12 GOURMET DINNER FEASTS IN THE 2010 DELTA DOWNS JACKPOT The $1,000,000 Delta Downs Jackpot was renewed for the eighth time on November 20, The nation's richest grade III race for 2-year-olds attracted a full field of 10 talented horses that made the trip to Vinton, Louisiana from tracks across North America, ranging from Woodbine in Toronto, Canada to Santa Anita in Southern California. Fans turned out in droves to witness an exhilarating program, as Our Sugar Bear Stables' Gourmet Dinner stormed down the homestretch under jockey Sebastian Madrid to claim the $600,000 first-place prize. The Florida-bred son of Trippi also recorded the largest margin of victory in Delta Downs Jackpot history by defeating eventual Kentucky Derby starter Decisive Moment by 2-1/4 lengths. California invader Clubhouse Ride finished another 3-3/4 lengths behind in third. The results of last year's Delta Downs Jackpot made longshot horseplayers very happy, and quite a bit richer. The top three finishers all went off at double-digit odds with Gourmet Dinner returning a Delta Downs Jackpot record $42 to win. The place and show prices of 45-1 bomb Decisive Moment were also records of $34.40 and $17.20 respectively. Exotic players were treated to record payoffs of $ for the Exacta; $ for the Quinella; $9, for the Trifecta; and a whopping $28, for a winning $2 Superfecta ticket, that was completed by 3-1 second favorite Sweet Ducky who wound up fourth. Not only did payoffs in the Delta Downs Jackpot set new records, the handle on the entire program also produced new highs for the racetrack. A total of $3,817,849 was wagered on the card, which eclipsed the old mark of $3,172,578 set during the 2008 Delta Downs Jackpot program. The Delta Downs Jackpot race was responsible for $1,108,555 of the 2010 amount. It was the first time in Delta Downs history that a single race produced a seven-figure handle. Last year's Delta Downs Jackpot program featured eight stakes races in all. The undercard was highlighted by the $500,000 Delta Downs Princess (Gr. III), which was won by Right Time Racing, LLC's Bouquet Booth with jockey Shaun Bridgmohan in the saddle. Bouquet Booth would go on to win the Silverbulletday Stakes at Fair Grounds before a fifth-place effort in the Kentucky Oaks (Gr. I) at Churchill Downs. There was another interesting side note to last year's Delta Downs Jackpot program as Z Humor became the first Delta Downs Jackpot champion to return to Vinton, Louisiana and win a stakes race. The son of Distorted Humor took the $125,000 Delta Mile by four lengths under jockey Gerard Melancon. Z Humor finished in a dead heat for the win with Turf War in the 2007 edition of the Delta Downs Jackpot. 12

13 This year's Delta Downs Jackpot program will take place on Saturday, November 19, Continuing a new tradition of daytime racing on Delta Downs Jackpot Day that started last year, the season's richest and most important program will begin at 1:15 p.m. (CST). The 2010 Delta Downs Jackpot was the first ever contest with natural light as the record-setting program began at 1 p.m. under glorious blue skies. The 11-race program produced a track record handle of $3,817,

14 2002: Outta Here The favorite Outta Here was victorious in the inaugural Delta Downs Jackpot that took place on December 21, It was Racing Hall of Fame jockey and Louisiana native Kent Desormeaux in the saddle. The first edition of the race was contested at one mile and carried a purse of $500, : Mr. Jester The 2003 Delta Downs Jackpot marked the first race in track history to carry a purse of $1,000,000 and the distance was changed to 1-1/16 miles. When the finish line was reached, it was 14-1 longshot Mr. Jester who proved best with jockey Roman Chapa in the saddle. The Jackpot program produced a track record handle at the time of $2,477, : Texcess California invader Texcess won the 2004 Delta Downs Jackpot with Kentucky Derby winning jockey Victor Espinoza in the saddle. Although he won the race by 1-1/2 lengths, which was a record at the time, Texcess ran the slowest winning time in Jackpot history of 1:48.20 for 1-1/16 miles. *The 2005 Delta Downs Jackpot was cancelled, along with the entire racing season, due to Hurricane Rita. 14

15 : Birdbirdistheword 2007: Z Humor, Turf War (DH) Birdbirdistheword rallied from over 10 lengths behind to snatch victory in the 2006 Delta Downs Jackpot under jockey Robby Albarado, a Louisiana native. The race proved historic as it marked the first graded stakes event ever contested at Delta Downs. The race has carried grade III status ever since. The 2007 Delta Downs Jackpot was so competitive that it ended in a dead heat between Z Humor (yellow cap) and Turf War (teal cap). Z Humor was ridden by multiple Eclipse Awarded winning jockey Garrett Gomez, while Turf War was piloted by threetime Kentucky Derby winner and Louisiana native Calvin Borel. 2008: Big Drama Eventual Breeders' Cup Sprint winner Big Drama got the win in the 2008 Delta Downs Jackpot with jockey Eibar Coa in the saddle. Big Drama's speed carried the entire 1-1/16 miles in 2008 as he recorded the fastest final time ever in the history of the race, 1: : Rule A mixture of cold rain and snow forced the only off-track running of the Delta Downs Jackpot in 2009 when Rule came home in front under eventual Kentucky Derby winning jockey John Velasquez. The race also marked the first time a less-than-full field of 10 took part in the race, as only eight horses left the starting gate.
