, DIAR organises a series of races around the world each year. The bonus scheme is now well established in the DIAR programme: horses that finish first, second or third in any of the 'Preparation Races' will be eligible to compete fo ra bonus at DIAR Newbury on Sunday 30 July Dubai International Arabian Races welcomes you and looks forward to your support and paricipation in 2017! The DIAR 2017 offers a programme of 18 'Preparation Races' to encourage international runners to Dubai International Arabian Races flagship event at Newbury Racecourse on Sunday 30th July This event is one of the best and most prestigious full days of Purebred Arabian racing anywhere in the world. It features five international races, including three Group 1 PA races and a Group 2 PA race. In 2017, DIAR's sponsorship starts with races in Italy in May, then the UK, Sweden, France and the Netherlands. Most significantly, 2017 will see a 13,000 increase in prizz emoney for DIAR Newbury, as well as the renewal of the travel allowances for international runners competing on that day. 4

6 COURSE LAYOUT The track at Newbury consists of a left handed oval of almost 1m and 7 furlongs (3000m), with an additional straight mile course (1600m). It's long wide straights with mild undulations and gentle bends are considered to provide a fair test for racehorses. STABLING Stabling is provided at Newbury racecourse's permanent stable yard from Friday 28 July at 9am. Horses must depart on Monday 31 July by 12 noon. 6

7 OWNERS, TRAINERS & STABLE STAFF On site accommodation is available for stable staff in the hostel by the stables, on a first come, first served basis - for information, or to make a reservation, please contact Gemma Cobb at ARO. Further accommodation for stable staff and connections is available at The Lodge at Newbury Racecourse. Availablity is limited and should also be booked through the ARO Office. The Owners & Trainers facility at Newbury Racecourse will be open on the day with complimentary refreshments available. Best Turned Out Awards: There will be a prize of 300 to the groom of the Best Turned Out horse in each race. 7

8 DUBAI INTERNATIONAL ARABIAN RACES BONUS SCHEME The bonuses on offer for the Dubai International Arabian Races 2017 are as follows: - Shadwell Dubai International Stakes Group 1 PA 3,000 - Shadwell Arabian Stallions Hatta International Stakes Group 1 PA (for fillies and mares) 2,500 In order to win the bonus, a horse must finish in the first three places in a designated 'Preparation Race' and then go on to win one of the bonus races on 30th July at Newbury. Connections of horses winning or placed in a 'Preparation Race' can choose to run in any of the bonus races to compete for the bonus prize money. - Jebel Ali Racecourse Za'abeel International Stakes Group 1 PA 2,000 - International Stakes Group 2 PA (three-year-olds only) 2,000 Please note: - The Premier Handicap Stakes bonus of 500 is for UK domestic horses only 8

10 TRAVEL ALLOWANCES Applications from connections are welcome concerning potential contributions towards the cost of transport for horses travelling from outside mainland UK to compete on DIAR Newbury on July 30. Individual travel allowances of 300 (or Euro equivalent) are available and will be allocated on a first come, first served basis. In order to qualify a horse must: - Be declared to run in an international race at DIAR Newbury on July Start the race they are declared to run in at DIAR Newbury on July Please note: - The travel incentive is open to ALL international runners, not just horses who have previously been placed in the Preparation Races - Travel bursaries will be reimbursed by bank transfer to the trainer AFTER the race fixture on July 30 - Connections must produce a valid veterinary certificate if the horse is withdrawn on the day of the race - Payment of the travel allowance is at the discretion of the DIAR management committee - The amount of money awarded maybe subject to change - Applications for travel allowances OPEN on 14th June 2017 at 12 noon (UK time) - Applications CLOSE on 21st July 2017 at 12 noon (UK time). Applications received after this date will not be accepted Applications must be made in writing to Marion Lachat (mlachat@shadwellstud.co.uk) with the following information: NAME OF THE HORSE entered and full contact details of the trainer of each horse. Successful applicants will be notifed by AFTER final declarations on 26th July

There are no post-arrival quarantine requirements for horses coming to race in Britain. 11

12 MEDICATION & DOPING CONTROL/ VACCINATION REQUIREMENTS The Arabian Racing Organisation (ARO) operates with the support and permission of the British Horseracing Authority (BHA), the governing and regulatory body of British Horseracing in Great Britain. 13 Please note the vaccination laws of the UK as below. Failure to comply will result in the horse s entry being declared void. 24A. No horse shall be admitted to any racecourse when a meeting held under these Regulations takes place unless accompanied by its Passport giving a complete and up to date vaccination record signed by a Veterinary Surgeon, who is unrelated to and independent of the Owner of the horse, the Trainer of the horse and any Person who is employed by the Trainer. Such a document must show in both cases that it has received two primary vaccinations against Equine Influenza, which has been given no less than 21 days apart and no more than 92 days apart. (i) A horse has received a first booster vaccination given no less than 150 days and no more than 215 days after the second component of the primary vaccination, and (ii) A horse has received booster vaccinations at intervals of not more than a year apart or such lesser time as the BHA may, in an emergency, decide, and that none of these vaccinations has been given within the seven days previous to the race in which the horse is declared to run. Bio-Security Protocol may be in place, trainers and staff must follow instructions provided by the Racecourse. In addition, where sufficient time has elapsed subsequent to the primary vaccinations the vaccination section of the Passport must be completed to show that: 13

14 EQUIPMENT All equipment must be named at the time of declaration to run. Permissible equipment: Hood - similar to blinkers, covering the ears, but without eye cowls. Blinkers - a garment fitted over a horse's head with holes for eyes and ears, one or both eyeholes being fitted with cowls to restrict vision to the rear but permitting full forward vision. Visor - similar to blinkers in which one or both cowls have holes cut in them, permitting limited vision to the rear. Cheekpieces - two strips of sheepskin or similar material or device attached to the cheekpieces of the bridle. Tongue Strap - device used to hold down a horse's tongue. Lip chains must be covered and nasal strips are not permitted. Any horse wearing non-declared equipment on the way to the start will be withdrawn at the start by the starter. Horses must be shod all round, unless special dispensation has been granted by the BHA. Eyeshield - similar to blinkers except the eyeholes are covered with mesh or other tranparent material. 14
