III) entered its second decade last year and after the 11th running of the race was made official there several new records set in the track s signature race and for the entire program. The 2013 edition of the Jackpot was won by Paul and Andrena Van Doren s Rise Up with jockey Gerard Melancon in the saddle. The Tom Amoss trainee carried Melancon to his second victory in the event making him the only rider to win the race multiple times. Melancon s other score came in 2011 with Sabercat. Rise Up also broke two records in last year s Jackpot. The final running time of 1:44.71 for 1-1/16 miles eclipsed Big Drama s stakes record time of 1:44.72 set in Big Drama would eventually win the Breeders Cup Sprint (Gr. I) in Rise Up s second record came by way of winning margin, as he hit the finish line six lengths in front of Casiguapo who took the place spot. The winning margin was the largest in Jackpot history, beating the four-length spread posted by Sabercat over Basmati three years ago. The $1,000,000 Delta Downs Jackpot program has grown exponentially in recent years and in 2013 it took another leap forward in terms of handle. Sunbean is owned by Brittlyn Stables, Inc., who also campaigned the richest Louisiana-bred of all time, Star Guitar.
